Golden Dragon: Six Thousand Years of Empire
Chapter 81: Ancient Form, Heavenly Wings

Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Ancient Form, Heavenly Wings

That was an ancient creature that truly existed eons ago, from too remote a primeval era to trace back to, so much so that even longevity species like the Dragon Species do not know of their existence. However, as long as they exist, there will naturally be records. The world silently records the traces of all living beings.

"What beautiful wings!"

Noah gazed at the giant serpent roaming in the sky dome, an envious expression subtly surfacing on his face.

These heavenly wings allowed the ground-crawling giant serpent to ascend into the sky and become the ruler of the sky dome. Without these huge wings, although the giant serpent could still freely traverse the vast earth, it would never have such a presence as a ruler.

"What a pity!"

As the silhouette of the god-like giant serpent gradually faded, Noah couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

Because the Golden Dragon, being the strongest True Dragon Species of the Metallic Dragon Race, has wings that are different from others, they can hardly even be called dragon wings and are more like specialized fins, serving merely as aides in flight.

"It would be great if I could have such wings!"

As the shadow of the giant serpent dissipated in an instant, the Golden Tree reappeared before his eyes, and such a thought involuntarily arose in Noah’s mind.

As the thought emerged, even Noah’s conscious mind felt a drowsiness, a kind of sleepy languor.

Noah did not resist this, or rather he couldn’t resist it, as the slumber of the True Dragon is all-encompassing, from spirit to will, and onto the body.

However, just before falling into deep slumber, a sensation emerged, similar yet entirely different, that was the Word Spirit: when the Candle Sun resonated with external powers, it triggered some force to transform his body.

Now, the familiar sensation reappeared, but the location was different, it was on the sides of his wings, above the forelimbs, and the feeling was completely different, it was a sense of tingling, itching warmth, as if bones and flesh were growing.

This sensation, to some extent, could be called a form of torment, under normal circumstances, Noah couldn’t fall asleep no matter what.

But now, Noah did fall asleep, his conscious mind sank into darkness, reaching a state of oblivion and insensibility, with no perception of the outside world.

When Noah awoke again, an incredibly unfamiliar yet strong sensation surged into his heart instantly.

The Golden Dragon slowly opened its eyes, within the spacious and bright chamber, everything seemed unchanged, but upon a little inspection, one could find scorch marks on the floors, walls, and even the dome of the residence the Golden Dragon crafted for itself, indicating they were melted by high temperature and later resolidified.

"..."

Noah lifted a Dragon Claw, covered in small yet shining scales, the five toes agilely bent, matching the flexibility of primate limbs, though this is a characteristic Golden Dragons inherently possess, it’s not surprising.

Yet, this couldn’t erase the unfamiliar feeling in the Golden Dragon’s heart at this moment, for the extent of change in this body was truly tremendous.

The Golden Dragon slightly turned its head, coming into view was a pair of wings, folded in place, which a Golden Dragon was never supposed to have.

Swish~

The Dragon Wings spread within the chamber, stirring up a gust of airflow, Noah carefully examined the brand-new Dragon Wings he acquired after his slumber here.

They were a wide pair of Dragon Wings covered in scales and feathers, unlike any Dragon Species’ wings, and differing from the god-like giant serpent’s wings seen in what seemed like a dream returning to the ancient wilderness, though somewhat similar.

At the edge where the wing bones of these broad Dragon Wings lay, scales with glittering gilt divine marks neatly and orderly covered them; as the scales descended, feathers seemingly soft replaced them and connected with the Dragon Scales, then, the feathers gradually elongated and became more splendid, shining with a gorgeous luster.

Between scales and feathers, the form and structure were clear and distinct, yet coordinated and harmonized, giving a sense of harmonious perfection.

This unique pair of Dragon Wings replaced the fin-like structures Noah originally possessed as a Golden Dragon, adding some divine and majestic aura a common Golden Dragon wouldn’t have.

"When my parents come back, will they even recognize me?"

After thoroughly observing his newly formed Dragon Wings, a random thought flashed through Noah’s mind. But it was merely a self-joke and tease of his own.

After all, countless mutated individuals have emerged in the Dragon Clan’s evolutionary history spanning eons, even those born freakish weren’t held accountable.

Since the vast majority of Ancient Dragons would possess some biological traits not seen in their Dragon Clan branch, it’s merely a matter of degree or frequency.

Now, during his second transformation, Noah possessed a pair of unique Dragon Wings absent in most Dragon Species, hence it wasn’t a big deal, for he retained the primary traits of a Golden Dragon.

At this age, experiencing such circumstances was indeed peculiar, but merely peculiar. It hadn’t reached the level of amazement or astonishment for dragons; similar cases, if searched, could be found by the thousands.

"Roar—"

After initially adapting to his strange yet powerful new dragon physique, Noah shifted his attention from himself to the outside world, then couldn’t help but let out a lamenting wail, filled with boundless sorrow and pain.

"Where’s my Sunburn Crystal?!"

The divine object coveted even by Ancient Dragons, at this moment, not even a shadow could be found. Noah’s dragon pupils instantly turned pure gold, with flames pouring out.

Yet alas, regardless of how Noah tried searching, no trace of any thief could be found, not to mention the Dragon Nest’s Defense Magic Array remained intact without any sign of intrusion.

"Could I have absorbed it all?"

Based on the Meteorite Gold still coiled beneath him, Noah arrived at a conclusion that even he found somewhat absurd.

Before slumber, the Meteorite Gold he used as a new bed no longer gleamed with dazzling brilliance, revealing its true color.

This is a dark-hued black gold, though from time to time a stream of light flashed across it, outlining innate and primitive patterns.

Noah knew this was the true color of the Meteorite Gold, and its revelation represented that the Power of the Sun it contained was almost fully extracted.

Its remaining value was only in forging weapons, though with enough patience, it could be placed under the sun to once again absorb the Power of the Sun and recover, but that time span would be long enough to plunge short-lived species into despair.

"Was this sleep so costly?"

Noah couldn’t help but shake his tail, then dragged his dragon body to compare with the Meteorite Gold beneath him, roughly estimating,

"Not even eighteen meters, not grown that much... How did a perfectly good Sunburn Crystal vanish without a trace?"

...

PS: I really want to complain, it’s been so long, and no one’s posted a decent version of the 5E new Golden Dragon picture in the comment section.

It’s the most pleasing Golden Dragon design I’ve seen so far, yet it’s just pleasing to the eye. As for previous versions of the Golden Dragon image,

To be honest, I never considered writing a Golden Dragon as a protagonist until I saw the new Golden Dragon design, which inspired this book.

But even so, I don’t find this Golden Dragon image perfect; those wings truly make me want to rant, what the heck, has anyone called the new Golden Dragon by any names?

Golden Kelp, Golden Eel.

Of course, no matter how imperfect it is, this Golden Dragon still sparked my thoughts, so I researched quite a bit, and I found that no matter the version of the Golden Dragon, its prototype was designed with the Oriental Dragon’s appearance as its basis, though the chosen elements are indescribable.

The most typical is the catfish whiskers, inspired by the oriental dragon’s whiskers, but grafted onto the Western Dragon, it’s utterly hideous, neither having the elegance and grace of the oriental dragon nor the ferocity of the western dragon, just a mishmash.

So this book’s Golden Dragon protagonist, although based on the new Golden Dragon image, will undergo changes. As for the direction of change, naturally, it will lean towards the Oriental Dragon, as its design reference is the Oriental Dragon.
