Golden Experience
Chapter 221: “Since you’re covering the character, I’m going to have to ask you to leave”

The discussion on Wells, Portree and Shape is temporarily concluded.

“…So for the recent situation, that’s about it. Rare-chan, have you thought about anything regarding Pearl?”

“Not anything significant, but I have some monkeys that escaped from Pearl’s forest. It might be interesting to let them subdue Pearl.”

“Ahh. That’s kind of a situation you might enjoy. Okay then, we’ll keep our hands off Pearl.”

“So for the overall progress, that’s about it. What about the event?”

“Right, the angels. The event period is already halfway through, and there should be enough sample dat by now. Do we have the location of the Sky Castle or its route?”

Lyra had consulted about predicting the trajectory of the Sky Castle before. To predict the location and route, it was necessary to gather statistics on the locations attacked by angels and the lag in timing. Since it was a cumbersome task, we gave up and left it to players who voluntarily tried to figure it out. It wasn’t a formal request or any implied posting, just complete neglect, relying on the trust that smart players would surely notice that it’s doable and figure it out.

“Did anyone look into it? I was too busy, so I could only check places that seemed relevant to me.”

“Yeah, someone did. When I checked last time, there were about 22 predicted routes, and it wasn’t useful at all, so I ignored it. But maybe they’ve narrowed it down by now.”

While Lyra researched forum posts about the whereabouts of the Sky Castle, I organized my army’s aerial forces.

First and foremost were the main forces, the Soldier Vespas, etc. In my faction, their combat power was lower compared to general ground forces like Carknights, but it was sufficient to deal with the angel grunts.

However, if we were to invade the Sky Castle, the number of angels we would face would be enormous. We had only been fighting the angels descending into Hiers territory, so we were always in a favorable position. But facing all the angels attacking the entire continent would be a tough ask. The angels wouldn’t use the usual tactic of fighting until they were completely wiped out; they would likely adopt a strategy to protect the Archangel and the Sky Castle. The goal of my Vespas was not annihilation; instead, it was to distract and delay the angels to prevent them from interfering with me.

Next were the guerrilla forces, the Beetle Knights and Beetle Warriors. Beetle Knights were giant beetles, and Beetle Warriors were stag beetles – essentially flying tanks and flying melee attackers.

However, their role as tanks was limited in high-speed combat in three dimensions. If they were to do something, it would be using their durability and weight for physical attacks or dodging while spreading skills like “Provoke” and letting another unit sweep away the gathered enemies with magic.

Since they wouldn’t receive significant damage from angel attacks, they would operate together with the Vespas for distraction.

Finally, in case there were high-ranking monsters under the Archangel, we had special forces: Ubel and Meganeuron. Originally, I planned to assign the Gargouille unit here, but due to unforeseen expenses, the plan fell through. Fortunately, or perhaps by chance, I as able to create numerous giant insects of almost the same size, so I decided to rely on them. While Gargouilles could use breath attacks, they had to compromise in that regard. At least, their physical combat capabilities were comparable to Gargouilles, so it should suffice.

To be cautious, Sugaru remained on standby. Although her status was equivalent to the Archangel, there was a considerable gap between her and me, despite being supposedly on the same level as a species. The Archangel, having lived for a long time, might even be stronger. I can’t afford to be careless.

“There are surprisingly few who can fly. Well, even if there were more, we can’t just leave the ground empty, so it’s a reasonable choice for the expedition team, I guess.”

“Alright, there doesn’t seem to be any confusion, and Professor Mori Etti’s predicted trajectory seems to have the highest probability of being right. Rare-chan, I roughly know the current location.”

“Got it. Thanks. Well then, let’s launch a counter-invasion right after the next attack.”

At that timing, the number of angels that would come out to intercept should be the lowest. After all, the angels who went out for the attack are mostly dead.

“That sounds good. The small fries will be waiting to respawn. Wanna join?”

“No need, just in case something happens, wait somewhere safe with my owl, Ominous. If things get dangerous, I can switch positions.”

