From Villain to Virtual Sweetheart: The Fake Heir's Grand Scheme(BL) -
Chapter 79: Silver Hair, Silver Rank, Big Trouble
Chapter 79: Silver Hair, Silver Rank, Big Trouble
After speaking a quick strategy in the team chat, Darcy directed his team’s jungler and top laner to intercept the enemy jungler and tank. With that handled, he began searching for the enemy top laner.
His finger moved rapidly, scanning the maps. Since he had already eliminated the enemy mid-laner, the enemy’s top laner had become cautious.
Earlier, Darcy had nearly caught him pushing too far forward without vision coverage, perfect for an ambush. But that chance had passed. Now he could only wait for his next move.
Staying behind and waiting had become dangerous. Every idle second gave the enemy time to farm gold, steal jungle buffs, and gain vision over crucial map zones. Darcy glanced at the gold counter, and his jaw clenched.
Screw it.
"I am going to loot," Darcy said suddenly into the voice chat, already moving.
He didn’t wait for a reply. As his champion moved swiftly through the river, a natural pass between lanes, Darcy paused.
Movement...
A figure stepped into view, directly across the river.
Darcy’s mouse stilled.
The enemy top laner had arrived.
It was unusual for a top laner to roam this early in the game without losing their lane control.
Most stuck to their lanes to build power, fearing to miss out on experience or gold.
That was rare.
The name hovered above the character’s head: DiabolicDestroyer
In a flash of motion, the top laner threw out a wide-range attack, sending Darcy flying back from the river, cutting off his exit route.
A moment later, a flash combo came flying out of nowhere. Reflex kicked in. Darcy moved back, dodging the worst of the blast. Still, half of his health bar vanished.
Darcy gritted his teeth. That was too clean. The opponent didn’t chase. Instead, they stood at the edge of the river brush, watching. Waiting. Playing mind games.
Darcy’s fingers hovered over his abilities. It felt like being studied.
He narrowed his eyes and threw a skillshot, testing the enemy’s reaction.
The enemy sidestepped before it even launched. Darcy’s breath caught.
He was a professional player! Darcy realised. One that he had confidence in his own skills.
Meanwhile, Micah sat on the edge of his seat, eyes glued to the screen.
Why did that vice-captain target Darcy?! What the hell is going on?
Then another clash came fast. Darcy faked a retreat, then darted in, combining with perfect execution. His damage landed clean, but the enemy responded instantly, predicting the full trade and countering with perfect spacing and punishing blows. Darcy barely escaped with slivers of health, ducking into the jungle brush.
Text flooded the chat:
[Red] DiabolicDestroyer: DarkVyne’s got teeth. Finally, some fun.
[Red] PoisonIvy: Go! Go! Another hit and he is toast!
[All] KillerKitten: That’s our SilverBlade power!
[All] EasySweep: what?!
[All] PVPMaster: so it was all bark and no bite?
[All] SplatterDemons: when you slay him come here and brag
[All] NinjaInPajamas: maybe it’s true? No one from his team is denying it...
[All] PVPMaster: what a letdown! DiabolicDestroyer is a whole rank below him!
Darcy’s eyebrow rose. He was one rank below?
Then Micah spoke hesitantly. "Don’t 1v1 him again," he warned, his tone softer now. "That’s SilverBlade’s vice-captain. They are in the top ten."
Darcy’s fingers froze. He turned his head, giving Micah a brief, searching look. "You know him?"
Micah shook his head, a little too fast. "No. Just figured it out from the chat log."
But Darcy wasn’t convinced. There was something else in Micah’s expression, tight shoulders, drawn lips, like he had been holding something back.
He thought Micah’s sudden change in mood earlier made sense now. He probably knew them.
Still, there was no time to press. DiabolicDestroyer was already pushing through the river again, closing in. The air grew tense with every step his champion took toward Darcy. He wanted a fight. One on one.
Darcy didn’t retreat. The way Micah spoke about this top laner made him believe in his sixth sense more.
