Chapter 106: Power of Book of Death(part-1)
Apollo moved forward, each step feeling like an eternity, until he finally reached the source of the mysterious calling. His entire being was drawn to the Book of Death, an object emanating an overwhelming aura of death and despair.
As he approached, an uncontrollable force surged within him, and he felt his body begin to transform.
He couldn’t resist the transformation into his Half-Demon God form. His muscles, tissues, and cells expanded exponentially, causing his height to increase rapidly. His eyes and hair changed; the silvery white strands were now streaked with black.
The change was as terrifying as it was awe-inspiring, imbuing him with a primal, raw power that seemed to resonate with the very essence of the Book of Death.
Meanwhile, Arktane was grappling with his inner turmoil as he navigated the dark, death-filled abyss. He pressed forward, determined to claim the Book of Death for himself. However, a strange sensation washed over him, causing him to pause. The law of death within his mind trembled as if acknowledging a presence far greater than his own—a king that governed the law of death itself.
Panic surged through Arktane. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He quickened his pace, desperation fueling his every step as he tried to reach the Book of Death before it was too late.
In the darkness, the Book of Death seemed to react to Apollo’s presence. Its pages glowed with an eerie light, the dark tendrils of energy reaching out like fingers, probing the air around them.
Apollo, fully transformed into his Half-Demon God form, felt the book’s pull intensify. His connection to the law of death became clearer and more profound. It was as if he was meant to wield this power, to control the very essence of death itself.
The understanding of the Law of Death began to increase at an extremely rapid rate—1%, 2%,... 9%,... 20%. It didn’t stop until it reached twenty per cent. Such a surge was overwhelming; he felt like the ruler of death, able to control anyone’s demise. The power was so intoxicating that he nearly lost himself in the sensation, feeling like a god.
Mysterious knowledge began to appear in his mind—things he had never learned before. He now understood what this legendary book was—the Book of Death. He also discovered some of its secrets and how to use them.
Arktane, now within sight of the book, felt the ground beneath him tremble. He saw Apollo standing before the book, the power radiating from him was unmistakable. "No!" Arktane screamed, his voice filled with rage and fear. "You cannot take what is rightfully mine!"
Apollo noticed him. If it had been any other place or time, he might have run away as fast as he could, not caring about anything else. He had witnessed the battle in the sky, and even now, he could see and feel the enormous power and the aura of death and dark energy emanating from him.
This being wasn’t even human; the figure before him was a monster with an inhumane nature. Apollo knew he couldn’t stand a chance, even with his Half-Demon God transformation. But the situation is different now. He had the Book of Death, which must have been the reason for the attack on the city to summon it.
The entire battle, the countless lives lost, the destruction—it had all been orchestrated to bring forth this ultimate power.
Apollo turned to face Arktane, his eyes glowing with an eerie, otherworldly light. "The book chose me. Your time is over."
His frustration and desperation fueled his every move. He gathered his dark energy, drawing from the depths of his necromantic powers. Dark tendrils of energy snaked through the air, converging on Apollo with lethal intent.
But Apollo, now deeply connected to the Law of Death through the Book of Death, raised his hand. The dark energy stopped in its tracks, absorbed into the icy aura surrounding him.
Seeing this, Arktane’s face grew pale with anger as he clearly felt that the Book of Death had indeed chosen him as its master, allowing him to control its power.
However, it also allowed him to see that the figure in front of him wasn’t as strong as he was. Although Arktane couldn’t discern exactly what the figure was, it was clear it wasn’t human.
Standing twenty feet tall with a strange aura akin to that of godlike beings, observing Apollo in his Half-Demon God form led Arktane to believe he wasn’t human either; in this form, Apollo seemed closer to being a god than a mere human.
But since he sensed that Apollo’s strength was weaker than his, it gave him hope. "No matter who or what you are, the Book of Death is mine, and nobody can stop me."
Apollo’s grip tightened on the book. He could feel its power coursing through him—a dark and cold energy that promised ultimate control over life and death. Yet he also felt a pull, a temptation to lose himself in that power and become like Arktane, but he resisted with his strong mind and spirit.
"Then why don’t you try, instead of talking and crying like a baby who lost something?" Apollo taunted sarcastically, knowing that the battle was inevitable.
Arktane’s sneer turned into a snarl. "I’ll take it from your corpse."
In an instant, Arktane lunged at Apollo, his dark energy crackling around him like a storm. Apollo raised the Book of Death, channelling its power—a shield of death energy formed around him, absorbing the impact of Arktane’s attack.
The force of their clash sent shockwaves through the battlefield covered in darkness, shaking the ground and toppling what remained of the city.
Many warriors and beasts within the darkness felt the shockwave that sent them flying, rendered nearly immobile by the mysterious power that seemed to slowly absorb their life force.
Only Apollo and Arktane the Lich could move, their understanding of the Law of Death allowing them to navigate the darkness that covered the city, suppressing all other means of resistance, even other laws.
The City Lord, the Hunter Guild President, Master Aaron, and any other grandmaster who understood the laws couldn’t move freely either. The Law of Death, being a high-ranking law, suppressed all other laws within the darkness. They could only focus all their strength on stopping the depletion of their life force and essence.
On the other side, the battle between the two has begun.
Apollo’s mind raced as he was covered in death energy. He couldn’t let Arktane get close. He needed to use the Book of Death to fully harness its power. With a deep breath, he focused on the connection he felt with the book, letting its energy guide him.
"Death Freeze," Apollo whispered, summoning his strength. His eyes gleamed with a cold, blue light, resonating with the icy life force within him. He combined this power with the dark energy of the Book of Death, creating a new, formidable energy—an icy death power that was a potent mixture of his semi-divine strength and the pure death energy from the book.
The ground around Apollo froze, the air crackling with the intensified power. The new icy death energy was many times stronger, a chilling force that could halt even the most formidable foes in their tracks.
Arktane, the Lich Lord, felt the shockwave of Apollo’s power but refused to be underestimated. Drawing on his centuries of dark magic, he summoned an army of undead henchmen.
From the depths of the spell circle, hundreds of dark creatures crawled up, their hollow eyes fixed on Apollo. They moved with a single purpose: to overwhelm and destroy the young warrior.
The battlefield became a chaotic storm of dark energy and icy blasts. Countless dark tendrils lashed out at Apollo, seeking to ensnare him and drain his life force. Apollo countered with blasts of icy death energy, freezing the tendrils in mid-air and shattering them into shards of black ice.
The undead army surged forward, a relentless tide of skeletal warriors, shadowy wraiths, and monstrous abominations.
Apollo’s sword, Ice Star, grew to fit his current size perfectly and flashed through the air, cutting down the undead with deadly precision. Each swing of his blade was imbued with the combined power of his icy life force and the Book of Death, leaving a trail of frozen corpses in his wake.
Despite his efforts, the sheer number of undead was overwhelming. Arktane watched from the shadows, his eyes glowing with malevolent glee. He could see Apollo beginning to tire, the relentless onslaught taking its toll.
"You cannot win, boy!" Arktane’s voice echoed across the battlefield. "The power of the Book of Death is beyond your comprehension. It belongs to me!"
Although the Book of Death bridged the massive gap between them, the Lich was cunning and a challenging adversary. He used his undead monsters to wear Apollo down, patiently waiting for him to exhaust his energy or make a fatal mistake.
And it wasn’t easy to wield such a divine treasure with his current strength. If any other first-rank limit breaker were to attempt it, they would have been drained instantly, even before activating it. However, Apollo could manage it due to his Half-Demon God body.
