Chapter 23: I miss Mommy

Everyone turned around; it was the director.

Sophie still exclaimed, "Your hospital lets frauds in to kill patients. You’re all going to pay for this!"

The director adjusted his glasses confidently. "This patient had a very successful surgery. You could even call it perfect."

She showed the messages on her phone from renowned doctors with a smug look. "I have multiple analyses from experts right here. Moreover, my uncle is still unconscious. He definitely won’t wake up anymore, so are you really going to cover for that quack?"

The director laughed, irritated. This woman was calling a genius doctor a fraud. He felt sorry that this patient had such a relative.

He replied, "A quack? Dr. Evan is a globally renowned genius. He has never failed any surgeries, and top universities use his cases as first-class textbooks. Despite that, you’re calling him a quack? You might want to check up on your brain with our neurology department. If there’s an issue, I can ask Miss Morrison to persuade Evan to do a brain surgery on you."

Sophie was livid. "You!"

On the other side, Mariah had already investigated Evan’s credentials on the phone, which was exactly the same as the director had described.

Sophia had to swallow her anger.

The director respectfully approached Cecilia and said, "Miss Morrison, does Dr. Evan have extra slots? It seems this lady needs serious help."

Cecilia smiled slyly. "I don’t think treatment is necessary for her."

Mariah taunted, "How could you talk about your sister like that?"

Infuriated, Frank was about to hit Cecilia. "I’ll teach you some manners, you ingrate!"

Suddenly, a few bodyguards rushed in. After a nod from the director, they slowly circled around the Morrisons.

Intimidated, Frank stopped and looked at Cecilia hatefully before leaving. Cecilia gave him a hostile gaze in turn.

The three had left, so Cecilia could finally sit down quietly and peel some fruit.

The director said with a smile, "Miss Morrison, about the conference with Evan..."

Cecilia had promised the director before the surgery that if it succeeded, she’d arrange a conference with Evan at the hospital.

She couldn’t take back her words.

She stood up and replied, "Just inform me when my uncle wakes up. I’ll go find Evan."

The director quickly nodded in agreement.

Evan had a temporary rest place in another luxury room. There, Cecilia opened the door without hesitation and walked in.

Engrossed in listening to Cecilia’s song, Evan was startled when he saw her.

He removed his headphones, unable to hide his smile. "Ready to sign?"

They had an agreement; if he agreed to treat Rick, Cecilia would sign her name on his wrist so that he could make a tattoo of it.

She casually sat down on a chair without replying. "If you do the hospital conference, I’ll sign."

Evan sighed loudly. "How can you raise the stakes like that? You know I hate attending conferences..."

She shrugged. "Well, the decision is yours."

He gritted his teeth and replied, "Fine, just this once! But you have to sign it right now."

He was worried she might take back her words.

Defeated, Cecilia picked up a nearby pen and signed her name on his wrist.

The two were very close.

Meanwhile, Sophie was in the surveillance room. She stared at the screen with bloodshot eyes, observing the two people sitting so close together.

No wonder Evan agreed to help; they had this kind of relationship. ‘Cecilia, just you wait!’

She snickered as she copied a set of the monitoring footage.

Emma had already spent the entire day working on test questions at the hotel.

She initially wanted to watch a cartoon, but Steven had woken her up early for the test questions.

Steven had his signature smile, holding a stack of math tests.

"Alex, Dad will spend the whole day with you today. Look, I even brought your favorite math tests."

Emma looked at the test questions, unable to understand why her brother liked them.

‘I miss Mommy. She’d always watch cartoons with me and make good food...’

Lost in thought, she absentmindedly drew Cecilia on the paper.

After a day of work, Steven finally went to check her progress. "Alex, how’s the test going?"

Seeing the drawings, he swallowed back his words. There was not a single question done; only drawings everywhere. Now, Steven was the confused one.

Didn’t Alex love solving math problems?

Steven flipped through the papers repeatedly, unable to believe his eyes.

To be fair, these drawings were great. However, since when did Alex have this talent?

Then, he spotted a drawing of Cecilia.

So Alex still missed her!

He sighed.

On the other hand, Alex had been watching cartoons with Edwin all day, missing his math tests dearly.

Emma secretly messaged Alex.

[Brother, I miss Mommy. Can we switch back?]

Alex replied under a minute later.

[Okay.]

After that, their plan now was to distract Edwin and Steven.

Emma pouted at Steven, who was intently studying her paper. "Daddy... I have a headache, and I feel terrible..."

As expected, Steven dropped the papers and checked her forehead with concern.

"What’s wrong? I’ll call Dr. Kent immediately."

She shook her head. "Daddy, I want the omelet you made last time."

Steven hesitated since his last attempt was quite a failure.

Soon, two of Emma’s teardrops dripped onto the paper.

"My Dear Daddy... please...?"

Steven had never been so soft-hearted. When did his son get so good at acting coy?

He tucked Emma into bed and gently said, “Alright, Dad’s going to buy some ingredients at the store. You stay here and wait for Dr. Kent.”

Emma nodded heavily.

As soon as he left, she jumped out of bed.

[Brother, I’m ready on my end. How about you?]

For Alex, it was easy. He only had to ask Edwin for some cake, and the latter would rush to buy some. He’d done this several times just to avoid watching cartoons.

Seizing this loophole, they swiftly switched places.

Emma winked mischievously at Alex. “Daddy has a surprise for you later~”

Mystified, Alex was just returning to his room when he saw Dr. Kent.

Dr. Kent was Steven and Alex’s dedicated physician, known for his rigorous work ethic and serious demeanor.

‘Uh-oh, he’ll definitely know I faked being sick!’
