Chapter 61 - 61 61 Care
61: Chapter 61 Care 61: Chapter 61 Care “Fanzi, go get paper and pen!” Zhou Wenhui commanded.
Yang Fan always carried paper and pen with him.
They say a poor memory is better cured by a worn pen, and sometimes he needed it to jot things down.
Upon hearing the request, he immediately took out the paper and pen and laid them in front of Shen Lin.
“You know how it should be written, don’t you?
Write!” Zhou Wenhui pressed a beer bottle against Shen Lin’s forehead and said coldly, “Write anything off-topic, and you can say goodbye to your head today.”
Perhaps sensing Yang Fan and Zhou Wenhui’s desperate ferocity, Shen Lin didn’t hesitate this time.
He immediately used his unharmed right hand to write down an admission of misusing his public position for personal gain, promising to make restitution, and also penned an IOU.
“What’s this IOU supposed to mean?” Yang Fan asked coldly.
“I…
I don’t have that much money right now, at most, I can scrape together ten thousand,” Shen Lin said with a mournful face.
“Didn’t you say you had several ten thousands in the bank?
You can’t come up with this amount?” Yang Fan asked angrily.
With a crestfallen face, Shen Lin said, “I was just bragging, I actually don’t have any money…”
“That’s quite a scary bluff,” Yang Fan said coldly and mockingly, “But this, I do not accept!”
As he spoke, the beer bottle in his hand smashed heavily onto Shen Lin’s knee.
With a dull thud, Shen Lin let out a howl of pain, and his face instantly turned a dramatic shade of red.
Since things had already escalated to this point today, Yang Fan no longer cared about future repercussions.
He had been holding this grudge for a very long time and now just wanted to vent his anger before considering anything else.
Even if he didn’t get the compensation back, it didn’t matter.
When Shen Lin did all those things, he had policy backing him up, always managing to twist things around under the guise of legitimacy.
That was not the issue here.
Yang Fan again took a brand new unopened beer from the cooler, his aura radiating murderous intent as he blocked Shen Lin’s path.
“Wait, wait, I can come up with twenty thousand…” Shen Lin shouted hastily.
“Or, perhaps you might want to reconsider?” Yang Fan raised the beer bottle to Shen Lin’s forehead, asking icily.
Although Shen Lin was not so wealthy that he could disregard a hundred thousand as if it were nothing, twenty or thirty thousand wasn’t an issue for him.
Over the years, leveraging his connections, he had never been short of snatching a little something from the common folk.
“Give, give, I’ll give it!
I’ll give all of it!” Seeing that Yang Fan was about to strike again, Shen Lin yelled frantically.
He tremblingly took out the money, and transferred a neat fifty thousand yuan to Yang Fan’s phone.
No sooner had the matter been settled than, while Zhou Wenhui was forcing Shen Lin to clean the yard, two police officers suddenly walked in.
“I’ve heard that Director Shen is at your place, is that correct?” one of the plump officers asked politely.
Shen Lin, his face a mess from the beating, saw hope and immediately lit up.
He called out urgently, stumbling over himself as he rushed out, “That’s me, that’s me, officer, you’ve got to stand up for me!
They’ve detained me illegally, extorted money by force!
They took fifty thousand from me, fifty thousand, and beat me up.
Look at this injury on my head, they nearly killed me.”
The two officers looked somewhat surprised as they glanced over Shen Lin, but they didn’t say anything.
The plump officer turned to Yang Fan and Zhou Wenhui and asked, “Did you guys hit him?”
Yang Fan and Zhou Wenhui shook their heads in unison.
“Absolutely not, the money was compensation he gave us.
As for the injuries, he got those from falling over when he was drunk earlier, which has nothing to do with us,” Yang Fan stated emphatically.
“Why would we beat someone for no reason?”
“A bunch of shameless rogues, the lot of you!
You think by just saying that you can smooth everything over?
You all just wait, this rundown house will bear the name Shen sooner or later, and you will spit out what you’ve eaten from me!
