Chapter 8: Mr. And Mrs. Ackerman
"What?!" Trent shot off the bed
"Are you gonna help me or what?"
"That’s— I didn’t expect you to say something like that" he cleared his throat.
"What about your Dad?"
"He’s got another daughter... And I can give up on his support" she answered.
"This is the solution I came up with— we get married, I blow it up in the media exposing myself as his daughter,"
"and he’ll have to deny me when interviewed since I’ve been hidden"
Isn’t this a reckless decision?
"I’ll just have to let go of some things" she muttered.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Trent asked
This was more of a question to himself than her. Does he want to do this?
"Yeah... I’ll have to struggle for a while but it’ll work out"
"See you in the city council by 9" she added, hanging up.
What just happened? Trent scratched his head. Getting married all of a sudden?
Well, it would just be a formality and fake one, but still—
He walked into the bathroom to wash himself up.
________
He didn’t have time to look at his trading account while he prepared. Thoughts filled his mind as he wore the suit he’d gotten.
By the time he was ready, it was 8:23.
He looked at the mirror, making sure he was totally ready and walked out.
He knocked at Theo’s door.
A bit different from last time— was he asleep?
Theo opened the door slowly, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Good morning, Trent"
"Looking sharp, what’s the occasion?"
"I have a wedding" Trent muttered.
"A friend’s? You look like the groom" he chuckled.
"That’s because I am" Trent replied flatly.
Theo stared at him for a moment, the sleep seemed to vanish immediately.
"You’re getting married?"
Trent nodded his head continuously.
"Con-Congratulations, Man"
"You should’ve told me sooner"
"Yeah... I just got notified too" Trent exhaled
"I wanted to ask if you could come along to the City hall"
"Yeah.. sure. I have a suit I bought for interviews. It’s well ironed" Theo flung the door open.
He rushed back inside, Trent following behind.
He took a quick bath and dressed up in his suit.
"I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s a great thing, yeah?" He asked as he came out.
"Yeah..." Trent replied slowly, "I hope so" he mumbled.
They stepped out and Theo drove the car.
___________
They sighted Marie as they pulled over
"Damn, is that your bride?"
"She looks beautiful, Man. You’re lucky" Theo joked.
Trent laughed softly as he stepped out, "I really hope so"
Gina was standing beside Marie, she walked towards Trent.
"I’d said it as a joke. Who knew you lovebirds were already planning?" She tugged him slightly.
"Congratulations, Trent"
"Thank you, Gina. This is my friend, Theo" Trent responded, shifting Theo forward.
He walked to Marie, "Guess we’re really doing this, huh?" He whispered.
She pulled him closer, "Why’d you think I brought so many people, huh?"
She pointed at some ladies, dressed the same.
"Isn’t she your waiter?" Trent pointed at one of them.
"Yeah. Shows how serious this is... So, smile"
"The reporters would be here soon"
They walked into the city council, Gina and Theo following along. They seemed to be having a great conversation.
Mr. Fern was at the desk to welcome them.
"I was surprised when she called.." he said to Trent.
"Isn’t this a bit too fast?"
"Fast? They’ve known each other for almost four months, it’s normal, no?" Gina cut in.
Marie winked at Mr. Fern, coughing.
"Pardon this old Man" He laughed.
"Shall we make you Mr. and Mrs. already?" He chuckled, leading them to the marriage registry office.
Marie adjusted the hem of her dress with shaky fingers before stepping into the registry office.
They registered their marriage and took intimate pictures with the certificate.
As they walked out of the city hall, reporters ran up to them.
"Is it true that you’re Morlov Sanchez’s daughter?"
"Is your father in support of this marriage?"
"Who is the Man you’re getting married to?"
They asked numerous questions. Theo blocked them away as the camera men pressed forward.
"I’m Trent Ackerman and I’ve been honored to Marry such a beautiful woman today" Trent spoke into one of the microphones.
He felt nervous, but strangely he could do this.
"Today is such a lovely day for us. We appreciate your interests but we hope you give us space to enjoy it" he laughed.
Marie smiled, pulling Trent in and throwing the flower Gina prepared to the Bridesmaid.
"Thank you all for coming" she smiled as they walked off.
