Chapter 227: James Shocking Talent
The crowd watched with bated breath as the golden light flickered to life, then pulsed once, twice. It didn’t stop as it continued to shine a third time and slowly seemed to flicker. With a final push, the pillar finally glowed for the fourth time, shocking the audience.
"Fourth floor," the cold, mechanical voice announced. The crowd stirred in awe; she had reached the level that others had struggled to attain, becoming the first to join the fourth floor.
Even the mysterious giants standing in the sky couldn’t help but glance at Necros continent trialists.
"Finally someone decent." One of them commented while everyone silently watched without showing expression.
She stepped back, her expression as impassive as before, and the next trialist approached.
After the Necros trialist’s display, a renewed energy spread through the crowd. Though the challenge was daunting, seeing someone reach the fourth floor brought a mix of awe and a glimmer of hope to the rest. Trialists who had been disheartened were now even more determined to prove their worth.
One by one, the trialists stepped forward, but, as before, most could only muster a single light. Occasionally, a second light would flicker to life, earning brief nods of approval from the audience, but none could match the extraordinary result of the Necros contender.
The murmurs of the crowd showed some excitement whenever the pillar displayed two or three pulses, yet those moments were fleeting. The sheer difficulty of the test was becoming evident to all, especially as more powerful trialists stepped forward only to light two or three pulses.
Even some other geniuses from the Necros continent also appeared, and although most of the trialists from there were extremely strong, they still stopped at the third floor. But it seems some finally appeared who seemed to break the Necros Trialist record.
The crowd’s anticipation reached a peak when the young man from the Eastern Continent approached the Pillar of the Sky. His movements were calm yet brimming with confidence, and his presence radiated a mysterious aura that commanded attention.
But Apollo was the most surprised, as it was none other than James that he met at the Hunter City. He was like the protagonist without any backing coming from a civilian family; he surprised everyone; and even he learnt a lot through battling him and understanding his Sword Aura.
’So, he’s here too...’ Apollo thought, a faint smile playing on his lips. And it seems he’s grown far stronger. ’
Now, although he seemed to be hiding his true face using some sort of technique or treasure, he still could not hide that mysterious sword aura that he could never forget.
He truly was surprised, as there had been thousands of battles before, and hence he didn’t notice it before, but now that he appeared right in front of the Sky Pillar, he quickly noticed him. He also changed a lot in matters of strength, as he surprisingly seems to also break through the saint level.
It was worth noting that he was only seven or eight years older than him, meaning he was in his early twenties and had already become a Saint Realm warrior. With this in mind, Apollo couldn’t help but feel curious about how many times the pillar would shine for him.
James stopped in front of the Pillar of the Sky, his hand hovering over its gleaming surface. The air around him grew sharper as if his very presence could cut through the atmosphere itself.
As he touched the pillar, an intense golden light erupted, brighter than any before. The first pulse came almost instantaneously, followed by the second in quick succession, each glow illuminating the sky.
The third pulse appeared moments later, its brightness commanding silence from the audience. Many held their breath, anticipating whether he could go further.
Apollo’s eyes narrowed as he observed James’ energy surge into the pillar, a hint of Sword Aura blending into the golden radiance.
The crowd erupted into gasps and murmurs as the fourth pulse burst forth, steady and brilliant. But the spectacle wasn’t over.
The pillar trembled faintly, a rare occurrence so far in the test. Then, with a sharp flash, the fifth pulse ignited, its radiance surpassing all the previous glows combined.
The fifth light flared forth, eliciting an audible gasp from the audience.
The pillar shimmered and trembled, as though struggling to contain the overwhelming force James was pouring into it. A moment later, the sixth pulse illuminated the sky, surpassing anything anyone had seen thus far.
The mysterious figures in the sky, who had remained calm and detached, now glanced at each other in slight surprise.
As the seventh light blazed to life, the crowd erupted into chaos.
"Seven pulses?!" Someone exclaimed. "Is that even possible?"
Apollo watched intently, his expression unreadable, but inwardly, his excitement grew. ’This is the James I remember. ’No, he’s even stronger now’.
The pillar’s radiance seemed to falter momentarily as if it had reached its limit. The crowd held their breath, waiting to see if it would go further.
And then, with an earth-shattering burst, the eighth pulse erupted, its brilliance surpassing all the previous lights combined. The golden glow engulfed the entire arena, bathing the trialists and spectators in its divine radiance.
"Eighth floor," the cold, mechanical voice finally announced.
The crowd fell into stunned silence. No one had expected this.
Even the Domain Lord and great mysterious leaders in the sky exchanged glances, their composed exteriors betraying hints of intrigue and approval.
"An eighth-floor trialist... fascinating," one of them remarked.
"Such talent is rare, even in eras past," another added, his gaze fixed on James.
The dozen leaders standing in the sky were truly shocked, as even though they were only able to reach the seventh floor during their time, they can be said to be the peak of their world, standing tall above all. But now James suddenly surpassed them.
Currently, here only the Domain Lord Victor is the one who reached the eighth floor. And which is why he was quickly able to become Domain master.
James stepped away from the pillar, his expression as calm and composed as when he had approached. Despite the awe and admiration directed at him, he gave no indication of pride or arrogance.
Apollo’s lips curled into a slight smile. "He’s reached the eighth floor..."
The crowd was still murmuring in shock as the next trialist stepped forward, but the arena had been marked by James’ extraordinary performance. His name would now echo through the ranks of the trialists as one of the most exceptional contenders in this generation.
Most were shocked because the performance of James wasn’t too eye-catching; even if few had seen him fight, it wasn’t impressive as there was no name of James among those rankings made by trialists. But he still surpassed everyone, showing such a shocking result.
James’ awe-inspiring performance seemed to light a fire in the remaining trialists. The once-muted tension in the crowd transformed into a roaring wave of determination. Trialists who had hesitated now surged forward, their competitive spirits ignited by the sight of someone reaching the eighth floor.
Trialist after trialist placed their hands on the golden pillar, the arena erupting in bursts of light. While most still only managed to light one or two pulses, the frequency of higher results began to rise.
A young Elf mage stepped forward next. His presence was calm, like a glacier in the midst of chaos. As his hand touched the pillar, a cold aura spread and the light responded with steady, rhythmic pulses.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
The crowd cheered as the fourth light shone brightly, making him the second trialist to reach that level.
Next, a dual-saber wielder from southern approached. His movements were sharp, his blades strapped tightly to his back. As he touched the pillar, the lights pulsed fiercely, almost violently.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four!
And just as the crowd thought he was done—Five! The fifth pulse erupted, drawing gasps and applause.
"These geniuses are finally stepping forward!" Someone in the audience exclaimed.
One by one, the latent talents revealed themselves. A fiery-tempered trialist from the volcanic ridge of the southern continent reached the fourth floor with his talent. A scholar-looking guy from the eastern continent again lit up five pulses, his mastery of spiritual arts clear in the glowing energy that surrounded him.
Even those on the sidelines, initially discouraged by the earlier results, began to feel their spirits lift.
Trialists began to push themselves harder, believing that perhaps they, too, could achieve greatness. The mysterious figures in the sky watched with subtle satisfaction.
"It seems Rion might produce more geniuses this era than the last," the Domain Lord murmured, sitting quietly, as he observed the test.
Apollo stood silently, observing as trialists stepped forward, their results varying from modest to exceptional. He could feel the energy in the arena shifting, becoming more charged with determination.
Finally, it was his master’s turn, who was also calm and steadily walked to the pillar. Unlike the other trialists, who approached with either hesitation or fervent determination, Master Aaron’s every step exuded unshakeable confidence.