And you, you harlot, I will have my way with you eventually, damn you all, hitting me, I am Shen Lin!” Shen Lin ranted furiously, his face contorting as if he could eat someone alive.
“Shen Lin, it doesn’t seem quite appropriate for you to speak like this in front of us, does it?
Behave yourself!” the plump officer suddenly barked, grabbing Shen Lin’s arm, “You’ve caused enough trouble, come with us.”
“Hey, no, why are you arresting me?
You’ve got it all wrong!” Shen Lin was startled and began to protest desperately.
He didn’t expect that these two weren’t here to help him, but rather to deal with him.
“We don’t make mistakes in identifying people, it’s you we’re looking for!” the chubby officer pushed Shen Lin and said in a deep voice.
The two men flanked Shen Lin, one on either side, and without further ado, they left Yang Fan’s house.
“Fanzi, what’s…
what’s going on?” Zhou Wenhui asked with some surprise.
The situation had taken her off guard.
“Reap what you sow, the trouble’s come!” Yang Fan shrugged his shoulders and said calmly, “Let’s go outside and have a look.”
As expected, it must have been someone Zhang Yulan found who had already taken care of the matter.
Otherwise, it couldn’t be such a coincidence.
No sooner had the two of them left the second courtyard than the chubby policeman came in with a folder in his hands.
He glanced at Yang Fan and asked, “You’re Yang Fan, right?”
Yang Fan, somewhat puzzled, simply nodded.
“What damages did Shen Lin compensate you for, and how much money did he pay?
Give me an overview,” the chubby officer asked.
Yang Fan didn’t hide anything, telling it all as it was.
The courtyard wall that Shen Lin had torn down on the grounds of exceeding the building allowance, along with the old tea tree he’d chopped down, the damaged medicinal herbs, and so on—Yang Fan accounted for each and every item clearly.
Demanding fifty thousand yuan for these losses wasn’t excessive.
The chubby officer took notes, then nodded and said, “All right, since you’ve settled it privately, we won’t intervene too much.
Compensation of fifty thousand is reasonable, so it’s settled.
Go on with your work.”
Yang Fan was somewhat confused, as he had actually been prepared to face some consequences.
After all, assaulting someone and forcing Shen Lin to compensate was in no way legal.
But was that really the end of it?
The two officers had come quickly and left just as fast.
By the time Yang Fan and Zhou Wenhui stepped out the door, they had already driven away.
“Fanzi, are we really in the clear?
We just take the money and that’s it?” Zhou Wenhui asked incredulously.
Yang Fan nodded somewhat blankly, “It seems so, wait a minute let me ask around.”
He felt that Zhang Yulan must have specifically instructed something, as this clearly seemed to be a favor toward him.
Otherwise, the repercussions definitely wouldn’t have been so simple.
He immediately called Zhang Yulan and expressed his doubts.
Zhang Yulan seemed to be taking a nap, her voice sounding lazy and mushy, as if she hadn’t woken up fully, “Ah, that, I did mention something briefly.
Did he compensate you for your losses?”
“Things are a bit coincidental.
I just gave that old bastard Shen Lin a good beating, forcibly making him compensate for my previous losses.
I was ready to face the music, hoping to teach Shen Lin a lesson once and for all, but right then, two police officers rushed in,” Yang Fan said.
“Are you all right?” Before Yang Fan could finish speaking, Zhang Yulan asked anxiously.
“I’m fine.
That’s what I wanted to ask you about,” Yang Fan said.
“I just told them to make sure your compensation was dealt with.
I didn’t say much else,” Zhang Yulan said, “Don’t worry about it.
As long as you’re okay, that’s what matters.
A fight’s just a fight, it’s not a big deal.”
“In the future, if you ever need help, remember to come to me.
See, didn’t I handle this matter neatly for you?”
“Neatly done, I’ll be sure to thank Sister Zhang properly in the future!” Yang Fan said with deliberate emphasis.
Zhang Yulan laughed coquettishly, playfully chided, “You little rascal, thanking me to death.
You’re making me blush.”
