Chapter 405: Fat Chicken
Chapter 405: Fat Chicken
Since he had begun practicing the Primordial Spirit Sword Nourishment, Qin Sang’s sole aim had been to gather as much spiritual wood as possible so that the ebony sword would never be the limiting factor of his art.
When Wandering Man spoke of these secrets, Qin Sang had always regarded them as mere legends and dared not indulge in any wishful thinking.
Indeed, the Ten Divine Woods had existed only in legend—at least, they were not something a Foundation Building cultivator like him could ever covet.
Perhaps only after he had formed his Golden Core would he have dared to entertain such thoughts.
Fate, however, was unpredictable; at that moment, a piece of Infinite Blood Mulberry Wood had unexpectedly appeared before him!
Qin Sang had gazed at the wood with mesmerized eyes, feeling the potent aura emanating from the Infinite Blood Mulberry Wood, and his heart had resonated with only six characters. It lived up to its name!
This piece of Infinite Blood Mulberry Wood was clearly unrefined.
Had the ebony sword been able to devour this wood, there was no doubt that it would have undergone a complete transformation—leaping in one fell swoop into the ranks of astra and even acquiring a formidable supernatural ability.
Suppressing the urgency in his heart, Qin Sang struggled to shift his gaze away from the Infinite Blood Mulberry Wood and turned instead toward the other half of the jade pool.
There, amid red pool water that resembled molten lava, a single white root emerged from within, its slender tendril as pristine as jade—a sight far from ordinary.
However, the stem and leaves atop that root had vanished, leaving only a segment of the main root standing alone in the pool, its broken end bearing unmistakable gnaw marks!
Seeing this, Qin Sang’s eyes narrowed in concentration. After a moment’s contemplation, he stepped forward abruptly, then suddenly sensed something and lifted his head swiftly to look toward the lightning orb.
He happened to see surging lightning within the lightning orb—several slender bolts broke free from its confines!
Once free of the lightning orb, those lightning bolts, as fine as strands of hair, immediately swelled to the thickness of an arm and, amid deafening thunderclaps, struck fiercely at the spot where Qin Sang had hidden.
The cave dwelling trembled, and the lightning flashed brilliantly.
Qin Sang had clearly been on high alert; he planted his foot heavily and retreated explosively.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he moved, a sudden gust arose from his right side, and he caught sight of a silver, rotund shadow rushing in—a flash of movement that seemed all too familiar.
"Lightning Evasion!"
Qin Sang immediately recalled the scene he had just witnessed: the Lightning-Devouring Falcon had executed Lightning Evasion, using only its flesh to force the black-robed man out of hiding.
He thought to himself. Just as expected!
Having observed the jade pool, the lightning orb, and the white debris within, he felt that this arrangement was exceedingly peculiar, like a nest that nurtured something.
Moreover, the partially devoured unidentified spiritual herb added to the mystery.
Qin Sang was almost certain that hidden within the cave dwelling lay a juvenile Lightning-Devouring Falcon!
He already knew that the Lightning-Devouring Falcon’s eyes of lightning could pierce through invisibility.
No wonder the falcon risked its life battling the two Spiritual Infant experts; it had been nurturing its fledgling. Fragments still remained in the lightning orb, suggesting that the fledgling had only just hatched, and thus Qin Sang was not afraid.
But what he did not expect was that the juvenile Lightning-Devouring Falcon could manipulate the lightning within the lightning orb—its power far exceeded his predictions!
"Rise!"
Having just dodged the attack unleashed by the lightning orb and with his strength nearly spent, Qin Sang had no time to continue evading and was forced to engage head-on.
He roared mightily and activated the Yan Luo Array of Ten Directions he had prepared long ago.
Faced with the Lightning Evasion of the Lightning-Devouring Falcon, he dared not be careless; the fate of the black-robed man was still vivid in his mind, and even a Spiritual Infant cultivator once proved unable to withstand the falcon’s might, falling into grave peril.
As soon as the array unfolded, its banners shielded Qin Sang inside, and the Lightning-Devouring Falcon unleashed its Lightning Evasion to charge in, narrowly colliding with the array.
Boom!
