Chapter 102: Psychotic

Flashback: Lorenzo at eighteen

Lorenzo snuck into Ashley’s compound, cautiously, his heart racing. As always, he hoped to enter her room through the window to avoid crossing paths with her psychotic aunt.

He couldn’t tell if Charlotte was around, but he didn’t want to find out. He didn’t want to get Ashley in trouble. For reasons he didn’t fully understand, the old lady resented him and made it clear she didn’t want him anywhere near her niece. But Ashley and Lorenzo had been dating secretly for over a month.

For the past two days, though, Ashley had gone MIA, and Lorenzo was beginning to panic. He needed to know she was okay—she’d never stayed away from him like this before.

He tried to open her window, as he always did, but was shocked to find it locked from the inside. She never locked it, knowing he would visit at any time. She didn’t have a phone for him to reach her either—her aunt had seized the one she had.

But he had been saving up to buy her a new one, and he’d almost saved enough. A few more days, maybe a week, and he’d get it.

"Ash," he called softly, tapping on her window, glancing around nervously. No reply. He knocked again, still nothing. Leaning closer, he tried to peek inside but could only see the curtain hanging down.

"Ashley, please open up. I’ve got something important to tell you," he whispered desperately.

He needed to tell her about the scholarship email he received the day before. A prestigious university had offered him a chance to study art abroad. His random painting had caught their attention and they believed he had potential.

It was a big deal.

But accepting the offer meant leaving Ashley behind with her uncaring aunt for years. That didn’t sit right with him. He’d rather stay back and learn a skill locally. He knew Ashley would want him to go, but he had made up his mind. Still, he wanted to tell her—she was his girlfriend, and they had promised to never keep secrets from each other.

Frustration gnawed at him as he ran a hand through his hair, his mind racing with worries. Had he hurt her without knowing? Was she in trouble? Had Charlotte found out about them and was punishing her?

The last thought made his stomach drop, and the weight of it sank deep into his chest. He felt lost, unsure of what to do if that was the case.

"Ashley," he called again, his voice rising slightly. "Sunshine, if you can hear me, please talk to me. Your silence is driving me crazy." He tried once more to pry the window open.

Then, a sharp sound—a throat clearing—came from behind him. He jumped, spinning around. His eyes widened in horror when they landed on Charlotte.

Shit. He was done for.

With an evil smile, Charlotte clapped her hands together.

"Go... good evening, ma’am. It’s not what you think, I was..." Lorenzo stammered.

Charlotte laughed, waving her hand dismissively. "You don’t have to explain anything, sweet boy. Why do you look so scared? Come on, I know you’re looking for my niece. You might as well come inside for dinner," she said, her voice unnervingly sweet, her gaze lingering on him with a flirtatious edge. He almost wanted to scream that he was only eighteen.

Lorenzo’s eyes darted around, discomfort crawling over him. His mind screamed for him to run, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t leave without seeing Ashley.

Charlotte’s voice cut through the air again. "You don’t want to keep my beautiful niece waiting, do you?" She flashed another unsettling grin, this one lingering as her long nails brushed lightly against his chin. He shivered at the touch. Before he could respond, she hooked her elbow around his and dragged him toward the house. The overpowering scent of her perfume made his stomach turn.

Determined to see Ashley, he let her pull him along, his mind swirling as he tried to ignore the rising tension.

Inside, he sat across from Charlotte, who was eating her chicken soup with a carefree demeanor, as if she had forgotten he was even there. His eyes were locked on the bowl she’d served him, trying his best to avoid her cleavage, which she seemed to adjust deliberately, not caring that he was sitting right across from her.

Ashley still hadn’t joined them, despite Charlotte’s promise when she’d served him his food. Frustration began to bubble up inside him.

"Sweet boy, you haven’t touched your meal. Don’t you like it? Would you prefer something else?" Charlotte’s voice dripped with sweetness, but there was a sharp mockery beneath it.

When Lorenzo didn’t respond, she dropped her spoon and locked her gaze on him. The cold, calculating glint in her eyes sent a chill through him. He wanted to run, but he couldn’t. He was there for Ashley, and he wasn’t leaving until he saw her.

"Where’s Ashley?" he asked, his voice tight, masking the irritation that was starting to rise.

"Oh, about that, I forgot to mention. She’s resting—actually, she’s sleeping," she said, waving him off dismissively before straightening to resume her meal. "My niece really loves her rest. It’s best not to disturb her."

Lorenzo swallowed hard, already knowing she was lying. "Please, let me see her. I have something important to tell her," he pleaded.

Charlotte scoffed, a sneer curling her lips. "You mean you want to apologize for constantly raping her?" Her words cut through the air, sharp and accusing. Her eyes bored into him, her gaze intense and cold.

He choked on his saliva, his body freezing in shock. His eyes widened, his heart pounding so loud in his chest.

"Wh-what did you say?" he stammered, his voice trembling. Sweat broke out across his body, despite the cool air from the air-conditioned room.

Charlotte shifted in her chair, crossing her legs slowly. Her expression was one of false hurt, almost amused at his reaction.

"Don’t play dumb with me, young man. I know exactly what you’ve been doing to my darling niece," she said, her voice coated with venom. "And I know what you’ve been doing to a few other helpless girls around here."

My God. What was she saying?
