Chapter 67: Fighting to the end
He roared inwardly as well, thanking Jenna in his heart for giving him so many good potions, and swallowed several of them in absurd haste, clearing his mind.
Finally, without even looking back, he took advantage of the power of prediction and sent his two summons, one after the other, toward where the octopus’s tentacle would strike.
Thanks to the potions, which had restored some of his mental strength, he had no problem summoning them.
Then he moved his legs slightly forward, as if to get into a jumping position, and watched Jenna’s steps carefully. He had predicted them before, too.
She would arrive... a few milliseconds after the tentacle.
With the slowdown the tentacle would suffer from the two summons, both might arrive simultaneously.
Soon, Elliot felt that his greatest summoning, the goblin, had been destroyed. ’Clean shot to the head.’
All his stats immediately rose when it returned to him, and milliseconds later, his second summoning was also destroyed.
There wasn’t much time between its estimated arrival and its actual arrival. Soon, this tentacle approached Elliot’s legs with ferocity, seeking to tear them apart instantly.
Elliot was still lying on the ground when suddenly...
His body shot forward, taking advantage of his drastically increased agility and strength.
*BOOM*
The tentacle’s impact on the ground caused a powerful explosion, but it failed to grab its victim. Although it bounced off the ground and leaped forward, searching for another target, in front of the tentacle, nothing but small residual images of Elliot, who had carried Jenna away, remained.
The distance between the tentacle and them widened to 30 meters in a second, and in the next second it was 65 meters.
Despite the considerable weight Elliot was carrying in his arms and the terrible condition of his legs, he managed to run at a speed he had never achieved before.
In three seconds, the 200 meters between the door and them had been reduced to 100 meters, and that was when his speed slowed considerably.
From 40 meters per second in his last second, it suddenly dropped to 10 meters when his legs gave way again.
Then, the distant octopus transferred all its power to its eight tentacles and launched them behind them at full speed, with ridiculously high force. It was going to take advantage of its accumulated power for the first time.
Elliot couldn’t bear Jenna’s weight any longer and was forced to let go. Both of them rolled across the ground, but neither lost sight of their path.
A third time, Elliot forced his legs to stand, and then Jenna pulled him abruptly, bringing him another 20 meters closer in a single leap. At that moment, the first impact of one of the tentacles exploded right where Elliot had been.
They both jumped when they touched the ground again, and a second impact occurred behind them.
They looked back, wanting to check the distance between them and the next tentacles. There was still a 60 to 70-meter distance between them and the door; they needed to get there as soon as possible.
As they looked, the six tentacles were coming together and were launched in a way that would be difficult for both of them to dodge, especially for Elliot, who was in very bad shape.
Jenna frowned.
’...Three more jumps... No, it’ll catch us before then. I only need two.’
She decided to carry Elliot just as he had carried her a moment ago and jumped with all her might.
Her body seemed to defy the laws of gravity and managed to cut the distance in half, covering 30 meters in a single jump. As she landed, she used her momentum to keep running, not caring if her bones could take it.
But fortunately, they did. Even though Elliot weighed considerably more than her, her bones were incredibly strong, and she managed to run another 10 meters before jumping again.
’I’ve got it,’ she shouted in her mind. The door was right in front of her.
But then her body suffered a setback as she felt a strange weight pulling her to her right.
’Elliot?!’ she exclaimed, thinking she was going to drop him, but just that weight deflected her slightly from her initial trajectory, diverting her from the door by a meter.
’No...’ Although startled by this, she suddenly felt huge gusts of wind rushing past her, and six explosions that lifted all kinds of debris occurred beside her.
The six explosions were so powerful that they made her tremble. She immediately realized that the broken mirror she had seen Elliot use earlier had just flashed and returned to inactivity.
’...I see. He predicted the attack, and that’s why he made me dodge it.’
Her skin broke out in goosebumps. If they hadn’t dodged it, the power would have been enough to kill them. Not just kill them, it would have completely destroyed them and left no trace behind.
That explosion had left a huge crater, revealing that it was as powerful as any powerful Rank A attack.
But she smiled.
"Thank you," she said sincerely, glancing sideways at Elliot.
She quickly jumped over the tentacles and the crater, landing in front of the door. Finally, she felt safe when she touched the handle and stepped inside.
Her mind darkened momentarily and then returned to normal, so she could finally see what was on the other side of that room...
What she saw made her tense up.
"Sarcophagus... And Weapons... This really was a Weapon Sarcophagus." She trembled at the sight of so many sarcophagus, with weapons arranged on top of them. Some were closed, others were open.
But the most terrifying thing was on the other side of the room.
A large black throne was adorned with gold and red stripes that looked like veins, with blood flowing through them and crossing it completely.
On it...
A tall, strangely hairy, but peculiar body was sitting, staring at them as if amused.
"...Nurotaur..." Both of their bodies shuddered.
