Chapter 938: Unleashing the Eight God Blade
"Jiheon Yang has lost his composure—he’s afraid of Amalia now," Taeseon Lei observed calmly.
"In battle, fear spells certain defeat," Jirandai Tang commented, feeling a new respect for Amalia. That she’d anticipated this moment spoke to her skill—she had every reason to win now.
"But how will she win?" Eunbyeol Ling wondered aloud. "Without a finishing move, like Jiheon Yang said, victory will be tough."
Amalia already knew exactly what to do.
Just when everyone thought she’d continue to restrict Jiheon Yang, she stepped back, widening the distance between them.
The rain of blade shadows suddenly stopped. Jiheon Yang froze for a moment before breaking into a grin. He had waited for this exact moment! Now, instead of pressing her advantage, she’d given him room to move, inviting her own doom. This time, he wouldn’t hold back at all!
"Huh?" Tan Kai suddenly made a small sound of surprise. The thunderclouds that had begun to dissipate after Amalia’s breakthrough gathered again.
The clouds grew darker, lightning brewing within them, rumbling louder.
Tan Kai turned his gaze back to the barrier, where Amalia, with her blade shining sharper than ever, stood ready. He smiled slightly and flicked a beam of light toward the barrier.
The already fragile barrier finally collapsed completely.
"Tan Kai, you’ve broken the rules," Elder Wong quickly noticed his intentions, his face darkening.
"The barrier was only meant to keep the tokens from flying out of Ten Thousand Floating Island and falling into the Sanguine Sea. Since the Path of All Immortals has closed, it should have been removed anyway. How could I be breaking the rules?"
Tan Kai replied with an indifferent smile. "It’s you who kept the barrier up even though the challenge had started—were you trying to prevent others from stepping in to help?"
Those who initially thought Tan Kai’s actions were intentional now began to understand.
Although the challenge was life-and-death, the sects vaYaoed their talented disciples and would naturally not want them to die outside the Path of All Immortals. If something went wrong in the challenge, sect leaders could step in to surrender on their disciples’ behalf.
But if the barrier blocked them, even a one-second delay could lead to an unfortunate outcome. Better safe than sorry, after all.
With this realization, some who had doubts now had none.
"Elder Tan is right; the barrier should indeed be removed," Hayeon Ren from the Divine Maiden Sect was the first to agree.
The Divine Maiden Sect was a major sect, so when they spoke up, others followed suit.
The only sect still reluctant to remove the barrier was the Demonic Night Palace.
The disciples of the Demonic Night Palace were known for their bloodthirsty nature. Although they usually concealed their intentions well, their desire to break the rules was clear.
With the barrier gone, the thunderclouds in the sky quickly grew larger and heavier, the lightning within churning and creating a palpable pressure.
"Jiheon Yang, be careful—she’s about to use the Eight God Blade," Temujin Lei warned, immediately recognizing Amalia’s ultimate move.
The Eight God Blade, a secret technique of the Eternal One Sect, had somehow ended up with a disciple from the Green Lotus Sect.
This was an embarrassing situation for the Eternal One Sect.
The more they tried to suppress the truth, the harder it was to hide it. Now, with the Green Lotus Sect disciple using the Eight God Blade against the Eternal One Sect disciple, even if Jiheon Yang won, the Eternal One Sect would still lose face.
"Temujin Lei, I have a thought—do you think Jiheon Yang can force her to unleash the eighth strike?" Seonho Ming asked, turning to him.
"I’ve considered it too, but the real question is whether Jiheon Yang can make it happen."
Although the Eternal One Sect suspected Amalia had mastered the full Eight God Blade, they had no clear proof.
As disciples trained in the Eight God Blade themselves, they all hoped she had the complete version. But how could they be certain?
If Temujin Lei were the one fighting, he was confident he could force her to use the eighth strike, but she would never choose him as her opponent.
"Jiheon Yang, this is the seventh strike—do everything you can to force the eighth strike!" Temujin Lei transmitted to him. Whether it was possible or not, he wanted him to try.
Jiheon Yang suddenly felt a surge of hope. Yes, if he could force her to use the eighth strike, he could redeem himself. If he could confirm she had the complete Eight God Blade, the Sect Leader and Elder Wong would surely forgive him, and he would still be a hero of the Eternal One Sect.
You’re lucky, he thought, his eyes narrowing as he glared at Amalia. If it weren’t for the Eight God Blade, he wouldn’t spare her.
Across from him, Amalia, fully prepared, noticed the slight restraint in Jiheon Yang’s stance and quickly guessed his intentions. She smirked slightly.
Did he really think everything she had done until now was just for show?
Amalia’s seventh blade strike, infused with lightning, held a grandeur that surpassed even Seonho Ming’s display of the same technique. Lightning bolts continued to descend from above, absorbed by her blade, enhancing its destructive force.
This particular strike harnessed the power of thunder, borrowing the fierce energy of the storm. The strength of the thunderclouds summoned depended on the wielder’s skill. Seonho Ming’s face turned an ashen green as he watched, feeling as if a slap had landed on him in front of everyone. Not only had he been bested by a middle of the Soul Formation stage cultivator, but now, even this newly advanced disciple had shown him up publicly that her Eight God’s Blade technique was better than him.
"It’s not that impressive," Temujin Lei remarked, noticing Seonho Ming’s fluctuating emotions with a frown. "Her strength only seems overwhelming because she just broke through, and the storm clouds haven’t dispersed yet. She’s benefiting from sheer timing."
Seonho Ming took a deep breath, forcing down his resentment. "I know—I’m not overthinking it."
