Chapter 108: The Silver-Haired Zorro and His Blue-Eyed Bernardo

Chapter 108: The Silver-Haired Zorro and His Blue-Eyed Bernardo

It was just past noon, and the military canteen was buzzing with conversation, clattering trays, and low hum of fans. Seth McKay sat in the farthest corner alone, hunched over his lunch tray, a spoonful of steaming rice halfway to his mouth, when his phone vibrated in his pocket. He quickly glanced at the screen, then pressed the green button with his thumb, not bothering to stop chewing.

"Hey..." he said, his voice slightly muffled, rice still in his mouth.

"I checked the boy," William said on the other end.

That made Seth straighten slightly, the spoon still hovering in the air. He swallowed hastily and grabbed the bottle of water, washing it down before speaking again.

"Really? So what was the result? Is he the one?"

There was a pause. "It’s complicated."

"Hmm?! Complicated how?!"

William exhaled through the line. "He is the young master of a wealthy family. Apparently, he had been taking self-defence classes for years, which explains the physique, the quick reaction."

Seth raised an eyebrow, finally putting the spoon back in his tray. "So? Couldn’t he just want to play hero more because of pseudo-confidence from those classes?"

"He doesn’t have a motive, Seth. There is no reason for him to go out of his way to help. No connection to Leo. No admiration. Not one of his fans. Nothing. And if we put that aside, there is another problem. Why would he cover his tracks from the beginning? Had he known about the trap somehow? Why would he carry a stranger and jump balconies? His actions were like someone who knew the future. His timing and his choices didn’t feel random. They feel deliberate. Yet, the reason behind it? Still a complete mystery." William said.

"Oh, wow! I can’t remember the last time you talked this much. I am now jealous of him," Seth said with a smile.

William did not comment on his teasing and moved to his next point. "Aside from the motives and his foresight, he is the nephew of Lieutenant General Owen Booker’s wife."

Seth choked on his bite, coughing into his fist. "Fucking hell! He has that kind of backing?!"

"What I mean is, he has the capacity to wipe every trace of himself," William said after a sigh. "But I didn’t find any proof that he was in that hotel that night or any reason for his mysterious act."

Seth wiped his mouth with a napkin, a crease forming between his brows.

"Yeah... what about his personality?"

"That’s the other problem. His reputation isn’t exactly clean. Known to be arrogant, a prick, and difficult to deal with."

Seth snorted. "Perfect. That kind of personality usually can’t shut up about their own heroics. If he really did help someone, he’d be shouting from the rooftops like a walking megaphone. So why cover it?"

"Umm", William hummed.

Seth chewed on his food absentmindedly. "What’s your take on all of this?"

"I believe the possibility is really low," Willian replied.

"Yeah, same here..." Seth said with a low grunt. "Good thing I didn’t say anything to Leo. Anyway, let’s keep him on the watchlist just in case."

"Umm..." There was a brief pause on the line before William added awkwardly, "Eat your lunch properly."

Seth smirked. "Yes, daddy," he said with exaggerated affection.

A growl came from the other end, followed by a hoarse voice. "Behave..." then the call disconnected.

Seth burst out laughing, drawing a few odd looks from nearby students. He leaned back in his chair, still chuckling. The way William reacted to his teasing was priceless. He liked it when William got frustrated, not knowing how to deal with him.

Of course, at the end of the day, he was the one suffering. But he liked it when William lost his calm because of him. At those times, Seth had a blast.

Seth smiled and returned his attention to the canteen, letting his gaze drift.

He spotted Micah easily with that silver hair, eating with a few others, chatting animatedly and laughing. No arrogance. No rudeness. If anything, Seth thought, the kid had been surprisingly well-behaved. Participated in all the drills without complaint. Helped his fellow trainee. No arguments. No fights. No signs of entitlement. Not what you would expect from some spoiled heir.

In these two days, Seth had found the young man pleasant to the eye.

He had every good qualification for joining the military.

But knowing he was an heir to a business empire, the possibility of his joining was down to zero. Seth shook his head and resumed his eating.

Meanwhile, in a sleek office, Clyde Du Pont was listening to his assistant report while working on his laptop.

The assistant stood near the desk, shifting nervously.

"Sir, we have halted the investigation on your orders. But something new came up. We found others also searching for someone near the fan meeting and the second hotel."

Clyde’s gaze lifted, sharp and alert. "Go on."

"There were two separate groups. One was from higher up in the military. They are looking for a young man with snow-white hair."

Clyde paused. "Young man? Not a girl? And the Military? Why would they be involved?"

"We’re still looking into it. But the second group is from Twilight Entertainment. They are trying to track down the person who had helped Leo McKay avoid that scandal involving his manager and the actress."

Clyde raised a hand, gesturing. "Explain in detail."

The assistant swallowed. "Apparently, Leo should have been there instead of his manager. Twilight Entertainment is searching for the person who helped take down the actress and the manager before they could humiliate Leo. Knocked them out cold."

"Is your source reliable?"

"Yeah. The manager went crazy at the police station and rambled about everything before his lawyer arrived and denied it all, claiming he was under the influence."

Clyde’s eyes narrowed. "And the military?!"

"Seems like they might be after the same individual. They were checking the two rooms beside Leo’s hotel room."

"Does anyone connected to the scandal have military ties?!" Clyde asked.

"Yes, Sir. Leo’s brother is a Sergeant. And his brother-in-law is a high-ranking officer," the assistant replied.

"Silver hair...Don’t tell me..." Clyde murmured, pinching the bridge of his nose.

An image flashed in his mind. Three men were beaten up while lying on the ground at the fake modelling agency. With how impulsive he was in that studio, Clyde couldn’t rule out Micah as the one who meddled in that scandal. Especially since he had dressed up as a fan girl that day. Micah probably had heard something and came back to help Leo. But was it just a good Samaritan act? Was he disguising himself as a girl to get close to Jacklin, or did he really have a thing for Leo?! Clyde’s blue eyes turned dark. First Aidan Wilson, now Leo McKay...

"Keep watching them," he ordered. "Discreetly. If they seem to get a clue about Micah, notify me immediately."

The assistant bowed slightly. "Understood."

As the door closed behind him, Clyde leaned back on his chair, head resting on the edge. He glanced at the ceiling and chuckled.

"What are you now? Zorro?"

He put his hand over his tired eyes. "And I become his butler, Bernardo, helping him to cover his night wanderings."
