Chapter 115: You’re dead to me
Chapter 115: You’re dead to me
He walked into the living room and froze in horror. Kayla was on all fours on the couch, Christian gripping her from behind, slamming into her without pause. Both of them were drenched in sweat, lost in the moment.
Everything around Lorenzo blurred, and a familiar emptiness settled over him like a wave.
He had only started dating Kayla to forget Ashley, to move on even when it felt impossible. But he’d treated her right. He gave her everything she wanted—everything he could afford—tried to love her, and was beginning to fall for her. And Christian—he’d become a friend after Lorenzo helped him with a school project back in their first year. Their bond grew stronger since then, until they turned best friends.
Now, all he could think was how much he regretted not owning a gun—he would’ve shot them both without blinking.
Christian’s voice snapped him out of his trance. "I’m going to make you mine... forever!"
Lorenzo spun around, shoving the murderous thoughts to the back of his mind. In his daze, he kicked something, making a loud noise. The pair stopped mid-motion and turned to look at him, eyes wide.
"Lorenzo!" they called out in shock, but he was already gone—running, like a wounded animal, hands pressed to his ears.
He didn’t slow down until he stormed into his workplace, legs trembling beneath him. Sweat ran down his face, and his eyes burned with unshed tears. Each step felt heavy, like wading through mud.
The sounds around him—the buzz of clippers, customers chatting—faded into the background. He felt like he was drowning. He couldn’t tell which hurt more: Christian’s betrayal or Kayla’s cheating.
His hands shook as he started barbing his first customer’s hair, almost nicking the man’s ear. Evans shot him a concerned glance.
"You okay, boy?" Evans mouthed.
Lorenzo only nodded, biting his lip hard like it might somehow stop the ache in his chest.
A little while later, he stepped outside to grab something—and ran into Christian.
He was lurking near the salon, as if he had any right to be there. Both Christian and Kayla had been calling and texting nonstop until he finally blocked them.
Now, just seeing the bastard’s face twisted with guilt, made his blood boil.
He couldn’t hold it anymore. He marched up and landed a punch on Christian’s jaw, sending him crashing to the ground, wincing in pain.
"You’ll get your betraying ass up and get the fuck out of my face!" he shouted, towering over him, fists clenched tight, barely holding back more rage.
Christian coughed and wiped at the blood trickling from his mouth. "I’m sorry, man. I didn’t—"
"You didn’t what?" Lorenzo cut in. "You want to make her yours forever, huh? Fuck off. You’re dead to me, dude!"
Christian stood, brushing himself off. "You’re saying all this over a girl?"
Lorenzo’s eyes burned. "You crossed a line, Christian. Kayla was my girlfriend and you knew it. Yet you still stuck your stupid dick in her. Stay away from me, or I swear, you’ll regret it."
Christian scoffed. "I said I was sorry."
Lorenzo stared at him, disgusted. Like that was supposed to fix everything.
"Shove your stupid apology up your fucking ass!" he spat, storming off. Tears burned at the corners of his eyes, threatening to fall, but he blinked them back. He wasn’t going to waste a single tear on either of them.
Just as he was about to enter the salon, something caught his eye—Christian, cornered by a group of guys. Lorenzo paused in his tracks.
He stood still, watching as the scene quickly escalated. One of the guys dragged Christian aside, and when he resisted, the punches started flying.
Lorenzo ran a hand through his hair, cursing under his breath. A part of him wanted to walk away, let Christian get what he deserved. But when another guy joined in, it stopped being something he could ignore.
He rushed over, grabbing one of the attackers by the arm and yanking him back.
"Leave him alone! You want to kill him?" he yelled.
The punches stopped. The group turned toward him, eyes filled with anger and confusion.
Mason stepped forward, glaring.
"Lorenzo, what are you doing here?" he snapped.
"This is my guy. Tell them to back off," Lorenzo said, voice firm.
The blonde guy who had been beating Christian sneered. "And what if we said no?"
Lorenzo clicked his tongue. "Then you’ll learn the hard way."
Without warning, the guy lunged, throwing a punch on his jaw.
Lorenzo’s eyes darkened. He met him head-on, and soon, fists were flying. Christian and Mason jumped in, trying to pull them apart, while the rest of the group just watched.
In the middle of the chaos, police sirens suddenly wailed through the air, and the group scattered. Christian vanished with the crowd, leaving Lorenzo and his opponent behind—the blonde now bleeding on the ground.
The police arrived in seconds. One officer roughly grabbed Lorenzo and cuffed him while he struggled to explain. "He came at me first!"
Another officer sneered, not bothering to hide the disdain in his voice. "You should stop resisting arrest, young man. Black dudes always causing trouble."
Lorenzo clenched his jaw, anger spiking at being stereotyped.
Evans ran out, trying to intervene as they dragged Lorenzo away. "Let him go! He’s just a kid!"
But the officers didn’t listen. They took both him and the other guy to the station.
Lorenzo was tossed into a cell, while the other guy was quietly released.
Then came the worst part—an officer returned, holding a small plastic bag.
"Found this in your pants pocket," he said.
Lorenzo stared at it, stunned. Hard drugs.
"I don’t even know how that got there," he muttered.
The officer gave him a hard stare, shaking his head. "Your lies won’t get you out of this, kid. You better start talking."
Lorenzo dragged a hand through his hair. "I swear I’m telling the truth. I don’t know anything about that stuff."
The officer turned and walked away without another word, clearly not buying it.
Lorenzo gripped the cell bars tightly, rattling it as he continued to scream about his innocence to the officer.