Her phone rang as they walked towards the car.
"You’ve really crossed the line" her father said furiously as she answered.
She lowered the volume and listened silently, smiling at the reporters.
"I’ll take all that I’ve given to you. Every bit" he cut the call.
"Thanks, Dad" she said loudly as he cut the call.
The reporters were in a frenzy. They wanted to know what just happened.
They got into the SUV she’d prepared.
"What was that?" Trent asked.
"That old fucker said he’s taking my properties"
"I guess I’ve been officially disowned" she laughed, heartbroken.
"Don’t worry about it"
"We’ll figure it out, one step at a time." Trent reassured.
"You’re Mrs. Ackerman now, I should step up as a Husband" he chuckled.
"Good thing I booked a hotel for this. I was thinking of using the eatery" she muttered.
His phone rang as the car moved.
"Mikhail" he answered
"What’s up?"
"You’re trending" Mikhail answered, laughing.
"I’ve got such a big customer. Congratulations"
"Thank you" he turned to Marie to ask the name of the hotel she’d booked.
"Sheraton Hotel. Please be there"
"It’s a bit tight, but I will. Congratulations again, Man" Mikhail replied, hanging up.
Trent looked at his trading account.
He’d used $100k on Selene Corp and he was already up +1213%, over $1.2 million.
This wasn’t the time to be excited. He cut the order and his balance now read, $2.3million.
He placed an order on Fordow, using a million dollars this time. Was it the rush of the wedding that got to his head?
No. If he was going to hit the media, he should do it with a bang.
They drove to the hotel for the reception. It was a great time with the small amount of people. The reporters weren’t allowed in so it was peaceful.
They decided to spend the night in the hotel because of the reporters blocking the gates and booked a room.
_____________
"I came here because I thought it interesting" Morlov spoke as he entered the room.
Trent adjusted his seat. He’d snuck out of the room while Marie slept and called Morlov.
"I’m grateful you could make it" he stood up.
"Spare me the little talks and get to the point"
Trent cleared his throat and looked at him in silence for a second.
"The eatery and all her properties. I would like them back"
"I’m afraid you don’t have the right. I seem to have wasted my time" Morlov answered, turning to leave.
"I called a friend in City council and ran an estimate"
"1 million dollars... That should be enough for everything"
Morlov turned back to him and walked forward.
"I’d heard about your genius in stocks. Seems to be true" he dragged the chair forward and sat.
"But.. Boy, do you think I won’t make a profit or are you just naive?"
"2 million dollars" he said as he took the glass of champagne.
"2 million and I’ll let her be. You should consider half a million as the Bride’s price and the other half as my gain" he laughed.
As expected, he’s scum. On his way here he’d looked at the trading account and he couldn’t even believe what he saw.
+7895. That’s where the trade ended when the market closed.
$78.95 million in profit.
He now had over $80 million in his trading account.
"If you promise not to give her any issues again, it’s a deal" he replied.
"Such a fine Son-in-law" Morlov laughed, signaling the person behind him for the papers.
"When do I get the money? I don’t do business on credit"
"Give me the account and I’ll do it immediately"
The man behind scribbled the account down and Trent transferred the money. He looked through the papers and they signed a deal.
Trent had told Mr. Fern the situation during the reception and had him arrange a lawyer to make a contract.
"Congratulations on your wedding. She’s a strong woman" Morlov said as he walked off.
______________
"Where were you last night?" She asked watching him stretch with a groan.
They’d agreed that he slept on the couch while she got the bed.
"I went—"
A call interrupted before he could complete the statement.
"Hello" she picked up her phone.
"Ugh... Spare me. We’ll talk about it when we get there"
"Yeah. He’s here" she turned the phone speaker on.
"Mister Twerp... the latest groom in town" Anton shouted, laughing.
"Good morning, Chief" Trent mumbled.
"The groom doesn’t seem excited enough. What did you do, wildling?"
"I’m sorry to ruin your little honeymoon but the Summit is by 12 and there’s been chaos for hours" His voice switched from playful to serious.
"What happened?" Marie asked
"One of our Handlers in the Kraven Empire was found dead last night"
"You guys should be here in the next hour. It’s urgent"
