Chapter 98: Most Artistic Battle?
Chapter 98: Most Artistic Battle?
The next morning, as it wasn’t a tournament day, they took the day off to perfect their team skills. They studied and tested coordination and strategies for many hours.
As a result, Elliot’s statistics did not improve. In fact, he only earned one point in Sense all day, which he added without hesitation, bringing his Sense to 25.
Despite the high-intensity battle he had fought the day before, he hadn’t won a single point, which was unfortunate and unusual.
The day passed quietly and uneventfully.
The next morning was tournament day.
Like every tournament day, the city woke up in high spirits. Local television channels began discussing the tournament, the latest fights, and the event’s progress. They also made predictions and so on.
Obviously, they haven’t forgotten about the two MVPs of the day so far. The first was Jenna, a stranger in the city, but whose roots are said to be in Agora.
On the other hand, the second MVP so far, who has fewer MVP points than Jenna because he had only participated in one of the two matches he had played, was the Soul Mage of the Elemental Academy, Thomas.
He was a relative unknown, but he was born in Loen City. The Elemental Academy had been secretly training him all this time, and this was his first public appearance.
His exact origins are unknown, but he may come from a noble family in the city.
Between those two, things could change today regarding who takes the lead among the MVPs. Winning two MVPs in a row would be an incredible feat, which would also give him a few more points, so even with another MVP the next day of the tournament, Jenna may not be able to catch up.
What’s more, Thomas was currently participating in the Winners Bracket final (the first Small Final), where an MVP would earn him additional points.
Thomas had the opportunity today to take a lead that would be difficult to overcome.
To put this into context, each MVP earns a score of 100. Second place earns 50, and third place earns 25.
In this case, Jenna won the MVP on the first day, earning 100 points, and the next day, she earned 50 points, putting her at the top of the list with 150 points.
Now, Thomas did not participate in the first match, so he did not earn any points that day. He has accumulated 100 points after winning the MVP that day, which puts him in second place.
Surprisingly, next to him is Elliot, who received 50 points on both the first and second days, and Andrew, whose participation and importance in both matches earned him 50 points on each occasion.
If Jenna wins today’s match, she will receive another 100 points, bringing her total to 250, a challenging position to overcome.
Meanwhile, if Thomas wins, he will earn many points for being in the first Small Final. That’s 130 points for winning MVP twice in a row and an additional 30 points for the Small Final. That would give him 260 points in total.
Considering that Jenna would end up with 150, maybe 200 if she manages to win second place, she would need the MVP the following day, against the winner between Broken Leaf and Hawk Fury, to surpass him.
Even so, Jenna had a certain advantage as well, which was that she would participate in more fights than Thomas if Thomas won the MVP today. This was because after beating one of the two mentioned above, she would have to fight the Clark Group (if they lost). If she won the MVP that day as well, Thomas would only have the alternative of winning the final and becoming MVP to overtake her, since the final gave more points than the rest.
Therefore, if Jenna wins the MVP today, Thomas would be in serious trouble, because Jenna still has two more fights ahead of her before the final. That means two opportunities to move ahead of 450 points. Even if Thomas managed to win the MVP on the day of the final, it would not be enough to catch up with her.
Therefore, today will be key in determining who will lead the tournament MVP standings.
Jenna, on the other hand, wasn’t very excited about winning that MVP. All it meant was that she would be recognized as the leader of the Star Knights and receive a cash prize, which wasn’t worth mentioning to her.
Thomas, however, was wholly focused on it. So much so that when he entered the arena and saw Jenna, the first thing he did was point at her and point his finger at the ground.
"Today we’ll decide everything. You won’t get a chance to fight me for that spot," he declared before turning around and walking away.
The fights started quickly.
The first was the Winners’ Bracket match. Normally, they would let the losers go first, but the judges decided to do it this way to keep the uncertainty of who would be eliminated until the end.
The match between the Elemental Academy and the Clark Group was amazing.
Both teams had a lot to prove, and the Clark Group seemed to be very strong, so they put up a great fight against the Academy. But the latter’s good coordination ultimately gave them the victory, with Thomas running wild and showing why he was going to be the MVP of this tournament.
He set the bar so high that many people considered him the winner, and the next match proved that they weren’t wrong.
The next match was between Hawk Fury and Broken Leaf. Both teams were good in their fields and had won matches. However, although Hawk Fury tried their hardest, they were eliminated by Broken Leaf’s strength.
Unfortunately, the match was full of mistakes that even spectators could notice. Both teams made so many errors that even their fans couldn’t recognize them.
And so, the second fight of the day came to an end.
And in the same way, the third fight began.
Perhaps this was the one everyone was waiting for the most. Could Jenna move up the list and prove herself even more than Thomas had done hours earlier?
Although the question remained unanswered when the fight began...
No one could say anything against anyone.
The Cats have always been renowned for their exceptional artistic and coordinated fighting style. It’s no wonder they have a team that competes against the country’s most prominent guilds.
Their fighting style and movement are excellent. Although they may not possess great fighting strength, the coordination they demonstrated today is superior to anything the Elemental Academy has shown so far.
But Angelic Wave... surpassed them.
Not only in terms of coordination, but also in terms of the artistry of the fight. Every movement, every aspect, and every complement set the bar so high for the entire team that even The Cats, famous for their coordination, were forced to back down.
It was the fight that showcased the most remarkable display of strength, coordination, and strategy the sport has ever seen, to the point that spectators were spellbound by what they were witnessing.
That day, Elliot didn’t show anything more than he had shown before, but his fighting style, combined with Jenna and the rest of the group, made everyone want to see him again.
That fight ended with Angelic Wave’s victory, and when they met The Cats in the locker room, they approached them.
"Normally, we wouldn’t associate with a Clark because of his dirty ways, and out of respect for SkyDome, but I suppose his son is trustworthy, a true artist in the field," said Master Cat, even raising his hand to shake Elliot’s.
He nodded back. "Mr. Master Cat, you’re too kind. Today was a day when my mind was at the pinnacle of tranquility, which is why I was able to put up a fight worthy of you. I should say that we created these strategies specifically for you, so I hope it was worthy of your good judgment." Elliot said.
"Hahaha, good boy." Master Cat looked at Steward. "You’ve taught them well. If this idea was yours, I must say it’s the best thing you’ve come up with since then. Teach them not to lose that calmness in the face of adversity, and you’ll see that they’ll surprise you."
After greetings and a show of mutual respect between both teams, Master Cat turned away.
"I’ll be rooting for you, Angelic Wave. And Elliot, go ahead and get your revenge if that’s what you want. But if you don’t want blood, I can open the doors of my guild to you. We don’t seek revenge, we seek artistic supremacy and glory. And even if you don’t win this tournament, there will still be a place for you here." He said, then looked at Jenna.
"Of course, for you too, Miss White. Give my regards to your father, tell him that Little Cat wants to learn more about the language of the Nurotaurs, ha ha ha."
Jenna was surprised. "You know my father, Master Cat?" she asked quickly, but Master Cat disappeared behind the door.
Elliot looked at her. "Your father knows the language of the Nurotaurs?" he asked in amazement.
"Yes." She nodded. "Didn’t I tell you before? He learned it in the ruins."
Elliot nodded. ’That’s why she knows a little...’ He nodded.
Although the rest of the team was surprised, they didn’t have time to ask before the important results were announced...