Micah was already moving. He couldn’t fight DiabolicDestroyer directly, his support pick was an enchanter, barely capable of dodging meaningful damage. But that didn’t mean he was useless.
Micah’s champion hovered just outside the enemy range, hiding.
The first clash was brutal. DiabolicDestroyer caught Darcy mid-wave, forcing a flash, but Micah dropped a stun at the right moment, surprising the top laner, halting the all-in and throwing at Darcy a well-timed speed buff.
They ran, darting between brush, backtracking, tossing abilities blindly to cover their retreat.
The enemy chased relentlessly, forcing them to a dead end.
Micah’s hands flew over his keyboard. What the hell was that top laner doing? What the hell was this cat-and-mouse crap? Was he toying with them?
"Fuck! This damn SilverBlade Legions!" he growled.
Darcy just glanced at him, his jaw tightening.
The longer the chase dragged on, the clearer it became that Micah could not keep pace with Darcy’s tempo.
Micah glanced at the mini-map, heart thudding. Then he saw it.
Their jungler had been farming in silence.
Then it clicked.
He remembered from the novel that Archie’s team’s significant tactic was to ambush the enemy team at the least expected time.
The moment DiabolicDestroyer speeded up to catch up to them, Micah dropped a deep ward in the jungle, revealing the enemy support and jungler creeping in behind.
A trap! He knew it!
Darcy reacted instantly. He didn’t hesitate. He dropped his ultimate, not to kill but to delay.
From the shadows, their own jungler appeared, blazing across the lane, a deadly assassin champion with a massive gold lead.
Double kill.
SyberSlay has slain PoisonIvy.
SyberSlay has slain ManiaGunner.
Darcy surged forward. Along with their tank and top laner, they began their attack on the tower.
The enemy Tank tried to hold, but without backup, he failed.
The inhibitor ( a core structure) exploded in a flash of blue, and the nexus followed seconds later.
Victory....
And yet...
DiabolicDestroyer stood alone behind the fountain shield, health bar full. Watching.
No kill, no defeat. Just a silent stare across the virtual battlefield.
The game ended. The screen flashed "Victory" in front of Darcy and Micah.
But neither of them felt happy.
******
Across the city, Archie shifted in his gaming chair, one hand resting against his chin.
He stared at the screen for a moment, then exhaled through his nose, half a scoff, half a laugh.
The support, the one with the silver rank, was the one who had discovered their ambush, their trap.
His finger drummed once again his chin.
Was it just a fluke? FrostbiteAshe...
DarkVyne was too promising... but his interest had shifted to the support.
Archie spun his chair slightly, eyes flickering from the screen to Zian and Lulu. "What do you two know about their support?! Anything at all?!"
Zian scratched his head. "Like I said before... he is the guy who usually dies first in every match. Not much else."
Lulu paused. "I’ve heard he is related to that live streamer... what’s her name again? DemonDuchess. And..."
"And what?" Zian asked, curious.
"They call him Frosty not just because of his username but because he’s got actual snow-white hair."
"How the hell do they know that?!" Zian blinked.
"One of DemonDuchess’s friends apparently saw his picture and accidentally mentioned it during a stream," Lulu said. "Might be true. Or just chat gossip gone wild."
"There is more, isn’t there?" Archie stared at her.
Lulu glanced at Zian first, then exhaled slowly. "Yeah...supposedly, he is a freshman at QC uni... and um... people say he is really handsome. If he ever streamed with his face, he would go viral in a heartbeat."
Archie raised an eyebrow. "Handsome with snow-white hair, huh?"
Zian whistled. "Damn. You ever seen a guy like that in real life?"
"Only on survival idol shows..." Lulu replied with a laugh. "And even then, they pay a ton to bleach and tone it till it looks natural... even the upkeep is costly..."
Archie threw his head back and laughed aloud.
He had only seen one guy like that before. And he hadn’t forgotten him.
