Chapter 219: 64. It’s Sakuragi Hitomi’s turn to play a card.
"We at Yuanyue and Xiuzhi learn math a bit faster than other schools, and there’s a lot of geometry involved. Let me give you the lowdown... Take a look at this material, it’s all prepared by me and the President."
Tuesday morning, at the top-floor discussion room of the Yuanyue Academy library.
Yahashiki pulled over a blackboard and began to erase the writing on it as he started speaking.
However, Spencer, sitting in front of him, wasn’t paying any attention to Yahashiki. She just turned her head to look towards Yan Huan, revealing a "devilishly evil" smile.
"..."
Yan Huan, massaging his sore muscles, ignored her.
Ever since this gal got that black bag stuffed with strange comics, it’s as if she’s gained a Magic Treasure or something.
She’s always looking at me and seems to have picked up a weird, yet impressively evil, grin...
I should’ve known. An Le probably bought something like "Dragon of Rope Binding" at the comic convention, and Spencer must’ve picked up some real moves too.
Alright, wait and see, Spencer. Let’s see how I’ll deal with you.
Thinking this, Yan Huan looked around the moderately-sized discussion room with just the three of them and showed an "as I thought" expression.
On the plane, Bai Yi just sent a message,
"Sorry, sorry, Yan Huan. I’ve got an event tomorrow morning and won’t be back at school until noon.
Could you please fill out the study group list for me? I want to join."
Yan Huan sent a "got it" cat emoji, then locked his phone and started to ponder.
That meant the study group would be just two people, including Bai Yi.
Only Spencer was forced to join from grades one, two, and three. The rest, as usual, were just recommended to join.
If it’s not mandatory, nobody will come.
Moreover, it would be Yan Huan from grade one’s student council tutoring the senior grades, which would be embarrassing if any actually showed up.
But, after all, this study group was just a bowl of "dumplings" prepared by Principal Hermes as a dish of "vinegar" for Spencer.
As long as the "vinegar" was consumed, who cared what the "dumplings" looked like?
So, the study group format that Yan Huan and Yahashiki discussed was roughly like this:
For the five main subjects, Yahashiki would be responsible for the more science-related subjects, mathematics, and science, while Yan Huan would handle languages, reading, and social studies.
First, assess the baseline, then Yan Huan would create a specialized study plan.
When it comes down to it, Spencer’s modifier seemed a bit mysterious to Yan Huan.
It didn’t seem as complex as Ye Shiyu or Bai Yi, nor as thrilling as An Le’s.
You’d think it’s powerful, but it’s not always apparent. Intermittently powerful, indeed.
Not powerful? Yet, it felt like her modifier was always active, no cooldown, truly exaggerated.
So, Yan Huan planned to start by collecting information to figure out the exact effects of the modifier, its duration, and such, before making further plans.
To achieve this, Yan Huan intended to add a bit of intensity to Spencer’s studies...
"Seriously, girl... what are you even doing? It’s one thing to guess on multiple-choice questions, but look at this third question. There are just four options—how in the world did you choose option E?"
There’s a pro?
Yan Huan glanced at Spencer in front of him, holding a water-based pen and looking impatient, only to see her staring silently at the multiple-choice question, then turning to ask Yahashiki,
"If not for you, who else is to blame?"
"Blame me for what?"
"Why did you only set four options? Couldn’t you add a few more?"
"I..."
Yahashiki looked at the righteous Spencer and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
While pointing at her, he turned to look back at Yan Huan,
"Hey, President, isn’t this interesting, huh?"
"..."
Yan Huan sighed and walked over.
But just ten short minutes later, Spencer almost broke Yahashiki.
"President, look at this, she can’t even solve a simple quadratic equation, let alone anything else... How are we supposed to teach this... this... Either this gal is really not studying, or she’s just dumb. Maybe she should repeat elementary school."
"Ha?! Did you call me dumb?!"
No matter what Yahashiki had said before, Spencer looked disdainful until the latter half of his statement, which made her suddenly stand up, red with anger.
Her abrupt motion flipped the wooden table over onto the floor, startling Yahashiki enough to hide behind Yan Huan,
"What... what are you going to do? This is a school, you... you better not lose it!"
"Come out here and see if I don’t beat you to death!"
"Pres... President, save me!"
Yan Huan just glanced at the iron-fist-raised Spencer, and then lifted the flipped table back up, picking up her unfinished assessment as well.
He swept an expressionless glance at Spencer, who, having initially been huffing and puffing, somehow seemed to have thought of something and calmed down a bit.
Right, underestimate me, that’s best.
The more you do that, the harsher I’ll...
Spencer’s expression became more excited, even licking her lips.
Yahashiki felt a chill for no reason, while Yan Huan just glanced at her paper and muttered,
"Equate... Hmm, barely knows algebra either..."
"See, President? What’s the point of her joining the study group if she struggles with solving quadratic equations? No wonder she only scored 66."
Hearing this, Spencer’s head shot up again, but this time, she didn’t even see Yahashiki.
He had fully retreated behind Yan Huan, only daring to mutter from there.
