Chapter 106: CAUGHT IN THE ACT
HEHE.
Yuno sent several laughing emojis to Nam Sori, the storyboard writer he was working with, because the script that she sent to him was funny.
But he maintained a poker face while typing furiously on his laptop.
Writer Youngji’s webcomics is a bit dark compared to her previous work, but it still has the humor me and her readers are familiar with.
That was why it was fun drawing it.
Yuno wasn’t the only one working for the webcomics adaptation of Writer Youngji’s novel, of course.
Producer Bong was the one in charge of the project.
Nam Sori, as the storyboard writer, was the one responsible for adapting Writer Youngji’s novel into a webcomic format— making Yuno’s life as an artist easy.
Sori and I work well with each other because we’re best friends.
Yes, Nam Sori was his one and only trusted friend of the same age.
banohno: It’s been a while since we last saw each other, Sori-ya. When are you free?
SoriSoriSori: Yuno-ya, I’m working as a storyboard writer right now because I’m keeping a low profile. You know what that means, right?
Oh, right.
"I almost forgot that Sori is a wanted criminal," Yuno said while typing a reply. "The Rogue Clan must have angered the government again."
banohno: Don’t worry, Sori-ya. I’m gonna do something soon that will take the government’s attention away from your criminal organization.
SoriSoriSori: Yah, don’t make it sound like we’re villains! The government is the bad guy here!
Heh.
SoriSoriSori: But don’t do anything stupid, Yuno-ya. I know Ki Gayoon is strong. But he has too many enemies. If all the people who have a grudge against him worked together, then how is he supposed to protect you?
banohno: I can protect myself?
SoriSoriSori. Aigoo. Don’t overestimate yourself, dude. You’re a princess, not a knight. So, let the strong people protect you.
Tsk.
Sometimes the way Sori talks doesn’t fit her fragile appearance.
Nam Sori was the reason Yuno was attracted to pretty people.
Speaking of pretty people...
For some reason, Ki Gayoon’s handsome face flashed in Yuno’s mind.
Hyung isn’t the pretty type, but I really like his visual.
Yuno clicked his tongue, annoyed that he couldn’t take Ki Gayoon off his mind these days.
Physical attraction between a Guide and an Esper is normal, so why am I bothered?
["I’ll make you some rice porridge."]
That was what Ki Gayoon said earlier before leaving his room.
Will Hyung really make the rice porridge for me? Or did he just mean he’ll ask the chef to make it?
Now Yuno was really curious.
His attention was only diverted back to the present when his laptop made a noise.
SoriSoriSori: Yuno-ya, I need to log out now. Be careful, okay? I got an invitation from Noa Oppa. If I’m not busy, then I’ll come and attend your welcome party. But I can’t promise anything, so don’t expect too much.
That still made Yuno smile.
banohno: I get it. But I’ll still look forward to seeing you soon, Sori-ya. Don’t get caught by the government dogs.
After Nam Sori logged out, their entire conversation was automatically deleted.
My best friend is a criminal, so we have to keep our conversation private all the time.
Anyway, now Yuno was done for his work tonight.
No one has come up yet to inform me that dinner is ready, so that means the chef is still cooking in the kitchen?
Was it really the chef?
Yuno’s curiosity got the better of him, so he immediately got up and went out of his room.
It’s time to find out.
***
KI GAYOON was almost done cooking the rice porridge that he made for Noh Yuno.
Even though his body was busy cooking, his mind was elsewhere.
What Haru said to him before kept ringing in his head.
["It’s normal for a Guide and an Esper with a high matching rate to develop feelings for each other. So, what’s wrong if you fell for Yuno-kun?"]
["I won’t fall for a punk like Noh Yuno— so you don’t have to teach me the method to know whether I’m in love with him or not. Because I know that I’m not in love with him."]
["Alright, I respect your decision. And maybe it’s for the better anyway. After all, even if you fall for Yuno-kun, I don’t think he’d acknowledge your feelings."]
["And what do you mean by that?"]
