Chapter 58: CUTE BUT DEADLY
Chapter 58: CUTE BUT DEADLY
<"ESPER Ki Gayoon-nim, you’ve been dispatched to the A-Grade Gate that appeared in Area Blue.">
Tsk.
’Area Blue’ was the code for the area around the Blue House— the President’s residence.
All the Top 5 were in charge to safeguard President Cheol Kang’s place, and the one who wasn’t dispatched to other Gates would be dispatched to clear the Gate in Area Blue.
Obviously, I’m the only one among the Top 5 who isn’t dispatched anywhere else.
"I got it," Ki Gayoon said to the Dispatcher. As its name suggested, Dispatchers were the ones in charge of sending the Top 5 Espers to the Gates that appeared in Area Blue. "Since the Gate doesn’t require a specific number of party members to enter the dungeon, I’m going solo."
The Dispatcher already sent an email to Gayoon before calling him for confirmation, and the email contained details about the Gate.
Hence, he already knew that he could raid the dungeon on his own.
<"Understood, sir. We’ll be waiting for you then.">
Gayon ended the call.
After that, he packed a few things in his Inventory before coming out of his room.
Then he met Baekho on the staircase since it looked like his right-hand man was about to come to him.
"Boss, I received a call from Guide Noh Yuno-ssi."
Gayoon knitted his eyebrows, annoyed. "Why does that punk know your number?"
"Guide Noh Yuno-ssi and I exchanged business cards after you introduced us to each other, Boss."
"What? That punk gave you his business card?"
"Oh, he didn’t give you one, Boss?"
That little rusty shit...
Gayoon clicked his tongue. "So, what did that punk say?"
"Guide Noh Yuno-ssi found out that we destroyed his newly renovated house. He wanted an explanation from you, Boss."
Tsk.
"Guide Noh Yuno-ssi also said he won’t come home until Boss gives him a proper explanation."
Again, tsk.
"Tell him I’m entering a dungeon, and we’ll talk after I cleared it."
"Yes, Boss..." Baekho said, and then he paused for a moment. "You’re entering a dungeon?"
"I got dispatched just now. Area Blue."
"Ah, it seems like President Cheol Kang plans to work you to the bone now that you’ve rejoined the Top 5, Boss."
"We already expected this to happen."
Moon Noa, that sly fox, must be happy now that the damned President has a new slave.
After Gayoon turned his back on the government to expand his business, President Cheol Kang turned Ryu Sungbin into his personal servant.
Apparently, it was the #1’s Esper’s responsibility to break his back for the country.
But now that I’m back, I’m sure President Cheol Kang will continue working me like a dog. And, if that’s the case, then Ryu Sungbin will finally get to take a break.
That was one of Moon Noa’s goals for convincing Gayoon to rejoin the Top 5.
["If you want to protect Yuyu properly, then you have to reclaim your position as one of the Top 5 Espers in the country. An Esper is a Guide’s pride, after all. Plus, if you give everyone a reason to be scared of you, then no one will dare to mess with Yuyu."]
That was what Moon Noa said to Gayoon after the sly fox sold Noh Yuno’s contract to him.
It sounded like Moon Noa cared about Noh Yuno, but...
I know better than that— Moon Noa just wants to lessen Ryu Sungbin’s burden as the #1 Esper by making me cooperate with the government again.
Gayoon knew that, and yet he still fell into the sly fox’s trap on purpose.
Because Moon Noa is right— I need to be on top of the hierarchy to protect Noh Yuno.
"Boss?"
Ah, Gayoon spaced out.
This is Noh Yuno’s fault.
"I’m not sure how long it will take me to clear the dungeon since I’m going solo," Gayoon said, sighing. "So, you’ll be in charge of Noh Yuno’s new workstation. Make sure everything is better than anyone else’s at the Bureau."
Baekho bowed his head politely. "As you wish, Boss."

SO, IT’S true that Ahjuhyung entered a dungeon.
Fortunately, Baekho didn’t lie.
Yuno watched the news on his phone while he was eating his lunch in the pantry of the HoneyMoon Convenience Store.
Ahjuhyung entered an A-Grade Gate alone?
Aigoo.
Why do S-Class Espers enjoy raiding dangerous dungeons on their own?
Well, it wasn’t like that was any of Yuno’s business.
I don’t have the luxury to worry about other people when I’m almost dying of exhaustion.
Today was a busy day for him since the launch of the HoneyMoon Self-defense Kit was a total hit. Hundreds of customers lined up early just to get their new product. As expected, women were their top customers.
