Battle of attrition_4 Guard A raised his longsword, keeping an eye on the giant spiders lurking nearby, seeing his reflection in their compound eyes.

Before he closed his eyes, the giant spider raised its legs, trying to intimidate the hidden heroine.

Then he closed his eyes, and suddenly a whip-like crack pierced the air near his ears.

Opening his eyes again, the giant spider had become a figure with its eight legs splayed wide.

It was as if a huge steel whip had ripped through it from head to end, nearly tearing its body in half.

That was the mark left by Big Snake.

[Hero’s stealth attack failed, discovered]

The other giant spiders paused their movements, their glossy black eyes void of emotion, yet filled with confusion and caution.

Suddenly, one of the giant spiders bristled, almost leaping sideways like a spring.

In the next instant, a snake tail whipped against the tree beside it, smashing most of the human-hugged tree trunk, sending splinters flying.

[Guards’ Assault, Critical Success!]

With the stealth attack failed, the hero was about to vanish again; however, the death-threatened giant spiders wouldn’t let her go easily.

Six giant spiders screeched piercingly, pouncing toward the Green Snake embodiment of the hero.

“——Attack!”

But these distracted and heedless giant spiders overlooked a greater threat from the other side.

Seeing the giant spiders change their target, the guards shouted in anger and charged.

Guard A rushed before the Green Snake, fiercely swinging his buckler, first blocking a spider’s pounce, then quickly rolling and passing under another arachnid creature.

The spider’s legs stabbed like spears beside him but were always a step behind.

The spider stopped in its tracks after its attack was blocked; the hero seized the opportunity, shed her disguise, and leaped toward this giant spider.

Big Snake swiftly wrapped around the giant spider, exerting force, making the eight-legged creature scream and spurt fluids.

Then, an arrow whistled through the air.

Guard C reloaded a short bow and fired quickly, this time not in vain, as it pierced the spider’s head.

[Giant Spider B dead]

Another companion dead, the spiders grew more anxious, but their large size, conveying power and intimidation, now squeezed each other in the limited space between the trees, losing their nimbleness.

Guard A, who popped up with his buckler, maneuvered among several giant spiders, remaining unharmed.

Meanwhile, Guard B seized the moment, charging forward and slashing at the back of a giant spider with his longsword.

The sharp blade sliced the spider’s abdomen, eliciting an ear-splitting scream.

Then, the remaining four giant spiders fled.

Even Magic Creatures ultimately possessed the instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm.

This wave of assault seemed lengthy but, in truth, took only a few minutes after the hero transformed.

At first, she was stealthy, killing one with a tail swipe; then discovered, and re-coiled another one, allowing the guards to shoot it dead.

The one slashed from the back, with its abdomen split open, couldn’t keep up with its retreating companions, and the next moment got its head pierced by Guard C’s arrow.

The spiders hadn’t even touched flesh, already losing three comrades.

No matter the hunger, they realized this was an unyielding challenge beyond their capacity.

Giving up was a survival instinct; coming swiftly, leaving swiftly, the eight-legged creatures soon vanished from sight.

And the guards didn’t pursue these hasty fleeing spiders, instead nervously and vigilantly focused on the hero, who maintained her Green Snake form.

“She, she won’t attack us, right?”

More so than life-threatening danger, they feared the possible need to raise swords against the hero.

Though considering the brutalized state of the first spider, perhaps they needed to worry about their safety after all.

Yet the Green Snake just flicked her tongue, sensing the air, before casually shaking her tail and climbing back into the trees.

Unlike giant spiders, Green Snakes generally don’t eat humans, moreover, Beast Spirit Embodiments don’t need to eat at all.

It’s unclear why these humans were so wary.
