Chapter 105: The Boyfriend Reveal

When Micah and Emile left the security kiosk, their footsteps fading into the distance, the guard chuckled to himself and reached for his phone. He entered a number and dialled it.

The call connected quickly. "Hello?" came a woman’s voice on the other end.

"Ah, yes, miss. Your cousin and his friend just came by to collect the packages you left."

"His friend?" Jacklin repeated, her voice filled with surprise. "What friend?"

"Yeah, a boy. Said he was collecting it on behalf of his girlfriend, SugerPlumFairy... that name."

There was a pause on the line. Then a sudden shriek, muffled by Jacklin trying to hold it back.

"What?! She has a boyfriend? Are you sure? He said the right name?"

"Sure did," the guard said with a grin in his voice. "The boy turned beetroot, uttering the WeChat ID. Never heard anything so funny come out of a guy’s mouth."

"Oh my god. Boyfriend? Are you sure that’s what he said? Not brother or relative?"

"Positive. He was embarrassed but said it aloud. Couldn’t miss it."

Jacklin sighed and ran a hand down her face. "Thanks. Can you describe him? What was he like?"

"Hm...Handsome. Kinda tall, lean, wore glasses. His hair was..." the guard paused, clearly trying to find the right word. "Light. I wouldn’t know what you call it, but maybe light grey?"

There was silence on the line for a moment.

"Anyway," the guard continued. "He seemed polite enough. Took the soup and ran off like his life depended on it."

Jacklin exhaled deeply. "Thanks for letting me know. I will do what I promised."

"Anytime, miss."

Jacklin ended the call and looked at her uncle.

The phone had been on speaker, and the entire conversation echoed through the living room. The news was so abrupt that no one spoke.

Her thoughts drifted back to earlier in the evening, just after Dean had returned from their little uncle’s study. His expression had been grim as he said their uncle would not join them for dinner.

Then, surprisingly, their uncle entered the kitchen a few minutes later, glancing at the steaming pots on the stove, and said in a quiet voice. "Pack meals for Emile. And send one to Asena."

Jacklin’s jaw had hit the floor at that moment.

Was it their uncle saying those words?!

"You’re serious?" she had asked.

Clyde had only looked at her with mild exasperation, as though she were the one being strange. "Yes."

No explanation. Just direct instruction.

Naturally, she had obeyed. Still bewildered, she had sent two containers full of food to the QC university in a hurry and asked the guard to keep an eye out, letting her know when and who came to pick it up.

Then she sent messages to Asena, but they remained unread. She was losing hope when a reply came.

SugerPlumFairyIsLeo’sWife: Thank you, big sister. You worry too much.

Jacklin had quickly typed the two messages as their uncle had instructed.

LoiNessQueen: Our nanny made some nutritious soups for my cousin, and I sent some for you, too.

LoiNessQueen: Before you say no, I left it with the security guard at the north gate. Just go and say your WeChat ID, and he will give it to you.

Then at the same time, she sent one to Emile.

Once again, it was something strange. But neither she nor Dean asked for the reason. They just felt sorry for Emile. It was evident the purpose of all this was Asena.

And now it turned out the meal wasn’t picked up by Asena but by a boy claiming to be her boyfriend?

And who was the boy who collected the food... Emile’s roommate?!

Jacklin couldn’t wrap her head around the information. At first, she had thought their uncle had realised his feelings and had begun to pursue Asena. But now his calm and composed reaction toward the news made her realise she had been wrong. Their uncle hadn’t been trying to curry favour with Asena by sending food, no...

"Uncle, you knew Asena had a boyfriend?" Jacklin asked sharply, staring at those pale blue eyes.

"Boyfriend..." Clyde murmured in amusement, tugging at his prayer beads.

Jacklin blinked. Her gaze dropped to the wooden prayer. Every question froze on the tip of her tongue, afraid to press further.

Dean, who had been sitting on the couch and had listened to the call, wasn’t doing any better. The mystery behind their uncle’s mood swings, albeit subtle, finally made sense.

"Wait a minute...Micah Ramsy is Asena’s boyfriend? Is that why you told Emile to stay close to him? Asking those strange questions?" Dean blurted out, unable to hold back his curiosity.

Jacklin turned to stare at him. "Huh, you knew?!"

At that moment, Clyde calmly stood up. "It’s late." he walked toward his room at his usual pace. "And don’t mention her or her boyfriend again."

Jacklin and Dean watched him disappear behind the door, stunned into silence.

Jacklin was the first to speak. "Uncle... did he just give up?"

Dean frowned. "Hmmm?! He would never snatch a girl from others..." he rubbed his forehead. "That’s not the issue here. I am going crazy....How the hell did he know that was her boyfriend?"

"What do you mean??"

"We brought the boy to the hospital last night."

"No way! He was the one Emile cancelled our dinner for?"

Dean nodded. "Yeah. He saw him just once and knew it?! How was that possible?"

"Ahh... we could never know how his mind works. I guess that’s genius for you." Jacklin said, shrugging.

"Ummm...." Dean hummed.

"But don’t you think he kinda was in a good mood? Shouldn’t it be the opposite?" Jacklin said.

"Yeah... I thought so too..."

Both of them turned to look toward Clyde’s door, now quietly closed.

Inside, Clyde slowly unfastened the cuffs of his shirt, the fabric slipping down his arms. His face, usually impassive and severe, now held a faint bemused smile.

Earlier, he had told himself to stop thinking about Asena or rather Micah Ramsy. It had been a waste of his energy. But a nagging thought had stayed with him.

Micah was a foodie. A real one. The kind who ended up in the Emergency Room because he couldn’t resist the street food.

Luring him to show his furry paws should be easy. So he had formed that plan.

The moment the guard described the boy with silver hair, glasses and a flushed face mumbling SugerPlumFairy, Clyde had known.

And the boy had revealed himself just like that.

A chuckle escaped his lips as he unbuttoned the rest of his shirt.

"Stupid....but cute," Clyde mumbled, the words surprising even him.

This kind of comment coming out of his mouth... that was first.

Shaking his head, Clyde stepped into the bathroom. As he took off his undershirt, the faint scars on his back glittered under the lights. Old wounds. Reminders of years past. But tonight, for once, they didn’t throb.
