Chapter 169: The Dungeon is Guarded

Chapter 169: The Dungeon is Guarded

Even before the Array had been fully set up, Eros had taken his leave. Of course, he was sure that things were already in other before he left.

This could not be helped. After all, the Dungeon had already opened up.

before Eros had left, they was a small commotion amongst his women for who would follow him on this journey to the dungeon.

Everyone wanted to come along, even Victoria was no exception this.

Queen Ella ended up taking a stand on the matter. After all, they needed fighters back home just as much as fighters were needed for the journey.

Eros did not mind the number of women going with him, but keeping the mountain safe was a higher priority.

At the end of the day, the women ended up drawing straws.

Amanda and Ngozi ended up winning the straw for joining Eros.

On Eros instructions both women dressed in a manner that hid their identities.

They hid their identities with face masks of animals and dressed in full flowing robes.

The distance from the mountain to the point where the dungeon was located was not far at all.

Eros, Ngozi, and Amanda moved from tree to tree.

However, after a while, they all paused on Eros’s command which he gave with a hand motion.

All three of them landed within the trees.

All of a sudden, Eros eyes looked at a tree not so far away from them, and then he moved.

He dug his hand with lightning speed into the bark of the tree and pulled out a man from it.

the moment he did, the man attacked with a dagger that was headed right for Eros’s head.

With a step back, Eros dodged the attack. He smiled at the attacker and then he threw him into the air.

Instantly, a shadow moved past the man, and by the time he landed on the ground, his head was missing from the rest of his body.

Ngozi landed next to the corpse as she wiped her dagger of the stain on the corpse.

"This is the third one since we left the Snake mountain," Amanda spoke up.

Ngozi nodded, "Baron Bolos must really have it out for us. We have been fast, but these trackers managed to keep up with us, and at the same time, they still managed to hide well.

If it was not for husband Eros, then finding them would have even be difficult for me."

Eros chuckled a bit, "don’t take it to heart, my dear. Your senses are not sharp to your environment— not because you are not good, but because you have already handed over the trouble of the journey to me, psychologically. Trust me, If I was not here, this would still be a piece of cake for you."

Ngozi immediately appologize, "I’m sorry..."

Eros suddenly placed a hand on her lips before she could talk, "don’t worry, I understand. I understand Perfectly. This is the way it is supposed to be.

A man is supposed to be in charge of the security of his women, especially when on outings."

After saying this he turned around, "Come, my dearies. I can already sense that we are close to our goal. Besides, we have guests to meet up ahead."

With a WUSH sound, Eros rushed once more through the trees and the women followed after him.

Just ahead of them, they could hear voices, low murmurs and complains.

Eros, Amanda, and Ngozi glided through the frost-laden trees, their movements a silent testament to their skill. Cloaked in the anonymity of their masks, they emerged from the woods, expecting solitude but finding a spectacle instead.

Before the dungeon’s ominous gates, a throng had gathered, a sea of ambition and rivalry. Armored figures from the realm’s most esteemed families brandished their banners in the cold air, each vying for the coveted Yellow Anchor stone within.

Amidst the gathering, a makeshift marketplace had sprung to life, its existence a cunning exploit of the day’s fervor. Merchants hawked their wares from stalls cloaked in snow, offering everything from sustenance to steel, their entrepreneurial spirits undampened by the chill.

The vibrant colors of their tents and the steam rising from food vendors cut through the winter air, creating a paradoxical warmth against the backdrop of anticipation and strategy.

However, it was the scene at the dungeon’s entrance that ensnared the trio’s attention. Silver-armored guardians, emblazoned with the royal crest of Almace, stood as unyielding sentinels.

Their presence turned the gateway into an impasse, forbidding entry to all who dared approach. Under the watchful eyes of these royal protectors, the dungeon remained an enigma, its secrets locked behind a barrier of steel and decree.

With the mid-winter chill biting at their skin, Eros, Amanda, and Ngozi stood at the edge of this unexpected convergence of commerce and contest, pondering their next move.

The cold air mingled with the tension of anticipation, turning breaths into misty plumes that danced away into the frigid sky. Here, on the threshold of adventure, the lines between friend and foe, between ally and rival, blurred under the weight of shared purpose and individual ambition.

As Eros, Amanda, and Ngozi observed the scene unfold, a subtle change caught Eros’s eye. A small group approached the silver-clad guardians, their hands subtly exchanging gold coins for passage.

The transaction was smooth, a silent agreement understood by both parties. However, a hiccup occurred when one figure, his face obscured by a mask, was halted.

The guard’s voice cut through the cold air, firm and uncompromising. "Show your face, or forfeit your entry," he demanded.

The masked individual’s reaction was immediate and telling—a moment of sheer panic followed by a desperate attempt to flee. But the escape was short-lived; the guards were quicker, their training evident as they easily subdued the figure.

With a swift motion, the mask was removed, revealing not a man, but a beast-man from a foreign land beneath. The revelation stirred a wave of murmurs among the onlookers.

Without ceremony, the beast-man was whisked away, his fate now a matter of speculation and whispered theories.

Eros watched this unfold, his expression darkening into a frown. The incident was a stark reminder of the prejudices and politics that simmered beneath the surface of this quest for glory and power.
