Chapter 333: Chapter 214 The Greatly Shocked Son of Hell_2
The young man was somewhat surprised as he gently held the woman’s outstretched hand, introduced himself, and then quickly let go.
"Knight? Are you a Noble Knight or a Professional Knight of the Extraordinary?"
Belle asked curiously.
"Professional Knight. In terms of status, there’s no difference between us."
Not long ago, this young man, who had rejected the identity of a prince and even fought his father over it, said so.
"Wow, that’s really impressive. I think you’ll soon earn a knight title on your own merits."
"Ignorant woman."
Upon hearing the woman’s blessing, the Little Fairy couldn’t help but mutter.
"I have no interest in becoming a Noble."
Wayne reached out and gently tapped the little creature on his shoulder, then replied as if nothing had happened.
"Not interested in becoming a Noble?"
Upon hearing the young man’s calm statement, the woman was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but smile with amusement.
"So, Mr. Knight, what are you interested in?"
"I haven’t decided yet."
Suddenly learning who his biological father was, one of the most prestigious figures on the continent,
Wayne hadn’t yet come to terms with such a significant change and identity transformation, and his thoughts were still a tangled mess.
After returning to his hometown, his mind settled a bit, but he still hadn’t decided what he should do next.
"You’re quite humorous, Mr. Wayne. If you can’t find anything to do for the time being, you could try applying to become a swordsmanship teacher at our school.
However, the prerequisite for applying as a teacher is to have no criminal record. If you’re someone from out of town, then you’ll need to undergo a Spell examination."
"If the requirements for applying as a teacher are as simple as that, I think I should be fine."
Wayne couldn’t help but reach up to touch his forehead, quickly confirming that his horns hadn’t shown through, awkwardly rubbing his nose instead.
He initially thought that this teacher approached him to invite him for a meal or tea, or to attend some salon gathering, and then something might happen by chance.
He had experienced such situations many times before, benefiting from an inherent advantage in appearance, as long as he hid his devil traits, he could easily blend into the aristocratic circles.
Especially at those salon balls hosted by noble ladies, he thrived and often used such opportunities to raise funds when the Judgement Knight Order was not doing well.
But awkwardly enough, the charm that had intoxicated so many noble ladies didn’t work this time; this teacher had approached him just to question his motives.
Appearing at the school gates at dismissal time, and glancing inside the school while smiling inexplicably at the departing children, made him extremely suspicious.
Unfortunately, Wayne hadn’t realized that he had already been marked as a dubious and unknown individual with unclear motives until the teacher pointed it out.
"Then you can come by and try tomorrow. But for someone like you from out of town to enter the school, you’ll need to visit the temple and get a Priest to issue a no-criminal record certificate."
"I’m not an outlander."
Wayne retorted again and then curiously asked,
"Which Priest of the Divine should I visit for the no-criminal record certificate?"
"Any True God spreading faith under the Holy Dragon’s Radiance can do."
"Alright, thank you."
Realizing it wasn’t suitable to linger there for too long, Wayne thanked her and turned to leave.
"What an arrogant mortal, it’s outrageous!"
Once they had walked some distance, the Little Fairy on Wayne’s shoulder couldn’t hold back any longer; she had never seen a mortal dare to interact with a Transcendent so boldly.
"Doesn’t this just prove that the security here is good, that even Extraordinary Professionals dare not harm mortals, allowing them to speak equally with Transcendents?"
Wayne had just noticed that when he mentioned his profession as a knight, that woman didn’t show the slightest respect or awe.
"That’s terrifying!"
The Fairy couldn’t help but exclaim and then voiced her concerns,
"Mortals losing their awe of Transcendents is bound to cause problems."
"What’s so terrifying about that?"
Wayne shook his head. Although he felt it wasn’t ideal for mortals to be protected to this extent, it wasn’t a big issue. What truly unnerved him was the attitude of these mortals towards the Divine.
Divine beings, though still high and mighty, capable of establishing temples and spreading faith, seemed to be regarded as tools by these mortals.
The Divine had completely lost its due majesty, being overshadowed by the Holy Dragon, which seemed to have become superior to all gods in the eyes of these mortals.
This is the truly frightening thing.
Wayne had had much contact with the True God Church, and considered himself to be very knowledgeable about the Divine and its churches.
Perhaps the Divine doesn’t care about its reputation and prestige being overshadowed by a Golden Dragon, but the Divine’s church surely does.
No True God Church would ever endorse an order under Holy Dragon rule.
Perhaps now, because the Holy Dragon is powerful enough and binds with the Augustus family, many Divine Churches have chosen to stay silent.
But can the Holy Dragon guarantee its everlasting strength? Can the Augustus family always flourish? Once they peak and begin to decline, all discontent and conflicts may erupt.
Even though he noticed the hidden dangers, Wayne didn’t let this issue linger in his mind for long. What does it have to do with him?
The ones who should be worried are the Holy Dragon and the Augustus family. Even though his body carries the bloodline of the Augustus family, he wasn’t planning to associate with them.
That being said, Wayne still temporarily settled in his hometown, and to better integrate and reacquaint himself with the unfamiliar hometown, he really applied for a swordsmanship teacher position at a local elementary school, and successfully got the job.
"This is absolutely ridiculous!"
After completing the employment paperwork and leaving the principal’s office, Wayne couldn’t help but twitch his mouth.
He initially thought his choice was outrageous enough, but he just discovered that his direct superior, namely the principal, was actually an aging Red Copper Dragon.
This wasn’t about winning a fight; it was about such a powerful Dragon choosing to be a principal at a primary school for mortals.
However, Wayne quickly discovered that the outrageousness didn’t stop at the principal; the teachers weren’t simple either. For instance, his office mate, the physical education teacher, seemed to be a reclusive Paladin.
He didn’t know how strong he was, but Wayne didn’t enjoy being in the same room, because he felt a strong sense of threat.
Also, the school’s gardener was a Druid Elder from the wilderness sect, also with too much free time, coming to school to water and plant flowers.
Wayne first thought such a special phenomenon only existed at the elementary school where he worked, perhaps as a form of targeting, but when Wayne slightly broadened his activities, he realized he had overthought and had excessive self-consciousness.
The streets and alleys of this city were inhabited by many hidden identities, powerful individuals enjoying a peaceful and ordinary life, and some powerful exotic species fond of human-like civilization.
"Just how many powerful individuals are hidden here?"
In the end, Wayne stopped his probing, as it was a disturbance and an offense to those in seclusion.
Although most weren’t his match, Wayne had no doubt there were Legends hidden among them, as there were too many reclusive strong individuals, and compared to them, he was nothing.
However, just as Wayne began to adapt and enjoy his quiet and peaceful campus life, the arrival of a girl soon shattered his dream.
