Chapter 380: Chapter 238: One Rank Lower, All Are Trash?
"Great Uncle, I know it’s not appropriate, but besides this place, I can’t think of anywhere better to take in Aveline."
Single-handedly, against family opposition, Alexander, who brought out his younger sister, knelt on one knee on the ground, asking Noah to satisfy his request.
"Not appropriate? If it’s inappropriate, why did you cause such a scene? When you forcefully entered Uther City with your brother, why didn’t you think ahead then?"
Noah’s gaze turned toward the side of the great hall, where the Golden Dragon attendant, Theodore, lounged lazily, playing with fire out of boredom.
At this moment, the events happening in the Royal City of Uther had begun to spread in all directions. Clearly, the brothers had jointly rescued their sister, but in various versions of the tale being told, it became a tale of a solitary, brave Crown Prince, with the dragon he rode being dismissed as less than human.
"I thought about taking Aveline back to my territory, but it’s not suitable there."
Alexander explained with a pained expression.
"Why is it unsuitable? What? Your territory has become too poor to even feed an orphan and a widow?"
Only then did Noah cast his gaze toward the bumbling fool below.
"Of course not, it’s just that I found out our father is very angry with my actions."
Fear appeared on Alexander’s face, a look completely unlike what a son should have for his father, resembling more how one would face a powerful and unpredictable enemy.
"Look at the things you have done, they’re far too coarse. Who wouldn’t be angry? The desire to save your sister is understandable.
But given your status, you could have chosen a more gentle and tactful approach. Did you need to charge in directly? How does this reflect on your father, your family?"
Noah pinpointed the root of the issue. For the minor nobles, the general populace, and thrill-seeking adventurers and mercenaries, they could sit back and watch the spectacle.
But for the kingdom’s great nobles and Legendary Families, Alexander, who was publicly a strong contender for royal succession, left much to analyze in his actions.
The father-son opposition and the alienation from the family were too evident to ignore.
"I was too worried about Aveline..."
With horns on his brow, scales on his cheeks, dragon wings on his back, and a tail trailing behind, Alexander tried to justify his actions.
Usually, he didn’t display such a form, adopting a humanoid shape instead. But realizing the gravity of his impulsive acts, he revealed his true form, seeking Noah’s help.
"Enough, no need to explain, you don’t trust your family, nor do you trust your father."
Noah directly pointed out that Alexander, who had been raised by him since childhood, clearly had no affection for his father, and even less sense of belonging to his family.
Though their food and clothing were largely provided by the family, emotionally, he didn’t feel much of a connection. Instead, he felt more care and arrangement from Noah.
It was for this reason that, after causing trouble outside, he sought first Noah’s protection.
"That’s why you did something so foolish."
"I indeed don’t trust them, so I won’t allow them to discuss how to deal with Aveline and my nephew."
In his Dragon-man form, Alexander, with his intimidating golden eyes, glanced at the young woman cradling a baby beside him—his sister—whose face was gaunt and expression frightened like a startled doe.
"Great Uncle, I shamelessly implore you..."
"Stop it, you’re not a child anymore, and you are capable of taking care of yourself."
Noah interrupted Alexander’s words, choosing not to continue being a caretaker. Although the child in Aveline’s arms appeared to have some talent, he wasn’t interested in nurturing him.
Because the child no longer bore the Augustus surname. With such a unique birth and early life, he should have his own life.
"Aveline, do you have the courage to take your child to a place where the Augustus family cannot find you and live independently?"
"Please, Great Uncle, make the arrangements!"
The young woman, like her brother, knelt on the ground with her child in her arms, bowing to express her gratitude to Noah.
Among the fourth generation of the Augustus family, her ambition was the lowest, and naturally, her development could also be said to be the poorest, wholly unfit for an Augustus family heir.
Her private marriage to a poor paladin was perhaps the biggest upheaval she could create in her lifetime, yet even so, she lacked the ability to bear the consequences alone.
"You don’t need my arrangements."
Noah looked up and aimed his gaze outside the palace, where an older man clad in battered silver armor was leading a similarly attired but anxious young man,
"Your husband has already brought people to find you!"
"Will!"
Upon hearing Noah’s words, a bright light erupted in the eyes of the woman, who previously was filled with terror and unease, turning her head to look outside the palace.
Such emotions and displays caused Alexander’s brow to furrow, scales creasing in displeasure.
"Sifreya, please bring the two paladins outside in. Young people can be impatient."
The Dragon Fairy’s figure emerged, followed by a stream of flickering Spirit Light, flashing outside Noah’s palace.
"Burn, greetings to the Holy Dragon Grand Lord."
The old knight in tattered but pristinely clean silver armor greeted Noah with neither arrogance nor servility. He introduced himself simply by name, but the abundant Holy Light he exuded declared his identity outright.
