Chapter 150: Help, My Guardian Angel Has a Hidden Agenda!

The elevator moved up slowly, stopping at every floor as more people got on and off.

The tight space didn’t help Micah’s nerves. His back was pressed lightly against the wall, his arms folded as he tried to shrink into himself.

Beside him, Clyde leaned in slightly, his voice low and soft. "I have a room here," he murmured, the warmth of his breath brushing past Micah’s ear. "You could hide in there until you think it’s safe..."

Micah shivered. He wasn’t sure if it was from fear of Clyde recognising him or from the ticklish warmth in his ear. Either way, he nodded quickly. "Okay..."

A quiet chuckle escaped Clyde’s lips. "You’re too trusting, little miss... what if I was a bad guy? You shouldn’t say yes so easily."

Micah glanced away, the tips of his ears pink. "I believe in my judgment. You are a good man," he mumbled.

Clyde sighed with a slight smile. "So naive..."

The elevator dinged at the fifteenth floor. Clyde stepped out casually. Micah hesitated, looking left and right, before quickly following him while clutching his midsection. His coat felt too warm now, sticking to his back with sweat. He walked with small, careful steps, worried that if he moved wrong, his breast pads might fall out.

Clyde stopped at a door, pulled out a key card, and unlocked it with a beep. The door opened smoothly, and he stepped aside to let Micah in. "You can use this room..." he said in a calm tone, but his voice turned firm suddenly. "But please... don’t make a risky move again. It’s the second time I’ve seen you. Both times...you were in dangerous situations."

Micah flinched. He turned his head in slow motion and met Clyde’s eyes which were filled with a smile.

"What?" Micah said hoarsely.

"Have you forgotten already? I saw you that day. You were following a suspicious man into a shady agency. I was worried, so I followed you." Clyde chuckled. "Well, you didn’t need my help at all. You were done with them when I got there."

Micah’s legs went stiff. He felt dread creeping into his body. He feared what Clyde would say next. What if he said ’I know you are a boy, Micah?’

Micah felt dizzy, his knees felt weak. He swayed a little. And Clyde steadied him by grabbing his arm.

His brows furrowed as he gently pulled Micah forward and guided him to the sofa. "What’s going on?" Clyde said, kneeling down in front of him. His voice lost its teasing edge. "Are you okay?"

Micah blinked slowly, then gave a faint shake of his head.

Clyde sat beside him but leaned slightly forward, watching him closely.

He hadn’t meant to scare him like this. He just wanted to tease him a little, pay him back for the chaos he had stirred. He hadn’t expected this reaction.

When Clyde’s assistant informed him that Micah had arrived at the Charity gala, he had left his room and quietly stepped into the venue. He stood in the shadows, just watching.

Clyde had easily spotted Micah even though he had changed his style. He had picked up his phone, ready to send a message as Aidan.

But he saw Micah snap his head in surprise upon hearing voices. Then he panicked and began to walk. Aidan also chased after him.

Clyde’s lips had pressed into a firm line. His phone trembled slightly in his grip. He wanted Micah to figure it out on his own that Aidan was the same man from the lounge, the one he had met as Alex Ford. But something definitely had happened for Micah to recognise Aidan’s voice from a few feet away!

He wasn’t sure what was going on. He slipped out of the hall, angry without knowing why. The feeling was messy and raw. He hated not understanding it.

His wooden prayer beads, which usually calmed him, were missing from his wrist today. He was at a loss as to what to do.

He had entered the elevator to stay away from Micah and cool his head. But somehow, Micah had found him again.

Clyde, still bitter about the way Micah’s familiarity with Aidan had shaken him, decided to throw him off by bringing up the shady agency.

Now he sat beside him, pale-faced and trembling. He regretted his action.

Micah glanced at those worried blue eyes and spoke slowly. "Sorry, I think I just got a little lightheaded. I haven’t eaten in a few hours..."

Clyde’s expression turned icy. He stood up suddenly and walked to the table. His hands moved quickly, pouring hot water into a cup and adding a few sugar knobs. He stirred it, then walked back and handed it to Micah.

"Here. Sip it slowly."

Micah took the cup with both hands, feeling the heat through the ceramic. He sipped carefully. It was sweet and warm, and he could already feel his head clearing a bit.

Clyde watched him sternly. "Why was a young girl like you running away in fright? Did he do something to you? Are you in trouble?"

Micah shook his head. "No... That man has an explosive temper. Last time he lost it when I handed him the box he was waiting for. I was scared a bit..," Micah lied, looking down.

Clyde pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew Micah was lying. What should he do with this little troublemaker? He didn’t want to let him get away easily otherwise he would do it again. In a few days, this boy would probably forget all about this scare and happily go crossdressing, poking another hornet’s nest.

Better to teach him a lesson. To engrave in his head that Clyde would not be there every time to clean up after his mess, protecting him from dangerous men like Aidan. An idea formed in his mind.

"Okay. I believe you for now. I’ll help you leave the hotel tonight. But you should return the favour." Clyde said.

Micah snapped his head up. "What favour?"

"I need someone to act as my partner..." he said, glancing from top to bottom. "You fit the criteria."

Micah’s eyes flew wide. His mouth opened into a stunned O. "I’m sorry. What did you just say?"

"I said," Clyde repeated calmly. "You will be my girlfriend when I need you to. No strings attached. I can also pay you..."

Micah nearly dropped the cup.

"No freaking way!" Micah shot to his feet, yelling in a high-pitched voice. Still trying to maintain his girl facade.

Clyde raised an eyebrow in interest.

Micah sat down quickly, hiding his chest. His ears turned red. He was just surprised Clyde would do something like that! Asking a stranger to be his pretend girlfriend? Not knowing even her name or background? Was he always this shallow? He gritted his teeth in anger.

What guardian angel? More like a demonic, sly scoundrel!
