Chapter 91: SKIP A BEAT

KI GAYOON failed to go home early like he wanted.

After all, his meeting with his fellow Top 5 Espers that afternoon took longer than expected.

Then he had to return to his office to gather his men.

To be precise, the elite members of his team.

Only Baekho and the Gu Twins were there at the moment, though. The others were still dispatched to different places.

"That’s the situation," Gayoon said after telling the three about the serial killer. "Gu Inkyu, from now on, don’t go out alone. Always bring either Gu Inwoo or Baekho with you. You’re an A-Class Guide, and you’re just as famous as the Top 5 Espers’ Guides, so you might be a target, too."

Gu Inkyu, their team’s A-Class Guide, nodded with a solemn look on his face. "But, Boss..."

"Yes?"

"I received a letter and an email from the National Guide Bureau," Gu Inkyu said hesitantly. "Apparently, now that you’re a part of the Top 5 again, the Bureau wants me back."

Ah, right.

All Guides in the country were required to work at the National Guide Bureau.

Because no Esper or guild is allowed to monopolize a Guide.

The government only allowed Gu Inkyu to "take a vacation" (aka become Gayoon’s temporary Guide) because of Gayoon’s rampant "snapping" before.

But now that I have an Exclusive Guide, I don’t have a reason to keep Gu Inkyu here.

"I’ll talk to Chief Kim Munhee later and tell her I’ll send you back once we catch the serial killer," Gayoon said while crossing his arms over his chest. "You’re a valuable A-Class Guide, so I’m sure the chief will extend your "vacation" until the threat is gone."

Gu Inkyu nodded politely. "Thank you, Boss."

"Ah, right," Gayoon said, looking at Baekho and Gu Inwoo. "In case you encounter the serial killer, don’t kill them— bring them to me."

Baekho and Gu Inwoo answered at the same time. "Yes, Boss!"

"Meeting adjourned."

Finally.

A few moments later, Gayoon was already in the backseat of the car that Baekho was driving.

The first thing he did was check the message that he received from Moon Noa.

He only checked because the sly fox mentioned Noh Yuno.

<"We drove Yuyu to your house safely, Yoonyoon~">

Gayoon already knew that Haru and Moon Noa would drive Noh Yuno home because his Exclusive Guide sent him a message earlier.

"Boss?"

"Yeah?"

"I forgot to mention earlier that Esper Yang Youngjae-ssi sent me a message earlier," Baekho said. "He said you blocked his number, so he just told me to show you his message. Esper Yang Youngjae-ssi also has a message for Guide Noh Yuno-ssi. Should I send it forward?"

Yang Youngjae was the Esper that Gayoon beat to reclaim his spot in the Top 5.

He really didn’t care, but he wanted to know what that bastard wanted to say to Noh Yuno.

"Alright, send it forward."

Baekho quickly pulled out his phone when the car stopped because of the traffic lights.

The first message that Gayoon received was a photo of Yang Youngjae flexing his arms in front of a mirror.

Argh, my eyes.

The bastard seemed to be in a gym, based on the background in the photo.

<"Gayoon Hyung-nim, I followed your advice! I went back to basic training, so I’ve started working out to build more muscles and improve my stamina. Thank you for giving me a reality check during our match.">

"I did no such thing."

And why does this bastard keep calling me ’hyung-nim’ when we were born the same year?

He wanted to ignore the annoying Esper.

But Gayoon thought Yang Youngjae would make a good personal trainer for Noh Yuno.

I don’t have to worry about Yang Youngjae making a move on Noh Yuno since he seems to have a deep bond with his Guide.

Speaking of that Guide who picked a fight with Noh Yuno...

The second picture that Yang Youngjae sent was a picture of his Guide (was it Choi Kangmin or something) while bowing and holding a letter.

<"Hyung-nim, is it okay if we send an apology letter to Guide Noh Yuno-ssi? We’re not sure if Guide Noh Yuno-ssi would want to talk to us in person yet. So, we just wrote an apology letter for now.">

It wasn’t up for Gayoon to decide, though.

"Baekho, send a message to Yang Youngjae and tell him I’ll ask Noh Yuno first."

"Yes, Boss."