The yin qi of the Yan Luo Array collided with the Lightning Evasion, with yin qi and lightning devouring each other, and the array showed signs of disintegration.
Within the array, the banners swirled restlessly, their fabric flapping fiercely.
The primary soul roared, its bellow shaking the cave dwelling as it exerted every ounce of strength to counter the impact of the Lightning Evasion.
Inside the array, Qin Sang grunted as his qi and blood surged, and his figure retreated several steps. Having barely regained his footing, he hurriedly stabilized the array, secretly filled with dread.
When the aftershocks subsided, Qin Sang—still hidden within the Yan Luo Array—dared not reveal himself. Through gaps in the yin qi, he saw a falcon appear, standing on one leg at the edge of the jade pool.
This falcon was not exactly majestic; it looked more like a fat chicken.
Its feathers did not shine brightly but were merely tufts of pale yellow, and even its small, pointed beak was a tender yellow. In its mouth, it clutched a small piece of white eggshell.
The fat chicken’s body puffed up with down, its fuzzy form resembling a yellow sphere that looked utterly harmless, and even somewhat cute.
Caw-caw...
Its little beak began to move.
Inside the cave dwelling, a crisp chewing sound echoed. The eggshell, which had remained unscathed within the lightning orb, proved extremely fragile in the fat chicken’s beak and was easily crushed.
Chirp-chirp...
As the fat chicken chewed on the eggshell, its eyes suddenly widened, and its two claws tightly gripped the edge of the jade pool as it emitted a sharp, hurried cry.
Qin Sang’s expression changed subtly, and he grew silently wary. He then noticed that the creature had turned its head and pecked at the spiritual spring behind it. After that, it raised its neck high, hopped about, and diligently flapped its disproportionately small, fleshy wings.
Then, with a throaty heave, it swallowed the eggshell along with some spring water, and its cry became noticeably cheerful.
Qin Sang was dumbfounded. Did it nearly choke? Eating while using the water of the spiritual spring is extravagantly indulgent.
After swallowing the eggshell, the fat chicken relaxed, tilting its little head contentedly. Its round, bright eyes, filled with a hint of confusion and curiosity, openly scrutinized Qin Sang.
Qin Sang felt that the creature regarded him as a plaything.
Who would have thought, looking at its adorably clumsy appearance, that it would eventually grow into a majestic Lightning-Devouring Falcon—one that battled two Spiritual Infant cultivators and unleashed tremendous divine might?
Qin Sang’s lips twitched. A juvenile Lightning-Devouring Falcon looks like this!
Judging by its appearance, it had clearly just hatched.
Observing its adorably clumsy appearance, one might have had their heart melted by those big, innocent eyes, but Qin Sang found nothing endearing about the fat chicken; instead, he felt a sense of dread.
Though the fat chicken had only just hatched, it had already attained the peak of the Demonic Spirit Realm, no less than Yu Hua.
This was entirely natural—a demonic beast with a powerful bloodline possessed innate, terrifying strength from birth.
Moreover, the spiritual herb that the Lightning-Devouring Falcon had planted in the cave dwelling was no ordinary matter; it was likely prepared meticulously for its fledgling. Thus, when the fat chicken consumed the herb, it broke through the peak of the Demonic Spirit Realm in one bound, which was hardly surprising.
The peak of the Demonic Spirit Realm was not inherently formidable, and the fat chicken appeared extremely inexperienced; in real combat, it might not be able to unleash its full strength.
The most terrifying aspect, however, was that it could manipulate the power of the lightning orb!
That lightning orb had surely been left by the adult Lightning-Devouring Falcon to incubate and protect its fledgling. With the fat chicken controlling the lightning orb, even a Golden Core cultivator had to tread carefully.
Qin Sang’s gaze then passed over the fat chicken and rested on the Infinite Blood Mulberry Wood lying in the spiritual spring.
He clenched his hand; the demonic fire within his Crimson Core had nearly burned through half, and he had little time remaining. He had to leave before the demonic fire was completely consumed. Otherwise, he would be forced to remain in the cave dwelling forever.
He wondered how the adult Lightning-Devouring Falcon would treat him upon its return.
Whether he ended up as the fat chicken’s meal or merely as a plaything was an outcome Qin Sang absolutely dreaded.
