Chapter 222: Surprising Opponent
"Begin!" the voice from above commanded.
In an instant, the beast charged, a hulking mass of muscle and fury, its claws slashing through the air with terrifying speed. But that wasn’t all, as the dark power released from its body seemed to add to the destructive power, making it claw to tear space and reach a terrifying level.
Its speed also increased quite a lot, making it a difficult enemy for anyone.
Master Aaron’s expression was serious, as he knew the opponent could be taken easily; he needed to be careful.
He also seemed to turn into lightning and, with his sword, moved at terrifying speed to match his opponent. Both figures became blurry, but it was clear Master Arron was faster, whereas his opponent was stronger.
They each have their advantages, but they seem unable to overwhelm one another as they continue to clash.
Boom! Boom! Boom!...
The arena resounded with a relentless symphony of thunderous impacts, each clash between Master Aaron and the beast sending shockwaves rippling through the air. Afterimages of lightning and shadow streaked across the battlefield as the two combatants pushed their limits, their strengths a stark contrast yet perfectly matched.
But it didn’t last for long; slowly the difference started to appear as their understanding of laws and control over their strength began to show the difference between them.
Master Aaron’s form was a flickering storm of energy, his lightning-infused body darting around the beast’s attacks with hair-trigger precision. His movements were refined, every strike honed for efficiency, and his sword crackling with arcs of lightning and thunder as it lashed out with destructive intent seemed to be gaining a slight upper hand.
Although the beast, however, was no mere brute. With each failed swipe, it adjusted, its immense strength tempered by an unexpected agility. The dark aura surrounding it grew thicker and sharper, augmenting its already monstrous power and allowing it to tear at the very layers of space.
Still, there was a difference in understanding and experience, not to mention that Master Aaron was a master swordsman, making him stronger and an expert in dealing with opponents who were usually stronger than him using his exquisite swordsmanship. He seemed to be probing, testing the beast’s weaknesses as they traded blow for blow.
A split-second opening appeared as the beast jumped, its overextended claws slicing through empty space. In that heartbeat of vulnerability, Aaron unleashed a move he’d been carefully holding back. His form vanished, reappearing high above with his sword raised, now fully charged with a blinding, concentrated bolt of lightning.
His sword aura, which seemed to have reached the sword domain level, and his lighting law domain seem to converge to become a brand new sword move that he seems to have created after coming to the tower of the sky.
"Thunder Storm Annihilation."
In an instant, he descended, his sword striking downward with the force of a celestial lightning bolt. The sword cut through the beast’s dark aura as if it were mist, piercing deep and unleashing a torrent of lightning that burst through the creature’s form. Thunder roared across the arena as Aaron’s strike landed with unparalleled precision and power.
The opponent beast’s roar echoed, but it was one of agony, its mighty figure collapsing under the onslaught. A ripple of shock passed through the crowd as they watched the battle, as a surprising outcome unfolded.
Master Aaron landed gracefully, although he was breathing heavily and his eyes glinting with the satisfaction of a worthy battle.
This was an interesting battle; even though it was not the most fabulous battle on this grand stage, it wasn’t a bad display by someone who isn’t a saint.
After Master Aaron, many others also came, whether it was Mistress Alyona, Idris from Rrioweth, or even Sol. They all had their first battle, but maybe because of luck or other matters, they all won their first battle.
But it wasn’t much, and the battle continued, with some won and some lost. Apollo also fought two more battles, but it was just a one-sided match that ended in a single shot.
In their group, only Sol lost, and thankfully he saved his life as he quickly admitted his defeat. But the rest maintained their winning streak of three wins; although it wasn’t as easy as Apollo, they still felt proud.
As time passed, trialists gained a general understanding of each other’s strengths, and many quickly started to create rankings of the strongest based on what they had observed. This ranking soon became the most talked-about topic among trialists from all continents.
Discussions about potential top fighters filled every corner of the waiting areas and spectator spaces, excitement sparking between friends and rivals alike. Apollo’s name appeared consistently in the upper echelons, with trialists from various races and continents already recognising his extraordinary prowess.
