Chapter 135: Micah’s Side Quest: Spotted by the Boss
Returning to campus, Micah went straight to his class. He didn’t talk to anyone. He didn’t smile, not even the sarcastic one. His notebook stayed mostly empty. His pen rested in his hand, unmoving. He didn’t even look up when the lecturer called his name once. By the time classes ended, he had no idea what had been taught. The words had just blurred into noise.
The building and roads were filled with students chatting and laughing, but it all felt far away from him. His ears rang, not from sound, but from the weight in his chest.
When he finally made it back to the dorm, his footsteps were slow, dragging. His roommates noticed right away.
Nick looked up from his desk. "Hey..." he started, but Micah didn’t respond. He just walked straight to his bed, collapsed on it, and stared at the ceiling with dead eyes.
He didn’t move. Even his breathing sounded slower.
No one said anything.
Not even Eddie. That said a lot.
His low mood made even his roommates walk on eggshells around him. Until now, everyone knew Micah had a temper. It wasn’t loud or flashy, but it burned. He could go off with just one word wrong. It was scary. No one wanted to be the one that detonated this ticking bomb.
After half an hour, the suffocating tension did not ease.
Emile leaned toward Nick and whispered. "Did you ask Darcy?"
"Yeah," Nick whispered back. "He said not to ask and leave him alone."
"So technically even he doesn’t know the reason?" Emile narrowed his eyes.
"I think so too. He said it’s probably about hospital stuff." Nick replied. "But maybe they had a fight? Micah don’t care about anyone except Darcy."
Emile nodded in agreement. His fingers hovered over his phone, the screen lighting up his thoughtful expression.
His two cousins had already blown up his phone since this morning, sending message after message about Micah and Darcy. Telling him to focus on them. Push them to be closer! What the hell even that meant Emile didn’t want to know. In his mind, his two cousins were firmly categorised as lunatics. Probably it was the effect of living with his little uncle.
At first, he thought their request would be easy. Micah and Darcy were always hanging out with each other. But now it seemed something happened. That even Darcy was out of the loop.
Emile’s brows pulled together as he quickly typed up a message. He sent it to both Jacklin and Dean, telling them about the news. That Micah and Darcy had probably fallen out.

Clyde’s phone buzzed on the table again. And again.
He sighed and finally picked it up. The screen was filled with notifications. All from Jacklin. He opened her messages and started scrolling.
LioNessQueen: Little Uncle! Where are you?! Quick! Asena asked me how to return the container! Could you go to QC uni?
Clyde read the text, stunned. What?
He looked at his watch. 8:30 pm.
How could Micah return it to him now? Dressed as Asena? Could he disguise himself as a girl in a dorm? Or somewhere else? That would be risky. What was so urgent? A container? That didn’t make sense.
RiverBridge: Are you sure? Now?
LioNessQueen: Yes! She texted me a few times. I only saw it now. Could you please go?
Not a single word about Emile, who was literally right there in the dorm.
Interesting. What Jacklin was scheming?
Clyde’s curiosity was raised.
RiverBridge: Have you told her I am going instead of you?
LioNessQueen: No way. If I told her, she would cancel it for sure!
Clyde raised an eyebrow. So his assumption was correct. His niece was plotting something against him. And Micah probably was being dragged into it too. What could she tell him to make him come as Asena?
RiverBridge: Fine. I’ll go. Which gate? What time?
There was a pause. Clyde stood from his chair, already reaching for his coat.
LioNessQueen: West gate. In front of the food stall alley. In half an hour.
Clyde slipped on his jacket and strode toward the door.
He wanted to know what exactly was going on. And catch the look on Micah’s eyes when he saw him. Of course, he wasn’t going to show up as someone related to Jacklin. But street food? After yesterday? Micah certainly had not learned his lesson.
*****
Half an hour earlier:
Micah sat on his bed in the dorm, slouched over with his hoodie pulled halfway over his face. His hands moved slowly as he switched to his other WeChat account. SugerPlumFairyIsLeo’sWife.
He didn’t want to think anymore. His mind was heavy, worn out from running in circles about the future. He needed something to distract him. A break. His brooding over his ending in the novel had exhausted his mind. He knew he could not make a decision quickly. He wanted to read some funny messages from Majestic King’s fan group to boost his mood. They were always comical.
He was surprised to see many messages from Big sister. He opened them, curious.
LioNessQueen: How are you? I’m sorry to bother you. Can I ask you for a favour?
Micah squinted.
LioNessQueen: Could you grab some food for my cousin? She got stuck in a lab all day because of a mistake. She is really depressed. She likes street food, not the kind they deliver. Could you get some and put it in the container? Just leave it at the west gate, she will collect it later.
Micah read the message in disbelief. What was she even talking about? So now he was reduced to an errand boy? No, correction, an errand girl?
He groaned and rubbed his face. This is what he got for accepting that meal in the first place. See, now he could not even refuse! But wasn’t her cousin a guy? Did he remember that wrong?
SugerPlumFairyIsLeo’sWife: Sure. I’ll head out soon. What name should I give the security guard?
LioNessQueen: You are a lifesaver. Thanks. Just say it’s from Jacklin.
SugerPlumFairyIsLeo’sWife: No problem. I’m on my way. Tell your cousin to come 30 mins later.
Micah let out another sigh, grabbing the container, he headed out.
He didn’t care if that cousin saw him instead of Asena. He could just use the same lie as before. That he was her boyfriend and doing errands for her.
After this, he was done doing favours for people. Micah swore he would not accept anything from anyone anymore! He wasn’t the type to eat from a hand and then bite it!
He reached the busy food stall area near the west gate. Bright lights. Smokey smells. Students laughing and lining up.
He glanced at the list Big sister had sent him to buy. Well, her cousin surely had a big appetite!
He found a takoyaki stall and got in line. He watched the batter cook, the vendor flipping the golden balls quickly. His stomach made a growling sound. Micah’s face turned a shade of beetroot from embarrassment.
He realised he had not eaten anything since the breakfast he had with Darcy.
After ordering, Micah popped one into his mouth. His stomach protested the greasy heavy taste but Micah didn’t care. He just wanted to stop it from making embarrassing noise again.
Then he added a few more snacks to the container, grilled skewers, mini fried buns and some rice cakes.
As he packed everything inside, he turned around. And froze.
Standing just a few feet away, dressed in a black coat over a crisp business suit, was Clyde.
Clyde’s gaze met his. Calm. Direct. Almost amused.
Micah’s heart stopped. He felt like he had been caught red-handed. His hand tightened on the container.
Clyde, with his serious elite aura, stuck out like a sore thumb in the crowd of college students.
Why was he here?