But I’m glad that there are a handful of men in the line as well. I just hope they’re not resellers.
"H-Hyung, it’s me..."
Huh?
That voice...
Yuno quickly finished the (almost expired) roll of gimbap that he had for lunch, and then he drank the lukewarm green tea before cleaning up the table.
And then he finally opened the door.
So, I didn’t hear it wrong.
"Kim Jaeha," Yuno greeted Kim Jaeha— Esper Matthew’s exclusive Guide— in a surprised tone. "What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at work?"
"I-It’s my lunch break, Hyung," Kim Jaeha said shyly. "I’m here to buy your newest product. Hunter Lee Haerin-ssi recognized me, then she suddenly pulled me aside and brought me here."
Oh.
An A-Class Guide like Kim Jaeha was a VIP, after all.
Moreover, there was a reason why Lee Haerin brought the kid there.
"Come in," Yuno said, opening the door wide. "I’ll give you the unreleased limited edition of the HoneyMoon Self-defense Kit."
Kim Jaeha’s face beamed, and then he nodded politely. "P-Pardon my intrusion then."
The pantry of the store was small.
So, Yuno just made Kim Jaeha sit on one of the chairs surrounding the table for four, which he and his colleagues would use whenever they were together.
Which is rare because we have different shifts.
"Here," Yuno said after sitting down across from Kim Jaeha and pulling out the item from his Inventory. "This is the unreleased limited edition of the HoneyMoon Self-defense Kit."
He then pushed the red box to Kim Jaeha’s side of the table.
"Thank you, Hyung," Kim Jaeha said, his eyes sparkling while looking at the red box. "The normal kit is in a yellow box. But this one is in a red box. Can I open it now?"
"Sure."
Kim Jaeha opened the box and pulled out the entire kit— because it was a keychain set to begin with— from the red box. Then the kid suddenly looked confused. "Hyung, it just looks like the one you showed at the press conference," he said, raising his head. "May I know what makes this kit a limited edition?"
"The limited edition is the illegal version of the normal one."
"I-Illegal?"
"Self-defense kits are legal in our country as long as they are non-lethal," Yuno said bluntly. "But the limited edition of the HoneyMoon Self-defense Kit is illegal. First of all, each item you got there works on S-Class Espers— and it could potentially kill them."
Kim Jaeha let out a gasp. "H-Hyung, why did you make items that could kill S-Class Espers?"
***
"HYUNG-NIM, Kim Jaeha is currently at our store while having a private conversation with Noh Yuno."
"Oh, I see," Moon Noa said, leaning against his chair with a sly smile on his face. "So, the first target would be Jaejae."
It was actually a good choice.
Kim Jaeha was the youngest among the Top 5 Guides, and he seemed to look up to Noh Yuno.
If we play our cards right, we can pull Jaejae to our side~
"I can’t believe you’re actually using our Yuno to play your dirty game, Hyung-nim."
Moon Noa raised an eyebrow at Leehan (an alias and not a real name).
Right, this kid is like an older brother to Yuyu.
Leehan was an A-Class Esper who served as Moon Noa’s bodyguard.
Actually, he’s an S-Class Esper. But President Cheol Kang would have made a fuss if I made an S-Class Esper my bodyguard, so we faked Leehan’s class.
Yes, it was illegal to do so.
But if the government could do illegal stuff, why can’t I?
"Hyung-nim, you’re spacing out again."
"I’m hurt by your remark, you know?" Moon Noa complained lightly. "You made it sound as if I forced Yuyu to do something against his will."
Leehan gave him a dubious look. "Hyung-nim didn’t?"
Aigoo.
Leehan still treats Yuyu like an innocent child. The illegal version of the HoneyMoon Self-defense Kit is Yuyu’s idea, you know? Yuyu is cute, but he’s deadly just like the self-defense kit that he developed.
But it wasn’t like he could blame Leehan for thinking the worst about him.
"I know I’m called a sly fox for a reason, but I don’t manipulate people I consider my family," Moon Noa said, and he was being sincere. "You lived with Yuyu for quite some time, Hanhan. You should know by now that if there’s someone more desperate to break the system that controls Espers and Guides more than me, then it’s Yuyu and no one else."
***
"H-HYUNG, why did you make items that could kill S-Class Espers?"
Yuno thought it was a silly question from Kim Jaeha.
I mean, why would you make a deadly weapon if not for killing?
"Kim Jaeha, you can’t be this naïve," Yuno said in a lazy yet sincere tone since he really wanted to give a decent piece of advice to the kid. "Espers are more dangerous to Guides than dungeon monsters are."
