Chapter 107: The final battle begins: A rematch that looks set to be bloody
There were four people who, when they appeared, left everyone in shock, including the local leaders.
"They are the leaders of the city’s Awakened Association and the local government secretary. I didn’t think those four were in charge of judging the battles," said Steward, revealing surprise in his eyes.
Elliot frowned.
The government secretary.
This person was influential in his own right.
Not in the realm of the awakened, but he did have great power among civil society, politics, and the nobility.
He is the political leader of the city and was appointed by the King himself. That is why he is respected among the citizens.
In addition, he belongs to a renowned noble family that participated in the last Guild War between the Arce Kingdom and the Runic Kingdom; they are prominent nobles and influential people.
To have attracted the attention of that name, this was undoubtedly a fight worth watching. In addition, the three leaders of the Awakened Association have a high status, being practically subordinates of the System.
They are among the most respected people in a city, territory, guild, or kingdom.
They appeared, said a few words to the spectators and the contestants, and then stepped aside to watch.
They did not reveal the reason for their visit, and their words were too simple to understand what they were planning.
But they were there.
It added a little more pressure to the battle.
When everything calmed down after their appearance, Steward looked at the boys.
"I have nothing to say to you. Just looking at how the fights went this time, I have to admit that we weren’t prepared to win before. Our contestants were going to lose, possibly in the early stages, and that would have been fine," he said.
"After all, it’s difficult to fight against foreigners from big cities." He smiled. "But you have done it and shown me that it can be won. So, although I won’t demand that you win, I hope you can do it. If you do, there will be all kinds of rewards for each of you." He then stepped aside.
"Go out there. Without saying a word, just face your enemies and come out. Be careful, this will be the last battle."
They all simply nodded and entered the arena.
On the other side of the combat arena, all the members of the Elemental Academy looked at them with a strange smile.
Seeing them reignited the flames of revenge in Elliot’s heart.
’This time will be different,’ he thought, looking at his system.
Thanks to the fact that he had personally killed them or made significant contributions to their deaths in the previous battle, his stats had risen slightly since the last time.
[Stats]
| Strength: 47.
| Vitality: 40.
| Agility: 37.
| Sense: 26.
He had gained one point in strength, one in resistance (vitality), and one in sense.
He still felt it wasn’t enough, but he had everything in his class ready to use. He no longer needed to hold back. His mission today would be the same as yesterday: to make this a 12 vs. 7 fight.
Both teams were evenly matched today. They weren’t going to use combat formations.
One of them did so because it made no sense not to take advantage of their numerical superiority, and they would do the same thing they did yesterday.
The other was for a similar reason. Staying in a combat formation would mean certain death, as they were outnumbered. Therefore, both would fight using frontal battle strategies.
Although they knew that these summoned creatures felt no pain, there was no way they would not die.
They needed to attack head-on.
The counter soon started and quickly reached zero, signaling the start of the battle.
Immediately, Elliot’s five summons appeared above the arena. Unlike the previous day, they were all ready for combat.
"Elliot." Andy and Philip turned their attention to Elliot. "What should we do? Do we fulfill Andrew’s role from yesterday?"
Elliot nodded. "The two of you will accompany my tank. With three tanks in front, that Master Rank tank won’t be able to do much. Also, let my tank use its ability to make it harder to kill. It will reduce its mobility, but with the two of you nearby, you can contain it."
"We understand."
Elliot then looked at Andrew. "We’ll use what I told you before. Make sure you do exactly that, so my summon can understand you." He reminded him.
Andrew nodded. "What if we aim to take them out in record time? The shortest fight of the tournament was our fight against the Clark Group. Five minutes and 36 seconds. Do you think we can beat that?" He asked.
Elliot smiled. "We can try." He looked at Chris and Rich.
"The mission is simple. You’ll move with my rat to try to get to the Soul Mage, and my mage summon will help you along the way. Even though it’s limited to a few shots, its magic is powerful."
