Chapter 69: Cousin or Not
Chapter 69: Cousin or Not
It was evening by the time Kayla and Christian arrived home. They had spent the day driving around the city, enjoying each other’s company. Christian went to check on their daughter, kissed her goodnight, then joined Kayla in their bedroom.
After showering and eating each other out in the bathroom, Kayla offered to help Christian administer his HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) injection after he took the clomid orally.
Dr. Bradley had said it would help boost his testosterone and sperm production.
"This shit better work fast enough," Christian muttered as Kayla injected the HCG into his arm like a pro.
"It will," she said, straightening up.
"Come here." Christian pulled her onto his lap with his free hand.
After a few kissing sessions, they got under the duvet, cuddling. When Kayla fell asleep, Christian got up and stepped onto the private balcony with a bottle of vodka.
His mind raced with thoughts of Ashley, plans to infiltrate the Flynn mansion, and how to deal with Lorenzo. Everything would be set in motion once he returned from his business trip in three days.
He opened the vodka and drank straight from the bottle, a malicious smirk spreading across his lips.

Evening of the next day
Kayla returned from her visit to Dr. Bradley, and as she stepped into the house, Veronica informed her that her cousin, Calvin, had arrived and was currently resting in the guest room.
Kayla gave a curt nod, her heart racing at the thought of seeing Calvin. She quickly went to freshen up, wanting to wash off Dr. Bradley’s scent before heading to the guest room opposite the main house.
When she got there, she found Calvin sleeping peacefully, hugging one of the pillows. A smile crept onto her face as she stood by the door watching him. He wore only his brief, his firm back bare for her eyes to feast on. He looked exhausted from the journey.
It was his third time visiting since she and Christian got engaged, so Kayla wasn’t surprised he already made himself comfortable.
After a moment, Kayla decided to leave and come back when he was awake. But just as she turned to go, Calvin stirred, his groggy voice whispering her name.
"Hey," she said with a blush, walking back to him.
Calvin sat up, revealing his firm chest and ripped stomach—a sight Kayla instantly got drunk on.
"I was just going to come back," she said, settling on the bed beside him. Brushing a thumb across his face, she asked, "How long have you been here?"
Calvin pulled her into a hug, inhaling her sweet scent. "Let’s say... two hours-ish," he murmured, playfully biting her neck.
Kayla giggled.
Turning her face toward him, Calvin asked with a cocky smirk, "Where did you go that was more important than welcoming your handsome boyfriend, huh?"
Kayla bit her lip before straddling him, her arms sliding around his neck.
"I had to run a very important errand for Christian. I’m sorry I wasn’t here, okay? But gosh, I missed you."
She pecked his lips repeatedly before hugging him tight, breathing in his masculine scent.
Calvin’s expression shifted at the mention of Christian. Kayla began grinding against him slowly, but he stopped her, pulling her back to look at him.
A frown settled on her face. Calvin never rejected her like this. Infact, he was usually the one in a rush to get her naked.
"What’s wrong?" she asked, concerned.
"I’m really getting tired of sneaking around," Calvin replied. "I want this to be official."
Kayla’s stomach twisted into a knot. She slipped off his laps and sat beside him.
"You know I’ve been trying to get him to officially marry me, so I can grab enough wealth for us after the divorce," she explained. "But I don’t think he’s ready to do that anytime soon."
"So does that mean I’m just going to keep waiting in the shadows forever?" Calvin asked, irritation creeping into his voice.
Kayla turned to him, cupping his face. "Of course not. I just need a little more time to get everything I can."
"Two years isn’t long enough?" Calvin met her gaze, his voice tinged with frustration.
For a heartbeat, Kayla’s smile faltered. Her heart skipped at the thought of Calvin leaving. No Calvin meant no leverage, no comfort once Christian ended, no Plan B. She couldn’t afford that—not after everything she’d set in motion.
Calvin was the love of her life, but that didn’t make it easy to walk away from the luxury, the power, without something to fall back on. Sometimes, love just wasn’t enough.
She leaned closer, her voice softening. "Please, don’t be like this. You’re the only real thing in all this mess."
Calvin’s face hardened. "How should I be when another man’s fucking my woman while I sit on the sidelines, pretending to be her cousin? I’m done with this game."
Kayla felt a pang in her chest.
"Is that how you want to play it? You know I’m doing everything I can," she said, pulling her hands away.
"What do you want me to do?" Calvin snapped. "I told you, we can live on what I make. We don’t need the whole world. This plan was about punishing Christian for what he did to you. But it’s starting to look like you’re just going to stay with him."
Kayla’s face twisted with disbelief. She’d hoped for some good times during these next few days–some wild sex perhaps–but it seemed like she was only going to get Calvin’s frustration. It irritated her.
"Maybe I should just go back to my room," she said, standing up.
Calvin hesitated, then grabbed her arm, stopping her.
"What? I thought you wanted me to leave," Kayla protested, refusing to meet his gaze.
Calvin stood and hugged her from behind. "I’m sorry. I just miss you so much, and it hurts thinking about what you two do when I’m not here."
He kissed her neck, and Kayla gradually relaxed in his arms.
She turned around to face him, wrapping her hands around his neck. "It’s just sex. I’m never going to start a family with him. I’m even taking injections to prevent any accidents," she explained.
Calvin’s lips curled into a small smile. His grip tightened around her waist.
"I just want my company running smoothly, and yours too. It won’t be much longer... and we’ll finally be together," Kayla reassured him again.
"What choice do I have? I can’t imagine a life without you," Calvin pouted before kissing her.
Warmth spread through Kayla as she deepened the kiss, pushing him onto the bed and climbing on top of him.
