Chapter 990: Refining the Divine Artifact
Chapter 990: Refining the Divine Artifact
The Deity Transformation stage spirit knew all too well what they’d been up to; it had been calling out for reinforcements for ages, and not a single one had come. Their intentions were obvious.
Jinhwa Hou ignored Songji Yan and his companion, instead chasing after the fleeing Soul Formation spirits.
Perhaps sensing his intentions, the Deity Transformation stage spirit turned around to pursue Songji Yan and Yunse Qiao.
Amalia intercepted two of the Soul Formation spirits, while Jinhwa Hou went after another. After returning from his kill, he quickly dispatched another, tossing a few orbs over to her.
"I’ve finally broken through to Deity Transformation stage! The strength of this new power is astounding. I wonder if I’m the first one to reach Deity Transformation stage here. If so, that would be even more satisfying!"
"Highly unlikely," Amalia bluntly dismissed his fantasy.
"Yeah, I know it’s unlikely, but couldn’t you at least humor me a little? Let me enjoy the thought for a few seconds," Jinhwa Hou replied, exasperated.
"A breakthrough is nothing to be that excited about," Amalia responded indifferently.
Jinhwa Hou fell silent. Talking to Amalia never boosted his confidence; she was constantly making breakthroughs herself, so for her, they were hardly a cause for celebration.
"That pebble just now—was it you?" he asked.
Amalia gave a small nod. "Facing a Deity Transformation stage spirit wielding a demon artifact, even after your breakthrough, you’re not its match. Continuing would only benefit others watching from the shadows."
Jinhwa Hou didn’t deny it. "If I could refine this divine artifact, I’d definitely have a chance to beat it. Speaking of which, do you know where this artifact came from?"
Amalia considered it briefly. "Did Kenny give it to you?"
"You’re no fun—you guessed it right away," Jinhwa Hou complained, suddenly feeling deflated.
Amalia smiled slightly.
"How did you even guess that? Why didn’t you think I might have found it here in the Immortal Palace?" Jinhwa Hou asked, intrigued.
Amalia explained, "If you’d found it here, you wouldn’t have asked me. The fact that you brought it up at all probably means it has something to do with me, so I guessed. I didn’t expect to be right, though."
Jinhwa Hou sighed, impressed. "Unbelievable. It’s one thing to have heavenly talent, but intelligence, too? Aren’t you at all curious why martial uncle would give us a divine artifact? It’s a divine artifact, after all."
Amalia shook her head. "Not really. He gives things out all the time—either he finds them worthless, or he has more than he knows what to do with."
She didn’t mention that sometimes he did it just for amusement.
Jinhwa Hou was momentarily speechless. "It’s no wonder you two arel very close; you understand martial uncle way too well."
Yet the only person who knew the real truth, Renshu Chang, was not here.
"Let’s find Renshu Chang and the others first," Amalia changed the subject. "Then we’ll look for a place where you can refine your divine artifact."
"Alright."
The two of them soon found Renshu Chang and the other three—but they weren’t alone. The members of the Eternal One Sect were also present.
"Why are they everywhere?" Jinhwa Hou remarked with a half-smile, glancing at Jiheon Yang, who was seriously injured.
The disciples from the Eternal One Sect sensed Jinhwa Hou’s unmasked, powerful Deity Transformation aura, and their spirits plummeted. Some even felt a touch of despair.
Jinhwa Hou had really achieved a full breakthrough. So, it hadn’t been a false feeling earlier—the one who had broken through had indeed been him.
"Kill me or torture me—do whatever you want!" Jiheon Yang’s face was pale, but he kept his tone defiant, though fear gripped him inwardly.
"No rush," Jinhwa Hou sneered. "We’ll settle the score for you and Songji Yan teaming up against us, slowly and thoroughly. What about Ilmyeong Yi? Did you finally get him killed?" He smirked. "I always saw his death coming. Even if the wandering spirits didn’t take him out, he’d have died by someone’s hand eventually."
Jiheon Yang noticed the uneasy expressions of two of his fellow sect members. Furious, he snapped, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"You know very well if it’s nonsense," Jinhwa Hou replied, then turned to Amalia and the others. "No need to waste time on this trash. Killing them would just dirty our hands. Let’s go."
Renshu Chang and the others looked as if they wanted to say something, but Amalia’s slight frown silenced them. "Jinhwa Hou is right. Let’s go."
With both of them saying so, Renshu Chang and the other three had no more to add.
As Jiheon Yang watched them leave, he immediately ordered his companions, "We’re leaving, too!"
But the two remained motionless. "Senior Brother, is what he said true?"
Jiheon Yang, enraged, shouted back, "How dare you doubt me! Can’t you see Jinhwa Hou is obviously trying to sow discord?"
"But..." one of them hesitated, recalling that Senior Brother Ilmyeong Yi really hadn’t needed to die.
"There’s no ’but.’ The Path of All Immortals is full of both opportunity and danger. If you chose to enter, you should’ve been prepared. I’ll say this one last time—if you stay here any longer, the wandering spirits will catch up." With that, Jiheon Yang stormed off.
After a moment of hesitation, his two companions followed him. They had no other options left.
Moments after they departed, a Deity Transformation stage spirit appeared at the spot they’d just vacated and then quickly pursued them in the direction they had gone.
Meanwhile, Amalia and her group had moved on to find a relatively safe spot.
"Take out your divine artifact," Amalia instructed. "I’ll help you refine it."
Without a word, Jinhwa Hou tossed her the artifact but couldn’t resist asking, "Refining a divine artifact can’t be easy, right? It could take a lot of time. Should we wait until we’re out?"
"No need—it shouldn’t take too long." Amalia examined the artifact thoroughly, then summoned a wisp of refining fire. The Flames leapt forth instantly.
