Game of Love and Deception: The Billionaire's Ex Wife -
Chapter 95: Pregnant
Chapter 95: Pregnant
A smirk curved up Lorenzo’s face.
"So you think I’m hot?"
His face inched closer, and Ashley fought not to shut her eyes.
"You’re deflecting."
Lorenzo chuckled, and his lips grazed hers. Just when she thought he was going to kiss her, he pulled away. She cussed inwardly.
"We have to go check your home, remember?" He let her go, and she immediately missed the warmth.
"Not before I get my answer."
She walked over to sit on his bed, crossing one leg over the other.
Lorenzo chuckled again and sat beside her. He hesitated before speaking.
"The thing is..." he murmured, brushing a hand through his hair before looking at her. "I just want you here with me, Ashley. I want to wake up every day and see your face first. I want to belong to you... only you," he whispered, eyes locked on hers. "Like I’ve said before... I can’t not want it."
Her gaze dropped to their joined hands, heart roaring in her chest. The way he said he wanted to belong to her—like he was something to be possessed—God, what was wrong with this man?
"I thought I could stay away when you said you couldn’t... but I only lasted three days," he added with a chuckle, almost embarrassed by how pathetic he sounded.
Ashley’s heart pounded faster as he brushed a stray hair behind her ear.
"You shouldn’t have let me have a taste, sunshine, because now the only way I’ll let another man have you... is if you put a bullet right through here."
He took her hand and pressed it against his chest. "You feel that, sunshine? It only beats for you. I don’t mind waiting an eternity for you to change your mind."
Ashley swallowed a lump, beads of sweat rising on her skin. Another confession wasn’t what she expected when she’d teased him. How could he always be so greedy? So blunt about what he wanted? And somehow in a way that shattered every wall she had left?
She, on the other hand, was still tangled in her fears—afraid of the past, the future, of being selfish, being consumed. Afraid of wanting something more than the desperate need to find her child.
But those three days without him had shown her just how broken she’d feel if she lost him again.
She was stuck—between letting go or risking another chance. Either way, she’d lose something. She never imagined she’d face this dilemma again... and with him of all people. But then, life always had a way of throwing surprises.
She opened her mouth to say something, but her throat was too dry.
Lorenzo’s gaze didn’t waver, and that made the moment feel even more charged.
She dragged air into her lungs before trying again.
"When... when I didn’t hear from you for those three days..." A shaky chuckle slipped out. "I thought you got tired of me," she confessed.
Lorenzo’s gaze darkened. Got tired of her? He took her hands, loving how his large ones swallowed them up, then gave a gentle squeeze.
"Does this wreck of a man look like he could ever get tired of you?" he asked, brushing his fingers along her cheek. "Do I look like I even have that ability?"
Ashley slowly lifted her gaze to meet those beautiful orbs. There was so much conviction in them, she almost believed every word.
But there was still so much she didn’t know—so much that kept her doubting everything. If she was ever going to give this a chance, she needed to let the weight off her chest first.
"Did you think I was going to be pregnant... because of all the sex we had?"
Lorenzo’s brow furrowed in confusion.
"I—don’t understand."
Ashley swallowed the lump in her throat. She knew this wasn’t related to what they were talking about now, but she couldn’t hold it in any longer.
"Did you leave nine years ago because you feared that... that I was—"
It clicked.
Lorenzo stiffened.
"No, sunshine," he interrupted quickly, his grip turning firmer. "How could you even think that?"
"Then fucking tell me what really happened. Or how much longer do I have to wait?"
The color drained from Lorenzo’s face. His heart thundered in his chest as he rose, raking a hand through his hair.
How foolish of him to think anything meaningful could happen between them without facing this—this question.
Ashley felt nausea rise to the pit of her stomach at his reaction. It was clear he didn’t want to talk. At least, not willingly.
"If you don’t want to tell me, it’s fine," she murmured, taking deep breaths to push back the tears building behind her eyes. "I just thought I deserved to know."
She stood too.
"Ashley—?"
"Don’t say anything to me. Unless it’s the answer to my question," she snapped, heading for the door.
She needed to get out before she broke in front of him.
God, she hated how much her heart was twisting.
Lorenzo caught up just as she fumbled with the handle.
"Hey, don’t leave." He gently turned her around. "I know it’s hard to trust me. And every time you look at me, you probably still see the boy who disappeared without a word." His voice was barely a whisper. "And you’re scared I might do it again. But I swear—that was never intentional."
Ashley met his guilty gaze with steel in hers. "Wrong answer, Lorenzo."
He drew in a shaky breath, pressing a hand against the door to block her exit.
"Fine. I’ll tell you everything—whatever you want to know."
"That’s more like it." Ashley bit her lip, trying to mask the pounding in her chest. "So... couch, or do you want to spill it here?"
She tried to sound light, as if her heart wasn’t thundering in dread.
"Can I take you home first?"
Her expression hardened again.
"Please, just hear me out," Lorenzo pleaded. "I’ll take you home. Then we’ll talk—everything I promised earlier."
"Lorenzo, no. You’re just—"
"It’s about Vanessa... I mean, Roseline," he cut in.
Ashley froze. Her breath caught, her heart now thudding for a completely different reason.
Was he buying time? Time to cook up a perfect lie?
But something in his eyes told her no.
"Then after I’ll tell you why I left," he added quietly.
She hesitated, then gave a slow nod. "Fine. We’ll do it your way."
A quiet breath of relief escaped Lorenzo’s lips. He stepped back and headed for the closet, grabbing a fresh shirt. At least he’d have a little more time—before the truth shattered everything. Once she heard the stories, she’d probably never want anything to do with him again.
"Wear this." He tossed her a black hoodie. "It’s cold outside."
Ashley caught it and slipped it on, his scent wrapping around her like a second skin. It was maddening—how even that was starting to feel like home. How could she be getting this addicted... at a time like this?
"Ladies first," Lorenzo said softly, holding the door open.