["Yuno-kun doesn’t know what romantic love is even if it slaps him on the face. He believes he’s not worthy of love, so he’s cynical when it comes to romantic relationships. You’ll just have a hard time making someone like Yuno-kun notice your feelings for him."]
["Are you trying to provoke me?"]
["Of course not. I’m just giving you a friendly advice. I’ve known Yuno-kun for quite some time now, so I can already picture him denying your feelings for him even if you make it obvious."]
Gayoon didn’t want to admit it back then, but Noh Yuno never made a fuss about his strange behavior around him again and again.
Moreover, Noh Yuno would always blame Gayoon’s actions to his instincts as an Esper.
Hence, at the back of his mind, he had always known how his Exclusive Guide saw him.
["Is it because Noh Yuno believes that every good thing I say or do is only because I’m an Esper and he’s a Guide?"]
["Yuno-kun believes that a Guide and an Esper can build a genuine relationship— he just doesn’t believe that it can happen to him."]
["Then, if— and only if— I want Noh Yuno to see me as a man and not just an Esper, what should I do?"]
["You have to make Yuno-kun see that you don’t need him as a Guide— but you want him as a person."]
That was Haru’s advice.
Gayoon asked Noh Yuno not to guide him in the meantime because, uh, he just wanted to experiment?
To see if Haru was right?
He just wanted to understand how Noh Yuno’s mind worked.
So, Gayoon wasn’t doing it because he wanted to have a romantic relationship with that punk, okay?
It was just normal to be physically attracted to his Guide.
But that was it—
"Hyung?"
Gayoon almost dropped the casserole.
Fortunately, his telekinesis power came in handy—the casserole, along with the hot porridge in it, didn’t burn him.
Whew.
But now he had a new problem.
Gayoon knitted his eyebrows while looking at Noh Yuno who was looking at him with a shocked look on his face. "What are you doing here, punk?"
***
NO ONE stopped Noh Yuno from entering the kitchen.
Baekho, who served as Ki Gayoon’s right-hand man, just nodded to him politely before letting him in the kitchen.
Hence, he didn’t really expect to see the Esper there.
And Hyung is really the one cooking the rice porridge for me!
But it looked like Ki Gayoon was in deep thought because he didn’t notice Yuno standing near the door— watching his every move.
Hence, Yuno saw him setting the table as well.
And when Ki Gayoon was about to put the casserole on the table, that was when he unconsciously opened his mouth.
"Hyung?"
It was clear that Ki Gayoon was surprised to hear Yuno suddenly talk.
In fact, the Esper almost dropped the casserole and burned himself.
Thankfully, Ki Gayoon’s telekinesis power prevented that from happening.
Oh, no.
Yuno gulped nervously when Ki Gayoon turned to him with knitted eyebrows.
Is Hyung upset?
"What are you doing here, punk?"
Oh, he’s not.
Ki Gayoon was grumpy as usual, but the Esper wasn’t mad.
"Hyung said that you’ll make rice porridge for me, so I went here to check if you were the one cooking and not the chef," Yuno explained carefully. "Hyung, this isn’t the first time you’re cooking for me, is it?"
Now that Yuno had seen Ki Gayoon cooking rice porridge for him, he remembered the times the Esper would ask him what he wanted to eat.
Every time, he thought Ki Gayoon would just tell the chef what he wanted to have.
But, for some reason, it wasn’t hard to believe now that the Esper was the one making the food that he requested in the past.
"What if it was really me all along?"
Ah.
So, my hunch is correct.
"It was really Hyung."
"Not always," Ki Gayoon said while shaking his head. "At first, it was the chef. But when I noticed that you’re a picky eater, I tried making a simple dish for you. Luckily, you liked it out of all the dishes you tried that day, so I decided to cook for you from then on."
"Why didn’t you tell me, Hyung?"
"I thought you would stop eating the food I serve you if you find out I was the one who cooked them."
"Then Hyung thought wrong. I’m grateful, you know?"
Ki Gayoon smirked. "Had I known you would react sincerely, I would have revealed it right away to earn brownie points."
"Why?" Yuno asked nervously. "Why do you want to earn brownie points from me, Hyung?"
