Chapter 61 – I Flirt in Balance Sheets
He reached for the box. Took one earring gently between his fingers. No rush. No smugness. Just slow, graceful precision like he’d done this before—like dressing someone up was part of his demonic charm arsenal.
She tilted her head slightly, exposing her neck.
The moment his fingers brushed her skin, she almost jumped.
Almost.
Warm.
Callused from something—fighting, maybe—but still careful.
He moved her hair aside. She swore he breathed near her temple. And if he did? It was so light she could barely tell.
Then—click.
First earring in place.
"Perfect fit," he murmured.
Her breath caught.
And then—he reached for the second.
His hand brushed the side of her face this time. Thumb trailing lightly just below her ear as he found the lobe. His knuckles grazed her cheek. Her skin tingled.
She could hear her heart.
Could feel her damn tentacles twitching in her core like they were seconds from making this entire situation very awkward again.
Focus. Focus.
He clicked the second one in.
And paused.
Not moving away just yet.
Not until she turned to face him.
He looked at her.
Really looked.
"You’re beautiful," he said. No grin. No playful tilt. Just the truth.
The kind of truth that made her forget how to speak.
Rava blinked rapidly. Her face flared red, and she knew it was obvious. She reached for the bouquet just to do something with her hands, nearly knocking it off her lap in the process.
She cleared her throat. "How do they look?"
Lux didn’t even blink.
"Like I made a smart investment," he said. "Aesthetic returns are already high."
She huffed out a laugh despite herself. "That’s a terrible pickup line."
"It’s not a line," he said. "I’m a CFO. I flirt in balance sheets."
She shook her head. But the corners of her mouth twitched.
"You know," she muttered, brushing her fingers along the new earrings, "most guys get nervous around me."
"I’m not most guys."
"Clearly."
There was a pause.
Not heavy. Just... quiet.
Then she said, more softly, "Thank you. For the flowers. And the earrings."
Lux nodded. "You’re welcome."
The words were simple. But they landed deep—like the kind of ’you’re welcome’ that meant don’t forget this moment.
Like it mattered.
Like she mattered.
Outside, the city shifted again. Glass buildings gave way to sleek metal showrooms, big tinted windows like car-sized jewelry displays, polished floors gleaming like obsidian. The kind of place you didn’t walk into unless you already knew the price tag wouldn’t scare you.
And of course, it didn’t scare Lux.
The car pulled into the drop-off lane, and the second the door opened, staff were already moving—like they’d smelled platinum rolling in.
Lux stepped out first. Casual. Controlled. Not rushing, but not wasting time either.
Rava followed, heels tapping softly on the clean pavement. She didn’t usually care about car shops. Too much chrome. Too much fake excitement. Guys spending hours acting like choosing a model was the same as proposing to a wife.
But Lux?
He walked inside like he was flipping through a catalog he’d already memorized.
"Welcome to Lucerno Motors," a sharply dressed woman said, bowing just slightly. "Are you here for consultation or browsing?"
"Purchase," Lux said without blinking. "Two units. One car, one motorcycle."
She blinked. "O-Of course. Any preferences—"
"Sedan," he said. "Something that doesn’t scream for attention but shuts everyone up once they notice it. Hybrid engine. Matte finish. Comfort over flash. Or both."
She nodded rapidly and turned. "Right this way, sir."
Rava watched from behind.
He didn’t hesitate. Didn’t ask for recommendations like most people.
Didn’t fake interest to be polite.
He just knew.
Five minutes in, and Lux already had his palm resting lightly on the roof of a black Aurion Crown Phantom—a clean, sharp-lined car with soft leather seats, a quiet engine, and a ridiculous number of hidden features.
"This one," Lux said.
The woman blinked again. "You’re sure?"
He just gave her a look.
Paperwork was drawn up instantly.
Carson mansion’s name appeared when they asked for the delivery address.
Lux didn’t flinch at all.
He just scrawled his signature like the mansion already belonged to him. Since yeah, it did belong to him.
Delivery scheduled: One week from now.
Then they moved to the bikes.
Another floor. Another staff member.
This one, a guy with gloves on and a clipboard that screamed car nerd energy.
Lux didn’t even let him finish his welcome.
"I need something fast. Loud. Elegant. Black. Needs to look like I stole it from a future assassin."
The guy blinked.
Rava smirked behind her hand.
Ten minutes later?
He was placing an order for a Vayder Ascent Nero—an obsidian-toned beast with thin neon blue underglow, a high-pitched engine scream, and a body so sharp it looked like it could slice a parking lot in half.
It would be delivered by noon tomorrow.
To his suite at the Sovereign Grand.
Because of course it would.
And the whole time?
Lux barely said anything extra.
He didn’t need to.
He moved like he’d already seen this day happen. Like he was just following the mental checklist he’d created while sipping overpriced coffee in Hell.
Rava kept watching.
And somewhere between the car selection and the fifth signature, she realized—
She liked this about him.
The efficiency.
The decisiveness.
He wasn’t reckless. Wasn’t slow either. He just knew what he wanted, and he took it. Without pretending. Without games.
Gods. That was rare.
And kind of hot.
When they finally walked out of the last showroom, she glanced at him and said, "You shop like a CEO making a hostile takeover."
Lux shrugged. "Because that’s what I do."
"You didn’t even compare models."
"I don’t need six versions of the same thing. If it clicks, I move."
She raised an eyebrow. "That doesn’t sound very romantic."
"Buying a bike isn’t romance," he said, then paused—his eyes flicking toward her.
"But buying you earrings?"
He smirked.
"That’s different."
Rava rolled her eyes.
But yeah. Her face was warm again.