“That cheesy skill, huh. Got it. Be careful.”

“I’ve made various preparations, so it’s fine. Since it’s an event, just cleaning up small fry and calling it a day would be boring.”

Currently, the event has become an instance that just periodically spawns small fry from the sky. Even if it leads to player-made points and rankings, the content is monotonous. It’s unlikely to end with no developments until the final day, but simply waiting for a new twist in the event is also not interesting.

Now that the midpoint of the event period has passed, it’s about time something significant happened.

“All right, let’s take a break until the next angel attack is over. Blanc is… still going, right? I should prepare clothes for her before I forget.”

“Oh, right. The dress you’re wearing, Rare-chan, is it a new one? If you look closely, isn’t it exposed under the shawl? Is it because of the wings? Hey, could you make one for me too?”

“Yeah, but the materials for it are expensive.”

“You’re charging me!? Even though I gave you so much mithril!”

“…Well, then it’s free. The material’s rank is a bit higher than thread, but it’s a service. I’ll even discount the production costs for labor and design fees.”

“…Thank you?”

“Well then, let’s take measurements—”

“Wait a minute.”

“What?”

“Huh? Oh, I see.”

“What is it?”

Lyra seemed to be looking down and fell silent for some reason. It wasn’t her usual habit when she was lost in thought. Probably something from a chat or something was coming in from somewhere.

Blanc is busy playing around with the Grand Temple right over there, and it’s certainly not me, of course.

Could it be one of her subordinates?

While the possibility of an ordinary player exists, no, it would be impossible for Lyra.

“Sorry, I’ve got something to do, so I’ll head back.”

“Is something wrong?”

“Yeah, well, I can’t say it right now. I’ll tell you later.”

Lyra disappeared somewhere.

The way she said she can’t say it right now bothers me.

It’s as if she’s not saying it of her own will.

Knowing Lyra, if she really couldn’t say it, she wouldn’t phrase it like that. So, if she chooses to say it that way, there must be some meaning to it.

“I can’t say it right now”, but it’s not her own will. Then whose directive is it?

In the game, there are very few entities that could give instructions to Lyra.

If it’s not me, it can only be one other party.

Most likely, it was a message from the game developers.

She might have received some proposal or cooperation request related to the game’s progression that involves confidentiality.

If that’s the case, even if I ask, she can’t really answer, and it won’t necessarily benefit either of us. She said later, so she’ll talk once the gag order is lifted.

But for now, the focus is on the angels and the Archangel in front of me.

*

With the scheduled angel attack concluded, the time for the decisive battle was approaching.

“It feels like a chore at this point. I wonder if the devs intend to drag it out until the last day.”

“Who knows? Even if they do, I don’t plan on letting it end like that.”

To defeat the Archangel and restore peace to this continent is my goal. Although it may sound presumptuous coming from someone who arrived later, I want the Archangel gone because of the slight visual resemblance with me.

“Good luck, Rare-chan! If you need support, just let me know anytime!”

Blanc seems to have thoroughly enjoyed the giant-sized battle and is now back to her normal form, properly dressed. Giant Blanc maintained her hero form while enlarging, unlike me and Lyra, who only had our upper bodies grow from our foreheads. This difference is also intriguing.

If it’s due to the Demon Lord or Evil King, would Blanc also have her upper body grow from her giant hero’s forehead if she became a True Ancestor?

“There might still be areas where the attack hasn’t ended, but normally, you don’t give instructions to subordinates in distant places just because. You don’t have to worry about it. According to the predicted route, the Sky Castle is currently moving north from Portree towards the Hiers capital. We got lucky.”

I issued orders for all interception teams stationed at various bases to take off towards the Hiers capital. Since it’s right after the attack, our forces are a bit depleted compared to usual, but it’s unlikely that the damage on their side is comparable.

We’ll regroup near the capital and march in the opposite direction of their route. We’ll probably encounter them in the skies above the southern outskirts of the capital.

“Take care…”

“Yeah, got it. I’m off.”
