Chapter 86: Controlling the attacker
Chapter 86: Controlling the attacker
Apollo approached the deserted corner, ensuring no one was around, providing the follower with the best opportunity.
The follower also seemed to notice and made his move. Instantaneously, a mysterious figure attacked Apollo from behind.
The attacker anticipated a painful outcome as his dagger moved to pierce Apollo’s back. However, his hopeful expectations vanished when Apollo turned around and effortlessly caught the dagger between two fingers, preventing it from moving an inch.
"What! How is this possible?"
The attacker couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He started to panic and wanted to run away immediately, but Apollo wasn’t about to let him escape.
He seized the man’s head as though he were a feeble child attempting to flee. The strength difference was massive; the man tried everything, but he couldn’t budge Apollo’s grip.
"Okay, stop it; it’s no use."
Apollo said in a low voice as he began to tighten his grip even further.
"Aaahh! Aaahh!"
The man felt a gruesome pain as if his skull were about to be crushed.
"No, please, stop! Stop!"
He couldn’t endure the pain any longer and started screaming with all his might to make Apollo stop.
"Shut Up! If you scream again, then I will crush your skull."
Apollo shouted, threatening to silence the man, who was now crying and screaming like a frightened cat.
Upon hearing this, the horrified man immediately stopped. Apollo, seeing this, loosened his grip.
"Now, tell me who you are and why you target me. And don’t try to hide anything; otherwise, I will make sure you feel pain worse than death."
He observed the sneaky young man, who appeared to be around nineteen or twenty years old, with ordinary facial features.
The guy fell to the ground as Apollo released his grip, feeling horrified and covered in sweat as he looked into his cold eyes.
He realized he had encountered a big boss, knowing that his life depended on the answers to the questions asked. He didn’t dare to hide anything and said all he knew.
"I’m known as Blend because I excel at hiding and blending into my surroundings. I belong to the Saber Tiger gang, which is one of the city’s four major gangs."
"I was simply following orders to follow you quietly, to possibly rob you and take care of things quietly."
"Hmm, why target me especially?" Apollo asked again coldly.
"Because you resemble a child from a noble family, yet upon entering the city, you were accompanied by two elderly servants, both frail, without any guards, and one of them even short."
"We thought you were part of the noble group that ventured into Thousand Mountain Forest to hunt but returned fleeing after the party was decimated by ferocious wild beasts."
Upon hearing this, Apollo also recalled that they bore the appearance of survivors of a disaster. They had endured many days of harsh weather conditions during their travels, which could be perceived as such from another perspective.
It could certainly result in a misunderstanding.
After pondering this, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of Master Aaron and Old Man Aragon. They would be livid once they discovered they had been mistaken for servants by those ruffians.
He looked forward to witnessing the leader of the Saber Tiger gang’s reaction upon seeing those two old men in action.
"So, it was just robbery, nothing else, no hidden reason or twisted reason, like jealousy of my handsome young face."
"No."
Blend couldn’t help but feel weird about the last few questions, but he resolutely told the truth—all he knew.
"Hmm, I guess it wasn’t some lousy scheme from a young master or anything."
Upon hearing this, he concluded that it was simply bad luck for the Saber Tiger gang—they had targeted the wrong person. Frankly, he was a bit disappointed because now that his strength had increased, he had wanted to indulge in some face-slapping, much like the ones in the novels he had read.
Now, he was in a Hunter city, not in Frostheld, where countless strong individuals roamed. While there were certainly strong individuals here as well, it didn’t quite compare to the calibre found in Frostheld City.
Having considered all this, Apollo began to weigh his options. Should he retaliate and show the Saber Tiger gang how mistaken they were to cross him, or should he let it slide?
But Apollo wasn’t one to let things slide, especially when he had been targeted. They would have to face the consequences, but first, he needed to gather information about the gang. Considering it was a gang, there had to be someone backing them, or else they would have been eradicated long ago.
He needed to ascertain the strength of their backer. If it proved to be a formidable adversary, he would have to discreetly eliminate them.
For that, he needed a spy, and the person was right in front of him.
"Come here."
Blend was afraid but slowly came close to Apollo.
Apollo then quickly touched his finger on his forehead, and immediately, a cold, soul-freezing, mysterious energy penetrated his mind.
"What!"
He shivered as an unimaginable coldness momentarily froze his body and mind.
"What did you do?"
"I did nothing; I just infused a bit of my ice energy into your spirit to prevent you from doing anything foolish."
Apollo smiled, satisfied with his success. After breaking through his limits, his spirit had become significantly stronger, capable of influencing reality. Now, to exert control over the guy before him, he used his spirit to transmit a small amount of his ice-cold life force.
Which he could detonate at any moment, instantly ending the man’s life.
"I now control your life and death, so don’t think about betraying; otherwise, your death wouldn’t be pretty."
Blend’s face was pale as he felt chills in his mind and couldn’t help but curse his bad luck to meet a big boss and lose his freedom.
Now, he can only quietly follow the orders and hope not to die suddenly.
"Your only job is to inform me of any significant developments regarding the Saber Tiger clan, particularly if they take action against me. Also, I need you to gather information on the leader’s strength and identify the silent backers supporting the gang."
Apollo told him what his job was and what to say and find information about within the gang. He nodded, as only by following the orders could he survive.
After he left the deserted corner street, Apollo stood alone with a mysterious smile on his face.
"Let’s see what happens next."
Apollo murmured to himself, then took a stroll before returning to the villa, where he found that both of them had finally woken up.
"Master and Mr. Aragon, you have finally woken up. I thought I would have to wake both of you up."
Apollo couldn’t help but comment upon seeing both of them, as he couldn’t imagine what kind of wine they had consumed to become so intoxicated.
After breaking through every limit, their bodies would evolve, making usual alcohol feel as light as water to them due to their incredibly strong immune systems.
But still, both at the third rank limit-breaker stage were drunk to the point of being senseless. No matter what, it must be a priceless wine.
"My head feels like it’s going to explode. Aragon, I told you not to drink so much."
"What nonsense are you talking about? You’re the one who drank more."
Both of them were feeling awful, as they were having some serious headaches.
"Kid, it looks like teaching you swordsmanship will have to start a little late." Master Aaron said, holding his head.
"Yes, master, it’s all right."
Apollo didn’t mind waiting a few more hours; after all, he had already waited many days. A few hours seemed insignificant in comparison.
"So, kid, it seems you ventured outside. What are your thoughts on the city?" Old Man Aragon asked, settling onto the couch as his head was still spinning.
"Hunter City is great and is full of people and prosperity, but I accidentally encountered something interesting."
"Oh! What interesting thing happened on your first day?"
Hearing this, Old Man Aragon asked, as he felt curious about the Apollo encounter.
Apollo smiled mysteriously and then told them everything that had happened when he went outside.
"What the hell, how do those puny bastards dare?"
Master Aaron, sitting beside him, couldn’t help but roar at hearing all of this. A few puny low-life gangs dare to target his disciple.
"Look like those dirtbag’s actions were getting bigger and bigger."
Old Man Aragon was also a bit surprised by the lawless behaviour of those gangs; it seems Hunter City is in a mess.
"You were right not to directly attack those gangs; there must be the hands of a noble clan behind them for them to be this bold. And dealing with a noble clan won’t be simple."
Master Aaron and Old Man Aragon agreed with Apollo’s approach to how he dealt with things, as he did a great job.
