Chapter 49: My son is dead
Chapter 49: My son is dead
As the strings vibrated, more and more beautiful melodies floated in the air.
Five minutes later, Cecilia was stunned for a few seconds when Alex finished the piece perfectly.
The others were even more surprised and couldn’t help but applaud.
Alex didn’t think much of it; the harp was just one of the many instruments he could play.
Both Alex and Emma had inherited Cecilia’s musical talent, but Steven had focused on nurturing Alex’s musical abilities, which was why he was proficient in various instruments.
However, Cecilia wasn’t aware of this.
‘Is this still my daughter?’
While Cecilia was puzzled, Alice and Mary looked very displeased beside her.
This was especially true for Alice. The harp was her best instrument, and her connection with James and Elena made the entire Star City hold her in high regard.
Every contest, whether big or small, was rigged for her to win first place.
She had never been humiliated like this. How could she possibly accept such an insult?
Elena noticed Alice’s embarrassment and cleared her throat.
"Alright, we’ve chatted long enough. It’s time to eat..."
Alice suddenly interrupted Elena, angrily pointing at Alex.
"Why should he eat with us? He’s just an illegitimate child from unknown origins, unworthy of dining with us! Make them all leave!"
"Shut up!"
Elena immediately became serious upon hearing these words. She did pamper Alice, but Alice’s tactless mouth was something she would not tolerate.
"Who taught you to say such things?"
The meaning behind her words was clear; such vicious and articulate words could not come from such a young child unless taught by her own mother, Mary.
Cecilia, of course, understood this as well.
She turned to Elena.
"Great-aunt, I don’t want to ruin your mood with my visit today. Please settle your family affair; I’ll take Emma and leave."
She picked up Alex, and before leaving, she spoke coldly to Mary.
"This is the last time I’m tolerating this. Otherwise, you’ll regret it."
With that, she turned and left with Alex in her arms.
James wanted to chase after them to persuade them to stay, but Elena stopped him with a shake of her head.
Elena knew that going after them now would be futile; she could only let them leave.
Cecilia was just as stubborn as her grandmother.
On the other hand, Mary was still complaining.
"Aunt, just look at her..."
Elena frowned, her voice tinged with anger.
"Enough! You all came today just to drive them away, didn’t you? What more is there to say?"
Mary said no more.
"Alice has always been under your education. I’ve told you many times not to let her develop an unruly character. Now look at the consequences."
With that, she went back to her room, no longer in the mood to eat.
James also sighed. "You both really went too far this time."
Back at the hotel, Cecilia looked at Alex, still puzzled.
"When did you learn to play the harp?"
Alex blinked his eyes. Oops, he had forgotten that Emma couldn’t do these things.
"I learned it by watching videos. I have Mommy’s talent, so I learned just by watching! Let’s eat now, Mommy. I’m really hungry~"
Cecilia was helpless. Thinking about how Emma was always studying many different things every day, she thought maybe it was a coincidence.
Just as she was about to ask for more details, she heard a commotion downstairs.
She frowned, got up, and walked to the bedside. Just as she was about to close the window, she caught sight of Frank trying to force his way into the hotel at the entrance.
‘What’s he doing here? Never mind, it’s none of my business.’
She closed the window, ready to return to the bed when her phone in the hotel room suddenly rang.
She picked up the phone, the front desk clerk’s voice echoing urgently from the other line.
"Miss Morrison, there’s a Mr. Frank Morrison downstairs looking for you, he says..."
Before she could finish, the phone was snatched away for a bit before Frank’s harsh voice suddenly came.
"Why are you wasting so much time?! Give it to me! You ungrateful daughter, how dare you block my number!"
Cecilia found him annoying and asked impatiently.
"What is it?"
It had better be something important. Otherwise, if he dared to disturb her sleep, she wouldn’t hesitate to give him a piece of her mind.
"You have the nerve to ask? How did your mother’s house become yours?!"
Cecilia understood.
It was probably thanks to Elena’s doing.
Frank had coveted that house for a long time, but since it was Lilian’s premarital property and managed by an agency, his countless attempts to claim it as his own had always ended in failure.
After Elena reunited with Cecilia, she asked her opinion regarding the house. Upon receiving her approval, Elena immediately took care of the matter.
Cecilia didn’t lack a house; she just didn’t want Lilian’s house to fall into Frank’s hands, disturbing her mother’s last bit of peace in life.
Frank found out about this news quick enough and had come to make a scene at the hotel.
"I’m telling you, return the house before you regret it!"
"Oh."
Cecilia didn’t want to explain further. She did not want to deal with it and was about to hang up the phone.
However, Frank’s frustrated words made her freeze up.
"Don’t think I don’t know why you came back. You’re here to find your son, aren’t you? Well, I’m telling you, he’s dead! He has been dead for a long time, eaten by wild beasts on the mountain, not a bone left. Give up!"
Cecilia froze on the spot.
‘Son... dead? My son is dead?’
‘Dead!’
An overwhelming pain engulfed her instantly, the phone slipping from her hand as it crashed to the ground with a bang.
Alex was startled awake by the noise.
He saw his mom crying, her expression pained as she muttered to herself.
"My son is dead, it’s all my fault... He’s dead..."
Alex quickly got off the bed and hugged her.
"Mommy, look at me. I’m not dead."
