Chapter 920: Rising Tensions
Chapter 920: Rising Tensions
Due to her preferences, Jiae Yao loved to tease the female disciples in her sect, and as the youngest junior, Kailash Ren was often her favorite target.
"Nonsense! Chanchala Jin said you like that girl named Amalia," Jiae Yao teased, easily outing Chanchala Jin.
"I knew it was Senior Sister Jin! I told her not to say anything," Kailash Ren muttered, blushing with embarrassment.
Chanchala Jin wasn’t strong enough to come this time and had been ordered by her master to stay and train. By the time they returned from the Path of All Immortals, she’d likely have reached a breakthrough.
Jiae Yao gave her a knowing smile. "If you didn’t feel something, you wouldn’t have warned Chanchala Jin to keep quiet. So it’s true, huh?"
"Her cultivation level is too low," Dayeon Xinyue said softly, her eyes as sharp as a crescent moon. "With so many powerful people here, even if she enters, she’ll be eliminated quickly."
"Senior Sister Xinyue, she’s not weak. She defeated a Nascent Soul stage cultivator in the Double Cavern Secret Realm while still at the Golden Core stage," Kailash Ren explained hesitantly.
"You say you don’t like her, but as soon as Sister Xinyue mentioned her, you couldn’t wait to defend her," Jiae Yao teased.
Kailash Ren’s face turned red again. She tried to explain but struggled to find the words, finally stamping her foot. "Senior Sister Yao, if you keep talking like that, I won’t speak to you anymore!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop," Jiae Yao said, raising her hands in surrender. "But your Sister Xinyue has a point—at her current level, she’s not exactly impressive."
Kailash Ren wanted to say she believed in Amalia’s strength but feared Senior Sister Yao would only tease her more. Her face was already flushed, and she didn’t dare to say it out loud.
"Our little junior finally has a crush," Jiae Yao commented in an amused tone, sharing her thoughts with the others.
"But, If she wants to marry our little sister, she’ll have to get past us first!" the other senior sisters laughed.
"You’re all reading too much into this," Dayeon Xinyue said suddenly.
"What do you mean, ’too much’?" one of the sisters asked.
Jiae Yao’s smile faded a little. "It’s probably a one-sided crush. Senior Sister Xinyue means that since Amalia showed up, she hasn’t even looked in our little sister’s direction. Clearly, it’s like a flower falling for a stream that won’t flow her way."
"That can’t be! Our little sister isn’t only beautiful, but she’s also a prodigy, highly valued by Elder Qiuhui. She’ll become a big figure one day, so what’s there not to like?" the senior sisters replied in disbelief.
"Probably not. Her gaze is clear; she’s logical, knows exactly what she wants. If she liked our little sister, she’d show it through her actions, not words," Jiae Yao said, shaking her head. "What a pity."
"You can tell all that from this distance?" The others were skeptical.
"Eyes are the windows to the soul. If you pay close attention, you can see a lot," Jiae Yao replied, smiling again. "But this does show that our little sister has good taste, right?"
"It’s a shame."
"She’s the one missing out. Our little sister isn’t lacking; if she doesn’t see her value, that’s her loss."
"When does the battle for the entrance plaques begin?" Kenny Lin suddenly asked with a smile.
Amalia glanced at him with a fake smile. "What’s the rush?"
Kenny Lin’s smile dropped immediately. "Don’t you feel it?"
"Feel what?" Amalia asked, confused.
"Those glances they keep sneaking at you—they’re watching you," Kenny Lin replied with a serious expression.
"Isn’t this normal?" Amalia replied calmly. "We already clashed with the Eternal One Sect in the Double Cavern Secret Realm, plus there’s the matter of the Eighth God’s Blade. It makes sense they’d keep looking over."
"No, it’s not just them. There’s also that group of women from the Divine Maiden Sect. I’ve counted—those women have looked at you over fifty times." This was what irked Kenny Lin the most. What were they up to, staring at her like that?
They should looked at those men, why they should looked at his wife.
Amalia couldn’t help but laugh. "You counted precisely? Fifty times?"
"Now it’s fifty-two, including the most recent glances," Kenny Lin replied, his whole demeanor radiating irritation. The disciples nearby quickly gave him space, sensing his intense mood.
If it had been a few times or even a dozen, that would be understandable. But fifty-two times? That was definitely a bit much.
"Just ignore it. Kailash Ren might have mentioned our adventure in the Double Cavern Secret Realm, so they’re curious, that’s all." Amalia looked unfazed. Being stared at was something they couldn’t control; they might as well pretend it wasn’t happening.
"Kailash Ren likes you," Kenny Lin said suddenly.
Amalia looked at him, surprised. "What makes you think that?"
"Everything about her. If she didn’t, would those Divine Maiden Sect women be watching you because of a few words from her?"
Amalia paused. He had a point. Kenny Lin had suddenly become a detective where feelings were concerned.
"You’ve really thought this through! I don’t usually see you this sharp," Amalia teased. "But as I said, don’t let it bother you. If people are paying attention, it just shows I’m doing well. Isn’t it good to have a successful partner, even women like me?"
Kenny Lin’s expression softened. "Of course, it is."
"Good. Now, focus. I think the Path of All Immortals is about to open."
As they spoke, a misty spiritual aura filled the sky. A massive vortex appeared in the void, swirling larger and larger until it seemed it would swallow the whole island.
Within moments, the edges of the vortex were no longer visible, and a mirage-like image appeared at its center. Faint pathways stretching up into the heavens revealed themselves, disappearing into clouds, shrouding whatever lay beyond in mystery.
With each passing moment, the misty spiritual aura surged faster, signaling that the Path of All Immortals was opening soon.
