Chapter 997: Reunited (Part 5)

She hadn’t expected that in her absence, Dayeon Xinyue—the so-called most beautiful woman on the Mystic Void Continent—would be drawn to Kenny Lin.

"I’ve forgotten. But I do remember they almost ruined one of my plans," Kenny Lin said dismissively, clearly uninterested in remembering insignificant people.

"Ruined your plans?"

"I was setting up an ambush for a Deity Transformation stage wandering spirit in Heavenly Flames hall. They thought they were clever and lured the spirit over, but their little trick got seen through."

"Why would they help you lure a wandering spirit of that level?" Amalia was curious. She didn’t think the women of the Divine Maiden Sect were that altruistic.

"How would I know what they were thinking? Maybe they wanted to snatch the spirit orb for themselves? That woman probably had some hidden agenda." He paused, voice dropping slightly. "Luckily, she didn’t act against me then. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have let it go so easily."

Amalia was satisfied. This drama king’s emotional intelligence must all be reserved for me, she mused.

"Let’s move forward." She kept her tone neutral.

"You still haven’t answered me—are you jealous?" Kenny Lin asked, his eyes gleaming with delight at the thought. If Amalia truly got jealous, maybe next time he could stage something to make her experience that feeling again.

His little wife was perfect in many ways, but her overly rational nature made it nearly impossible for him to find opportunities to stir her emotions.

"If I said yes, would you plan to make me jealous more often?" Amalia’s sharp black eyes glinted, her expression betraying a piercing insight into his thoughts.

"Of course not! How could you think that? You know me better than that," Kenny Lin denied instantly.

"Good," Amalia replied, retracting her gaze.

Kenny Lin exhaled a breath of relief but couldn’t help pushing further. "But what if you were jealous?"

"Then you’d probably find yourself jealous as well," Amalia said with a slight smirk as she turned around and walked away without looking back.

"You wouldn’t dare!" Kenny Lin snapped, clearly irritated.

Amalia ignored him. She would never intentionally provoke anyone, but knowing this vinegar jar’s tendencies, it wouldn’t take much. A glance or two from someone else was enough to set him off, so it was bound to happen sooner or later.

While she rarely spoke of her appearance, she was well aware that she didn’t look bad.

"Are they arguing?"

Kenny Lin suddenly yelled in apparent anger, his expression stormy, startling everyone around them.

"It’s nothing; they’re just joking," Renshu Chang said casually, clearly unbothered and quick to explain.

Some of the senior disciples noted that Renshu Chang seemed to know more about the situation but refrained from asking further. They weren’t the type to pry into others’ business.

"The number of wandering spirits seems to be decreasing," someone commented, redirecting the group’s focus to the situation ahead.

Their attention turned to the main hall of Celestial Harmony Hall. Behind the grand throne lay the gateway to another space, from which the wandering spirits continued pouring out.

Another similar location was Eight Pillars Hall.

The sheer number of wandering spirits was overwhelming. Had they not been gathered together but instead scattered across the Immortal Palace, they might have already been surrounded and killed.

When gathered together, if someone runs out of strength, others can immediately step in to cover for them. Most importantly, they don’t need to worry about being backstabbed by their companions.

Those who chose to stay behind now realized how wise their decision had been.

If the members of the Eternal One Sect or Demonic Night Sect had stayed, no one would feel safe turning their back on them.

As the number of wandering spirits dwindled, the flow of spirits from behind the throne gradually ceased. After dealing with the remaining few, everyone regrouped in the central hall of Celestial Harmony Hall.

"Do these spirits realize they’re no match for us and are giving up, or are they planning something bigger?" Woonho Dai wondered aloud.

"What’s the situation in Eight Pillars Hall next door?" Jirandal Tang asked.

Someone quickly returned to report. "It’s the same as here."

"Likely a bigger conspiracy. Given how much these spirits value the Immortal Spring, they wouldn’t just abandon the tokens we carry," Dayeon Xinyue said with a cold, composed expression.

"Then why have they stopped sending out spirits? Do they want us to go in? Or are they preparing to send out stronger ones?" Yunse Qiao questioned, voicing the group’s collective doubt.

"Don’t get too close," Renshu Chang warned when he noticed Amalia and Kenny Lin walking toward the doorway behind the throne.

Everyone turned around to see Kenny Lin poking his head through the door, only to pull it back quickly.

"What did you see?" Amalia asked, echoing everyone’s curiosity.

"Not a single wandering spirit in sight. It’s like they’re inviting us in. Maybe they can’t come out," Kenny Lin said with a sly smile.

Everyone froze in surprise.

"How can you be sure they can’t come out?" Chohwan Jin asked urgently.

Kenny Lin cast him a glance. "If the tokens are so important, why waste time sending out so many weak spirits that aren’t a match for us? They’ve lost so many of their forces yet still remain hidden. Are they truly indifferent or simply unable to come out? Clearly, it’s the latter."

"It’s also possible they see us as too weak to bother with," Woonho Dai offered another perspective.

After all, that’s what they’d initially assumed themselves—if the king has to intervene in every matter, what’s the point of having subordinates?

Kenny Lin pulled Amalia away from the door. "Then you all go in. We’ll wait here."

"When will you wait until, Martial Uncle?" Jirandal Tang stepped forward, suspicious of Kenny Lin’s intentions. This Martial Uncle was known for being unpredictable—perhaps he had sensed something unusual.

"Until the Immortal Spring opens," Kenny Lin replied lazily.

Everyone’s eyes lit up. The forces from other sects wouldn’t dare to ask such questions, but the disciples of the Green Lotus Sect felt no such hesitation. Seongwoo Jin eagerly inquired, "Martial Uncle, do you know when the Immortal Spring will open?"

"Didn’t you all want to go in? What difference does it make when it opens?" Kenny Lin replied with a faint, enigmatic smile.
