Chapter 95: Three Idiots and a Sulking Prince
After finishing the last bite of his meal, Micah leaned back slightly, rubbing his stomach with a satisfied sigh. Across from him, Darcy quietly wiped his mouth with a napkin and spoke. "I have to go meet my professor." He stood up and adjusted the strap of his bag.
Micah paused mid-reach for his drink, then looked up at him and gave a short nod.
Darcy smiled. "I’ll see you later."
Micah waved him off as Nick returned after placing the empty trays in the back. "Alright, we will go around looking for Emile," he said, already pulling Micah from his seat.
Darcy watched them go and turned toward the engineering building.
"Hey, hey... Why do I have to come?!" Micah protested as Eddie joined them. "He’ll probably start crying the second he sees me!"
Nick rolled his eyes. "Let’s deal with it. He will apologise to you and your friend, and you will let this go! End of the feud, clear the air. Easy."
"Yeah," Eddie added, hands in his pockets. "I don’t want to tiptoe around you two in the room!"
Micah groaned and allowed himself to be dragged along. "Fine, but if he does one more wrong move, I am out!"
They made their way across campus, the crowds had thinned out since morning but still buzzed with excited students.
"Where do you think he went?" Eddie asked as they walked.
"Somewhere quiet and deserted..." Nick mumbled, scanning the area. "Maybe the restroom? Or even our dorm?!"
"No way, with the way he was haughty and mighty, he won’t go there to sulk. I am thinking about beside a fountain or probably behind a bush..." Micah didn’t finish his words.
They arrived near the bush, and there he was. Emile was kicking a stone with his foot, sniffing.
Nick gave him an impressed look. "Wow. That’s disturbingly accurate."
Eddie gave a low whistle. "They say keep your friends close, but your enemies closer! That’s it! You know him so well!"
Micah ran a hand through his hair, totally ignoring their gazes and remarks. He had just guessed! He had seen too many spoiled rich kids to know their mindset.
Emile heard footsteps and turned. His eyes were red-rimmed, and he looked like he hadn’t stopped sulking since earlier. His expression twisted as he saw Micah. "Why are you here? To mock me more?"
"I am not that idle. Don’t flatter yourself, these guys dragged me here." Micah snorted, folding his arms.
Emile’s lips trembled as his eyes welled up again.
Nick stepped forward quickly. "Come on, don’t take his harsh words too seriously. He is just mad you didn’t apologise earlier."
Emile sniffed, looking down at his shoes. "Sorry..." he mumbled. "I didn’t mean to say that about your friend... I genuinely thought... well, I am sorry."
Nothing shut up a sharp tongue like tears, Micah thought grimly, suddenly feeling like he had just bullied a child. "Okay, okay... Just apologise to Darcy properly when you see him, alright?" He said and turned to leave.
But Eddie draped a hand on Micah’s shoulder. "That’s it, man! Case closed!" Eddie grinned. "Now let’s celebrate with a little sightseeing. I heard the girls from Isatis are top-tier!"
Micah rubbed his face. He had better things to do... but maybe he could use this chance to bond. Nick and Eddie weren’t like the rich brats he had grown up around. Surprisingly, they hadn’t distanced themselves from him despite his sharp tongue.
Maybe he could actually make friends, or at least have someone on his side. He needed to find a way to get closer to Archie’s team. At the very least, they might help to dig up some gossip about Archie. Doing it himself... well, he was not exactly great at dealing with people.
"Oh, five o’clock! I gave her a solid 7.2!" Eddie said suddenly, elbowing Nick and gesturing at a girl walking past.
Micah looked over. The girl was petite and cute. "Umm", he hummed. "But that outfit? 5.8 at best."
Nick laughed, nearly tipping over his own feet. "He judges like a fashion critic. Harsh!"
"Well, I am a fashion design major! I can’t help it." Micah said, shrugging his shoulders.
Emile glanced at him but held back his remark.
Eddie had clearly never seen so many girls in one place. He pointed left and right, throwing out ratings like a game show host. "That’s one a 6.8. Ooh, that one’s an 8, no, 8.3!"
Micah rubbed his forehead and snapped. "Stop! One more rating and I’ll help you see your ancestors personally."
Eddie zipped his lips but snickered behind his hand.
As they walked, their conversation shifted to more casual topics, like silly things about their hometown. Emile stayed quiet but listened.
"What about you, Emile??" Nick asked suddenly.
"I don’t really have a hometown," Emile said, voice soft. "My parents always moved around for work. Different countries, different cities."
Nick’s eyes lit up. "Wow? Really? That must be fun! So, you’ve tried like every food they were famous for? That’s my dream life!"
"It’s not as glamorous as it sounds," Emile said, but a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Hometown isn’t a place," Eddie chimed in. "It’s where your heart is."
"No," Nick corrected, grinning. "It’s where your wife is from. That’s your true hometown."
Micah shook his head, smiling.
Emile looked at them, feeling a bit better. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad.
"Aren’t you hungry?" Nick asked Emile, "You skipped lunch. Let’s grab something!"
"You are just fishing for a reason to eat..." Micah said, already labelling Nick as a foodie.
Nick dismissed Micah’s remark, staring at Emile. "When we came in, I saw a whole alley of food stalls," he said, drooling at the corner of his mouth.
"I can’t. I have dinner with my uncle and cousins later." Emile hesitated.
"What? You haven’t eaten anything, and now it’s only three o’clock!" Eddie said with a scoff. "You’ll digest it before then!
"No, I don’t want to gain weight."
"Hey! You are skin and bones! And you’re worrying about getting fat?!" Micah said incredulously.
"No, I am in fine arts. Looks matter most!" Emile defended himself.
"Ah, I saw a fresh juice stall over there too! Come on!" Nick said.
Eventually, they found themselves in the famous food alley near the east campus gate.
Stalls lined the path like a festive street, each one more colourful than the last. Spices hung in the air, mingling with the scent of sizzling meat and sweet syrup.
Micah pulled out his phone and texted Darcy.
RogueOverlord: Did you finish? We are at the east gate. Come over.
With that, he put his phone away and dove into a frenzy of trying everything.
By the time Darcy arrived, he found Micah holding five skewers of grilled meat in one hand and a fish ball and squid skewer in the other.
His cheeks were stuffed as he chewed like a hamster, eyes lit up with glee.
Darcy chuckled. "Cute," he murmured, before calling out. "You’re gonna get a stomachache if you keep eating like that."
