Chapter 88: Little Gorilla Awakened
For a week, Kaiju and Ember chatted a lot. Their main topic was about leadership skills, but like how chat, most of the time, drifted to another topic, they even talked about Ember’s past life–how he killed a brown werewolf three years ago by himself, earning him a scar on his stomach.
After four days, Snow was finally awakened from her slumber and instantly demanded food, which resulted with Kaiju cooking for many hours, eating in between, for feasts. He was still worried about Little Gorilla’s condition. Snow could only assure him that Little Gorilla overexerted himself, causing him to recuperate unconsciously more than Snow.
Kaiju could only secure abundant foods for Little Gorilla in the inventory–surprisingly, he discovered the inventory could store food, and the quality never changed. The Gacha System explained that the inventory’s time was frozen, except whenever an item was being repaired. Even then, it was only applicable for that item alone.
Afterwards, Snow and Kaiju conversed for a long time with Ember about their battle earlier, which made Snow feel ashamed. Kaiju had to comfort her and finally, he noticed the subtle change by Snow’s behavior–he felt satisfied.
Aqua and Zephyr were always invited by Kaiju to join in with them, especially their conversation, but they simply rejected him, telling him they just wanted to listen. Kaiju did not force them. Unknown to him, Aqua and Zephyr began to like him, too. If only Kaiju checked their loyalty, he would be surprised it went up by ten percent.
It was simply because of how Kaiju remained humble by Ember’s insightful feedback–though harsh, his criticism was on point. In fact, if a battle, similar earlier, occurred once again, and they had to choose between following Ember and Kaiju’s orders, they would not hesitate to pick the former.
Ember had been their leader whenever they ventured outside. Furthermore, Ember learned directly from their Master, Herforao, so they knew they had to trust him. As expected, Ember had demonstrated his capabilities as a leader, and often, as their older brother. Hence, they even came to treat him as their father.
Now, Kaiju was acting like them, so kind and humble, willing to learn from his tamed beast, which came as a surprise to them. Snow was not an exception. She even thought her master must have been obsessed about being a pupil to whoever he thought worthy to learn a lot from.
It was not entirely a bad thing, as Snow came to understand how important learning was, especially if you were under the right teacher. That was how they improved too, continuous learning. Snow slowly began to realize the satisfaction in learning.
When they finally arrived at their main base after five days, they discovered they were the first to arrive. Kaiju found a place to settle with them and continued their conversation. Kaiju introduced to them their possible companion for the next two days.
After a week, it was actually already more than a day since the agreed time by Qwanisha and they were still not present. Kaiju wasn’t worried, they might have been pre-occupied by something. He even thought they might have been battling against other higher races. However, he was confident they would be able to win.
What Kaiju failed to realize was he had never met the strongest among the other higher races present. The violet infernal he met earlier was not even the peak of their group. In the case of Luminari, it was always often the weakest who survived due to the care of the strong.
Little Gorilla had finally awakened, but, unfortunately, he informed Kaiju he was still in the vulnerable state. He felt weak and sensitive–one gentle touch triggered an immense pain. Little Gorilla stated it was because he absorbed light mana too much for his body to handle.
Kaiju then reminded Little Gorilla not to risk his life once again if they could deal with the enemies without the need to do so. Little Gorilla nodded heavily. His Master was indeed right. He carried the burden alone when he had comrades to begin with.
However, he did not regret it either. When Kaiju narrated what happened to Little Gorilla when the latter used the Third Golden Eye once again, Little Gorilla realized that Kaiju would be in a sorry state on his stead if he did not activate them. After all, Kaiju did not have Fire Resistance skill, but his skin was already completely burned.
Kaiju did not even bother to use the Scroll of Lesser Healing and relied on his regenerative abilities from his passive resistance skills. Little Gorilla did not hold back about his observation and told his Master to take care of his body.
Kaiju chuckled and said, "If you think about it, it would not be bad as I would be able to learn a Fire Resistance skill. Look now, I did not even obtain one, even just a common grade."
Little Gorilla rolled his eyes and did not even bother to argue with Kaiju anymore. Kaiju did not mind and simply smiled. He said, "You really don’t have to worry about me."
He recalled something and lightly smacked Little Gorilla’s head. "Did you think I had forgotten you had thrown the single-handed shield at the last moment to prevent it from breaking?"
Little Gorilla felt he was wronged and explained, "I still have the heavy armor, anyway. Even, I feel my heart ache if it breaks. After all, that was supposedly a gift for Big Brother Max. It would be a pity if it was only him who would not be able to receive a gift."
"Well, if saving you with it was the reason, he would not mind."
"No. If I can save it anyway, why won’t I?"
Kaiju furrowed his eyebrows and stared at Little Gorilla in silence. Little Gorilla did not meet his gaze but he remained committed to what he said. Kaiju was amused by his behavior. Did they have this behavior before?
That was then, Kaiju recalled, during the three months he spent time with them, Little Gorilla had always been kind. He was, as always, acting like a big brother, especially to Snow. He was mature enough to adapt to Snow’s antics.
Often, Kaiju would even catch Little Gorilla looking out for him. Although Kaiju was not used to someone caring for him, ever since he met Snow, he grew accustomed to it to the point overlooked Little Gorilla’s behavior.
Come to think of it, Faith’s religion has always been about being kind. Kaiju shook his head, tossing the unnecessary thoughts at the back of his head as he focused on the present.
He smiled at Little Gorilla and said, "If Max would come to know about what you did, especially your teacher, Faith, they would be glad."
Little Gorilla was taken aback, stared at his master for a while, and shook his head. "They didn’t need to. At least, for me, there’s no reason for you to do so."
Kaiju shook his head. "They, at least, have to know about it."
Little Gorilla did not reply. Kaiju took the chance, when he recalled it, to converse with Little Gorilla about Ember’s feedback on their battle earlier. Little Gorilla was intrigued, his countenance grew solemn by Ember’s critiques, as he seriously listened.
His expression was similar to when he was listening to Herforao’s yapping before.