Both nodded. Rich, who was always talking, remained silent this time, showing how focused he was.
Then he finally looked at Jenna.
"That master swordsman will come for you," he said.
She nodded. "Don’t worry. I can handle him. The problem will be the control mage. We’re easy targets for him when we attack head-on and don’t use a clear formation. Will you try to take him out?"
"Yes." He nodded. "I’ll take him out again. He probably has countermeasures to defend against an attack like that, but this time I’ll be able to take him out before he uses his tricks."
"Good. I like your confidence. Then let’s do it that way. It’ll be simpler than last time, and this time I’ll be able to use all my tricks, so that magic swordsman won’t be able to do anything."
When everyone was ready, the other side was ready as well.
Tension filled the air for a brief moment. Then, the enemy tank roared in front and jumped, activating his abilities.
It was going to grab Elliot or Jenna, but it was quickly intercepted by a summon and two people, who played their cards right to divert the tank’s attention.
The first clash between the four was the start of the battle.
Immediately, Jenna and Andrew ran off in opposite directions, their weapons ready for combat. Both quickly reached their targets, and Andrew’s heavy hammer struck the ground first, creating the perfect opportunity for Rich, Chris, and the rat to move behind him, into a blind spot.
At the same time, the warrior came close to Andrew to help him.
On the other side, Jenna collided with the Master Rank magic swordsman.
"Hehe, little one, long time no see. Looks like we’re in for a long, fun fight today." He laughed mockingly, but with an intense desire in his eyes.
Jenna simply looked at him as if he were stupid. Her lips curled into a soft smile.
Then a second sword appeared in his other hand. The sword caught in the impact was his dark sword, while the other new sword was the one recently given to him by the Steward.
It was a powerful sword with a slight magical stunning attribute.
She attacked with a lunge at his face with astonishing agility.
He had to jump quickly backward to avoid the impact, but doing so was a mistake.
Jenna stomped her foot and leaped forward before finishing her previous attack, moving her body at high speed in a double attack.
The swordsman was forced to take the attack head-on, sending him reeling even further backward.
A wound opened on his cheek and part of his chest.
"Unbelievable," he said, looking down at his chest. The wound was large enough that it wouldn’t heal in a short time. "So you’re a dual swordswoman. This is going to be problematic."
Jenna sneered.
"You don’t stand a chance now that I can fight freely. Although I hope you at least try to fight."
Her words had not yet reached her opponent’s ears when her body was already seeking confrontation.
But then...
"Be careful, Jenna!" Elliot’s shout reached her, disturbing her slightly.
-
Elliot moved in this fight in the same way as in the previous one, but from a different position, taking advantage of the force of the impacts on both sides.
He was able to quickly reach his target, who was being protected by the resistance mage as usual, but this time, his attack was not as delayed as last time.
He reached the vicinity almost at the same time as Jenna’s crash occurred. He used his berserker to run over the resistance mage and thus avoid a wear-and-tear fight, which would have left this control mage free.
The problem he saw was that he had no idea where the assassin was. But he assumed he was looking for his soul mage, so he prepared the berserker near that spot after using it initially.
The problem arose when he caught up with the Control Mage.
He wasn’t expected, but all the members were already on the periphery of the opposing team. That would normally be good for them because they could take advantage of their numerical superiority, but it was a mistake.
Having passed the Resistance Mage, he was now behind him. The Control Mage was in front.
Further away in the same direction was the Soul Mage. Just then, Chris and Rich managed to get closer, allowing him to see the other assassin: he was protecting the Soul Mage. They had anticipated such an attack.
Everyone was busy.
The main tank immediately began to withstand blows with sheer resistance. He did not attack directly.
The secondary tank seemed to start moving toward where Jenna was.
And the control mage, just before Elliot could reach him, unleashed his ability, focusing it in a single direction: Andy and Philip.
