Chapter 354: Chapter 225 Alexander’s Ambition
"Hmm, the situation at the border seems to be getting worse."
The alien race, continually migrating south due to the great disaster in the north, has been harassing the Kingdom’s borders. Initially, this matter had little to do with Noah, as the Golden Dragon simply needed to firmly control Elisium to profit from the war. However, Augustus, whom he had meticulously nurtured, has already been caught up in the vortex of war.
Among the many tribes migrating south, the first to seek refuge with the Atlas Kingdom was the Centaur Khanate, which committed several horrendous atrocities at the border, infuriating Uranos, who launched a military campaign in response.
As the Commander of the legion, Alexander achieved continuous victories. Within the Centaur Khanate, which numbered three to four million, the Great Khan, along with the left and right Kings, were all executed. The remaining centaurs were largely massacred, yet still, over a million centaurs scattered and fled in various directions.
From the standpoint of military achievements, Alexander did exceedingly well. However, regrettably, the Prince did not complete the extermination order given by his father, as the Centaur Khanate was not completely annihilated.
Thus, after leading his legion on a campaign, Alexander, who had not lost a single battle, was reprimanded and ordered to station at the Kingdom’s northwestern border to resist the southward fleeing alien tribes, forbidding any creatures from entering the Kingdom’s territory.
Undoubtedly, this was quite a thankless and arduous task. The Kingdom’s borders, facing the north and Central Earth, were no longer as they used to be and remained the most battle-prone and problematic regions.
Even though the Atlas Kingdom had obliterated a faction of the Centaur’s Golden Tent Khanate through iron-fisted means, shocking numerous nations, the northern clans destined to flee southward continued to escape.
Nobody denied the strength of the Atlas Kingdom and its ruler’s toughness, yet no one wanted to resist either; everyone was just fleeing to survive. If the escapees were determined to hide in desolate places, no amount of troops could guard against them.
This was the problem Alexander faced. His father had given him an almost impossible task – how could he guard a border line that stretched thousands of miles?
"Build the Northern Border Wall!"
When Alexander sought help from Noah, he had no better solution, so he only managed to give him this less-than-perfect advice.
"The Wall? How long will that take to build?"
Alexander, who came full of hope for advice, was dumbfounded upon hearing the suggestion from the Holy Dragon,
"Moreover, this doesn’t complete my father’s command."
"It was a task meant to be impossible to complete, so you just need to show your father that you’re trying your best."
Seeing Alexander’s clueless look, Noah lazily yawned,
"Lead your legion and, while building the Wall, clear out those northern alien raiders and report your achievements from time to time. That’s basically all you need to do.
If he scolds you, then just put up with it. If you can’t stand it, let your father replace you. After all, it’s not a great task.
You’ll get scolded for mistakes, and there are no benefits for doing well. You’re at a point where nothing more can be conferred upon you. So, just do as you please."
"I will lead the legion to build the Wall, but I will also strive to complete my father’s command."
Hearing the let-it-go suggestion from his Holy Dragon uncle, Alexander decided to only take part of the advice,
"The main reason we cannot intercept the fleeing aliens is the insufficient number of legion soldiers, so I plan to expand the legion while building the Wall by recruiting troops from the migrating alien tribes from the north."
"You know better than I do what the Centaurs did. Under such circumstances, recruiting new soldiers from the migrating northern alien tribes will surely draw a lot of criticism."
Noah looked at the young man across from him with a pair of Dragon Horns growing from his forehead and reminded him with a surprised tone.
"Uncle, during the war against the Centaur Khanate, I learned something."
"Oh?"
"Every group can be divided internally, but excessive external pressure will only force them to unite and unleash all their potential in resistance, which will result in greater losses."
Alexander took a deep breath and then spoke words that were shocking,
"If given another chance to fight the Centaur Khanate, I would request my father revoke the extermination order and allow the legion to accept prisoners of war, as I could completely annihilate that Centaur tribe in a shorter time."
"Is this your reason for wanting to recruit soldiers from the local alien tribes—to use one alien race against another?"
"Yes."
"Your father will undoubtedly face opposition around him."
"My soldiers need slaves, and forming a slave army from the alien race, what’s wrong with that?"
"It’s a good reason; you can give it a try."
Noah paused and then proposed a second suggestion,
"If you have the ambition, you could take this opportunity to be permanently stationed in the northwest. You should have a territory of your own. A Legion Leader who listens only to the King lacks competitiveness."
"I will."
Alexander nodded. He was no longer the naive young man solely pursuing the True Blood Inheritance. After obtaining it, he had higher goals and pursuits.
However, his father was an insurmountable mountain. He had realized that his father, King Atlas, only admired descendants with the Titan Bloodline.
As for him, a descendant who obtained the Ancestor Dragon True Blood Inheritance, although he could enjoy the honor and status deserving of the Royal Family, he could not be compared to another brother.
