Chapter 692 - 692: The Three Disciples
After doubts and confusion, the guards started to realize Andis was not someone they could mock or toy with. Despite her delicate appearance, she held the power to slay ten beasts while they were busy fending off one, and that too in a group.
She was doing even better than their instructor did while slaying beasts that were beyond the capabilities of the mortals.
While everything was going great, Andis suddenly started frowning. Despite the tens of beasts she had slain, her body was starting to wear down.
'Are these the restrictions of being a mortal?' As her movements slowed down, the beasts were ready to pounce on her from all directions.
She defended from one side and got slashed from the other. Blood came spurting out, but she refused to scream. A Thorntail Ape nearby saw the chance and used its tail like a whip and slammed it in her stomach.
The spikes on the tail pierced her body as she was sent flying back away.
Cough!
"What!"
"How can we deal with so many beasts?"
When even someone like Andis was unable to handle the tide, the morale of the soldiers plummeted sharply.
They saw the groups of beasts charging at the woman, ready to tear her apart from all directions.
But before they could reach her, a whistling sound tore through the battlefield, and all the beasts were obliterated in the end. Andis could only watch as the beasts who were about to pounce on her were now raining down on her.
From the corner of her eyes, she caught sight of a sword gliding through the air before flowing towards its original owner.
Then came a voice filled with mocking laughter. "Junior sister seems to be in a bit of a hurry."
Woosh!
The three members of the righteous Andis she had only heard about before all appeared before her. The two men were looking at the young woman who had helped her deal with the beast and now turned her attention back to her fellow disciples.
"I am sure senior brother can sense the disturbance and the unnatural behavior of the beasts by now." She replied unhurriedly and looked towards the depths of the forests.
The spirit beasts in the area came to a halt abruptly; they moved to the side as if making way for something or someone.
Andis followed her gaze but only frowned when she sensed nothing but the other two were not alike.
They were cultivators, and they already knew what she was talking about.
And as if to support her claims, the forest moved.
A thudding voice echoed in the air.
The eyes of the three disciples narrowed as they saw something peek out of the forest.
A black, scaled, conical thing rose up beyond the trees and slammed down.
Thud!
A wave of dust blew out with the earth shaking and the trees toppling.
"A rank two spirit beast." The young man leading the group spoke with a confident smirk on his face.
The scaled body vanished, but the trembling of the ground did not stop.
"You should run away while you have the chance." The young lady warned Andis before ignoring her.
Andis bit her lips while staring at the three of them, but in the end she relented and turned away.
As she was running, an earthquake shook the area. Stumbling, she almost fell but stabilized herself and looked back only to see the ground beneath the forest uplifting.
The earth parted as if something was slithering underneath it, and… something was.
Boom!
A huge serpentine body poked its head out of the ground and glared at the humans before it.
"Earthbreak Rattlesnake." The woman identified the reddish-brown snake with gray eyes glaring at them with a single glance.
"I will be more than enough to deal with this thing." Brimming with confidence, the young man leading the group erected his fingers before his chest and commanded the three swords behind his body.
Woosh!
The swords moved like flying birds and reached the beasts almost instantly. They circled around the beast's head, attracting its attention. Annoyed, the snake shook its head and wiggled its tail to swat them away, but it failed to notice the fourth sword in the man's hand.
"Serpent Coil Strike." Taking a stance, he pointed the sword at the beast as a vague, snakelike form appeared, wrapped around the sword, and with a swift moment, he thrust his sword in the air from far away. "Deep End Bite."
Every mortal, including Andis, watched in awe as the phantom of a snake as big as Earthbreak Rattlesnake manifested from the sword and charged at it with a hiss.
The beast did not even have the time to react before the phantom snake bit its neck like a sword stabbing from four sides and killed it in one go.
Boom!
The huge body of the snake fell down on the ground, causing the sand to cloud up. The young leader retracted the swords, but not before slaying the nearby beasts with a simple swing of them.
He looked back and saw the look of fear and admiration in the eyes of the mortals. That made his chin rise even higher than the clouds.
"Hmph! Let's go back; the tide is over." He spoke domineeringly and vanished from the area. The other two disciples exchanged glances before disappearing as well.
The guards snapped out of their daze and cleaned up the area while Andis simply walked back in the direction she came from, and nobody tried to stop her. While walking, she paused, echoed in her ears. 'Come meet me at—'
The voice was like a whisper of the air, but she knew it was no hallucination of hers. After a moment of deliberation, she changed the course of her direction and started walking again.
She arrived in the area around the city lord's mansion, and instead of walking into the mansion, she walked around it and entered a luxurious-looking building nearby. She climbed the stairs and opened the door to the room at the far end of the hall.
Once she opened the door, her eyes shook for a moment before she asked, "What can I help you with?"