The ranking conversations quickly became the most popular topic, crossing borders and rivalries as contenders took stock of each other. Each fight, every display of power and skill, fuelled the growing sense of anticipation.
Trialists kept a close eye on potential adversaries, studying strengths and weaknesses, waiting for the next clash that might determine the true pinnacle of power among them.
Apollo was also interested in some names that appeared in the conversation, as they were really strong. As he focused on the murmurs, he felt a spark of excitement—these were opponents who, perhaps, would challenge him to bring out the depths of his power.
Among them was Seraphine of the Glacial Sea, a mage from the Northern Continent known for her mastery of the Heavy Water Domain.
Kiro the Shadowfang - A Night Panther beastman from the southern jungles, Kiro is a fierce predator with speed and stealth unlike any other. He can hide himself perfectly even in the presence of strong half-gods.
Lyra of the Starwind - Hailing from the Skyborne clan, a rare race with ethereal wings and a connection to mysterious energies, Lyra’s strength lies in her control over the winds and starlight.
Thalor, the Stormbringer - A towering warrior from the Beast Clan, known to possess the bloodline of an ancient thunder beast.
Xalith, the Void Warden - From a rare alien race known as the Voidwalkers, Xalith possesses an eerie innate mastery over space and its distortion.
Eldara of the Verdant Glade - A nature mage from the Elven race, Eldara is renowned for her mastery over plants and her connection with ancient forest spirits.
They were just a few of them, as there were as many as hundreds of such people who also showed unimaginable strength, and one shot their opponents, making it difficult to measure their true strength, not to mention the weirdos from Neckros confident, not a single one of them yet still haven’t lost a battle.
But it wasn’t just the challengers from far-off lands. Even here, within the Eastern Continent, dozens stood out, warriors whose strength defied conventional limits. These individuals had honed unique and fearsome skills; their power and presence were a testament to years of ruthless training and battle-hardened experience.
At that time, Apollo’s turn came again, as this was his fourth battle. He quickly teleported to the arena. And the moment he appeared, it attracted quite a lot of attention, as his name also became famous due to his last three performances.
But when his opponent appeared, it caused a sensation—his challenger was none other than a trialist from the Necros continent, a region whose representatives had yet to suffer a single loss.
The battle instantly became the centre of attention, as it was the first to capture such widespread interest among trialists from all five continents because this was the battle between two very strong opponents.
Whispers swept through the crowd. Trialists who had previously regarded the battle as a simple display of Apollo’s strength were now entirely captivated, drawn by the thrill of witnessing him confront one of Necros’s undefeated champions.
Apollo’s previous victories had been decisive, earning him admiration and caution alike. Yet the Necros trialists were shrouded in shadow and legend, their strength an enigma, as none had yet been pushed to reveal their limits.
His opponent stood across from him—a Necros warrior cloaked in flowing, midnight robes, a subtle aura of darkness weaving around them like living shadows. Beneath the hood, cold, piercing eyes regarded Apollo, assessing, unblinking, as if they could see beyond the physical and peer into the very core of his power.
He also looked at the Necros warrior with interest, as he, in fact, has a connection with them, so he was surprised when his opponent appeared to be them, but he wasn’t anxious or anything; no matter who he faced, he believes now he can win.
As the arena quieted, the announcer’s voice cut through the tension. "Begin!"
But neither moved. A silent stand-off ensued, their auras colliding and sparking invisible currents in the air as if even reality trembled in anticipation.
Both stared each other down as if an invisible battle had already begun. Their auras instantly filled the arena, colliding with such force that tremors rippled through the ground.
The trialists in the crowd watched in awe. Even with a barrier between them, they could feel the immense pressure, as though the weight of the world itself was bearing down on them.
Boom!
The collision sent powerful, space-trembling shockwaves outward, pushing both fighters. Yet, when the dust settled, Apollo remained standing, while the trialist from Necros had been forced back a few meters—marking Apollo’s victory in their first clash.