YUNO immediately ran out of his room when he heard Ki Gayoon had arrived.

He almost fell asleep waiting for him, so he was glad he managed to stay up until the Esper had finally come home.

"Hyung!"

"What a surprise," Ki Gayoon said while handing his jacket to the helper. "It’s strange to see you that eager to see me, punk."

"We need to talk, Hyung," Yuno said, grabbing Ki Gayoon by the hand. And then he pulled him. "Let’s go to my room first."

Fortunately, Ki Gayoon followed him quietly.

But as soon as they got in Yuno’s bedroom...

Yuno was surprised and confused when he found himself against the wall...

... while Ki Gayoon was giving him a "kabedon."

Aka a wall slam.

Yuno was confused and turned on at the same time.

Hyung seriously has a lethal face and a sinful body to boot.

Ki Gayoon had his hands on either side of his head, trapping Yuno between the wall and his solid body.

This is a cliché position, but now I understand why it’s popular among romance readers.

Yuno’s heart may or may not have skipped a beat.

Hyung is bad for my already weak heart.

"Noh Yuno, I know what ’smut’ is now."

"Uh, congratulations?"

"And I also know what kind of comics you draw."

"What about it?"

"Nothing," Ki Gayoon said, his eyes glued to Yuno’s lips. "I just want to re-enact the smut that you draw."

Aigoo.

Yuno almost closed his eyes when Ki Gayoon started to lean down as if to kiss him.

But, fortunately, his rationality won over his lust.

"Hyung, Hyung," Yuno said, grabbing Ki Gayoon’s face between his hands. "Have you heard about the serial killer who kills Guides?"

Ki Gayoon let out a sigh. "Of course, you’d ruin the moment."

"What moment? You’re just teasing me after you found out I draw smut for a living."

"I’m sincere about re-enacting the smut scenes you draw."

"Hyung, I’m being serious here."

Ki Gayoon let out a sigh before finally answering his question. "Yes, I’ve heard about the serial killer who kills Guides. What about it?"

"Hyung, I want to catch the serial killer with my own hands..."

Yuno trailed off when he saw how Ki Gayoon’s face darkened as soon as he said that.

Hyung looks scary...?

"GUIDE NOH Yuno-ssi seems to be a good person."

Choi Kangmin didn’t know how to respond to Yang Youngjae— his Esper— so he just stared at the box that Noh Yuno sent to Yang Youngjae’s guild.

The box contained a wig.

It’s a wig made from the hair that Esper Ki Gayoon-nim cut off from Youngjae Hyung.

"Guide Noh Yuno-ssi apologized for making Gayoon Hyung-nim cut my hair off even though he didn’t have to," Yang Youngjae said. "He even included a list of hospitals that have children with cancer that might need a wig."

"I still don’t like Noh Yuno," Choi Kangmin said. "But I admit everything was my fault. I picked a fight with him just because I thought he was being rude to Guide Bambi-ssi. Because of my temper, you lost your spot in the Top 5. I’m really sorry about that, Hyung."

"It’s not your fault— I lost my spot because I lost the match," Yang Youngjae said while patting his back gently. "You’re probably low on sugar since you’re being sad again. Let’s buy you some ice cream before we go home. But let me take a quick shower first."

Choi Kangmin just nodded.

After Yang Youngjae headed towards the shower room, the entire gym fell silent.

Only his Esper was left working out at that hour.

If I didn’t come to fetch Hyung, he would probably work out for another hour. He really got motivated by Esper Ki Gayoon-nim’s advice during their last match.

Choi Kangmin chuckled. "Cute."

"Who? Me?"

What the...?

Choi Kangmin got up from the seat when he noticed that he wasn’t alone on the bench anymore.

But I didn’t notice them until they spoke...

"You’re Choi Kangmin, the #5 Esper’s Guide, aren’t you?"

This person doesn’t know that Youngjae Hyung and I have already lost our spot in the Top 5? When the match was the talk of the town for weeks? I’m sure even kids know what happened.

So, he found it strange that the person who knew his name didn’t know about the match.

And they’re giving me the creeps.

Choi Kangmin carefully stepped away from the stranger. "Who the hell are you?"
