Chapter 173: Azure Dragon World(Part-2)
The aftermath of the battle left the world in ruins. The once abundant heaven and earth aura, the life-giving energy that nourished all living beings, was drastically diminished. Even more devastating was the residual aura of death left behind by the invader. It polluted the land, corrupting its essence.
The once vibrant, green planet, teeming with life and energy, had now become a desolate wasteland. The skies were perpetually overcast with a gloomy, oppressive atmosphere, and the land was stained with death and desolation. What had been a thriving world was now a shadow of its former self, struggling to recover from the catastrophic battle.
The place we are now is Death Desert, which covers twenty-five per cent of the land of Azure Dragon World. But thankfully, beyond this desert, there are still places that haven’t fully turned into desolate wastelands.
There are only two continents in this world. The land they stand on, known as the Fallen God Continent, was the most damaged during the war, bearing the brunt of the destruction. Its landscapes are scarred with deep wounds from the ancient conflict, and the once-thriving lands now suffer under the weight of desolation and death.
The other continent, Dragonair, remained relatively in better condition due to the powerful means used by the dragon clans, who have the blood of the great azure dragon god. It is said to be a land of prosperity, where the remnants of the world’s life force still flourish.
Although things seemed to be progressing well, finding the Tomb of the Outer God was proving to be more complicated than anticipated. Given the circumstances, the tomb would likely be located on the Fallen God Continent, where most of the destruction had occurred.
However, there was no certainty. The possibility that the tomb could be hidden on the Dragonair continent, far from desolation and destruction, remained. If that were the case, it might be a deliberate ploy to keep others from ever discovering its true location.
Both continents were vast, though perhaps not as expansive as Rion. Still, when combined, the Fallen God and Dragonair continents would rival the size of the Eastern Continent. The thought of finding a single tomb within such a massive area was daunting. It wouldn’t be an easy task, not by any measure.
The tomb could be hidden anywhere, and without a clear lead, it felt like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Others were also trying to learn as much as they could and were not wasting time. Apollo also continued and then looked at information about powerful forces and clans on both continents.
Most of the strongest forces resided on the Dragonair Continent, with the undisputed rulers being the pure-blooded dragon race. Their power was unmatched, making them the dominant force in the world. Other powerful races also thrived there, each with their own unique strengths, but the dragons stood above all.
Humans, although not as dominant as they were on Rion, still held their own in this world. As the most populous race, they had managed to carve out a strong position for themselves, surviving amidst the fierce competition from other powerful beings. Despite not being overlords here, humans were resilient enough to persist and thrive.
Naturally, the Crimson City, where he was also a human city, was why they didn’t face major problems like discrimination. If it was a city from another race, they might not be able to enter the city in such a situation.
The death desert where they are is a kind of chaotic place, with various tribes surviving here in such harsh conditions. The strongest force here is actually an alliance of cities.
There are a total of forty-nine cities within the Fallen God continent, loosely connected through a fragile alliance. However, contradictions between these cities arise frequently, either due to racial differences or various other reasons. Despite this lack of unity, the alliance remains strong for one reason—the presence of a single, enigmatic figure.
This figure is none other than the City Lord of Chaos City, a place that was renowned even during the world-destroying war and still stands unshaken. His power and influence are what hold the alliance together, making him the most mysterious and powerful person on the continent.
As not much is known about him even during the war, he remained quite mysterious, and the only sure thing is that he was very strong, at least in the top three in the world; even the proud pure-blood dragons didn’t dare mess with Chaos City, which is also why it is the centre of the continent.
After learning this, Apollo knew what their next destination had to be. Whether it was to gather more knowledge or to visit other key locations, they needed to go to Chaos City. They didn’t find anything related to the outer god here.
Not only was it a hub of power, but it was also connected to nearly every important place in the Azure Dragon World through its extensive network of teleportation portals that spanned the entire continent. This city would undoubtedly be the best starting point for their next steps.
All of them read for a day and night and learned what they wanted to learn from numerous books and left the Crimson City silently.
Their destination was clear: Chaos City. The journey was long, and although they could fly, doing so over such vast distances was still taxing, even for grandmasters. Instead, they chose to travel by land, maintaining a swift pace.
After three days and nights of relentless travel, they crossed the Death Desert, a barren land scattered with ruins and the remnants of small oases destroyed by time and conflict. The journey took them through several wasteland cities, scarred by the destruction of the death storm.
Finally, they approached Chaos City, where the vibrant energy of life was palpable even from a distance. People from all corners of the continent streamed in, and the city’s bustling atmosphere was a stark contrast to the desolation they had just traversed.
They quickly joined the crowd, as they didn’t stand too much here as there were all kinds of people from all over the place.
To enter the city, they needed to pay with life essence stones, which they thankfully received—several hundred—from City Lord Rex as a token of gratitude. In the land of Rion, life essence stones also exist, but they are considered rare treasures.
From the history of this world, it could be called a young world. Even after such intense battles and destruction, natural resources like life essence stones still remain abundant.
In contrast, Rion is an ancient world. Before the Divine Era, much of its history was unknown, even to the ancient forces. However, it is known that there were civilizations before that era. Because Rion is so old, even though it is many times larger, most of its rare natural resources have either been exhausted or have become extinct.
After paying the toll, they without any problem, entered the city with the crowd. The Chaos City was fabulous, but what made them feel different was how countless races were present in the same place. Even Frostheld City visited by Apollo pales in that comparison.
The group decided not to wander around but headed straight to a nearby restaurant. After travelling for three days and nights without rest, they were in desperate need of a break. They indulged in a hearty meal and took the time to refresh themselves, enjoying a much-needed respite from their relentless journey.
They, after all that, then headed to the Chaos City Guard Pavilion. Knowing they were going to visit Chaos City, City Lord Rex had given them a letter of introduction. Through this letter, they could meet with his friend, an official in Chaos City, who could assist them in their research about the Outer God Anaric.
They were quickly directed to a separate hall upon presenting the letter. It was addressed to Paul, a high-ranking officer in Chaos City and also a deacon of the City Alliance.
Paul appeared to be a simple old man with a large white beard. Though he wasn’t particularly imposing, he was a saint, and his strength was significant, though not on the level of City Lord Rex.
"I see Rex mentioned you were looking into old secrets and history," Old Paul said, reading the letter and examining Apollo and the others. "I can’t assist with the deepest secrets, but you can access the first and second floors of the archives. If you can’t find what you’re looking for there, it may not be available anywhere else.
Our City of Chaos holds some of the oldest and most comprehensive records, even compared to the Dragon Race."
He then produced a token and handed it to them. "Take this. It will grant you access to the city archives." They accepted the token with gratitude.
Apollo, Kaleb, and others thanked and left as they quickly wanted to find out about the Tomb of Anaric.
