Chapter 898: Reunion and Rivalry
The senior brother wasn’t happy. "I didn’t say I knew everything, I just told you what I’ve heard. Even though I haven’t seen it with my own eyes, I know people who have. They told me this, so at least I know a little."
"Alright, alright. Senior Brother Zhao meant well. It’s already nice that we know this much, so let’s not grumble about it," another senior brother said quickly, trying to smooth things over before tensions rose.
High up in the sky, hidden behind the clouds...
"The strongest person in the Green Lotus Sect is that boy Lian Qinglan?" Tian Wuya asked casually.
Standing beside him, Amalia didn’t even blink. "Of course not. The strongest person in the Green Lotus Sect is you, Master."
Tian Wuya nodded her head in satisfaction. "Let’s go."
It had been four months since they left, and now they were finally back.
Originally, Tian Wuya had planned to stay in the Nether Ghost Abyss Realm for five months before bringing Amalia back, but she had exceeded all expectations.
Stronger demons had appeared, but with Amalia’s current strength, they were no match for her. There was no need to continue the training, so they returned just in time to hear the disciples’ conversation.
The more Amalia interacted with her master, the more she realized that beneath her cold mask, she was far from the aloof master she seemed to be. She was actually quite amusing in her own way.
"Master, will Kenny Lin and Master Lian be coming back soon too?" Amalia asked as Tian Wuya led her straight to Nameless Peak, barely drawing any attention. Only the Great Elder noticed them, his spiritual sense brushing over them briefly.
Tian Wuya didn’t answer Amalia’s question immediately. Instead, she raised an eyebrow in the direction of the main peak. "What is it?"
The Great Elder’s voice came through with a hint of amusement. "You’re back so soon. While you were gone, the Fifth Elder finished making the Life Restoration Heavenly Pill."
Tian Wuya was silent for a moment. "So what? It’s too late."
The Great Elder sighed. "You still can’t let it go, can you?"
"If your family is dead. Can you forget about them?" Tian Wuya shot back coolly, though there was a trace of impatience on her face.
"I can. I’m all alone now, aren’t I?" The Great Elder’s voice was calm.
"Well, but I can’t," Tian Wuya replied stubbornly.
Amalia paused in surprise. This was the first time she had seen her master act so unreasonable.
"Alright, stop letting the disciples see you like this. Master Lian and his student should be back soon too. The Path of All Immortals is about to open, so as their master, you should step up and show what you’ve got."
With that, the Great Elder’s spiritual sense retreated, and Amalia no longer felt like they were being watched.
Still, she knew that if the Great Elder hadn’t allowed her to notice, she wouldn’t have sensed it at all.
"Master, are Kenny Lin and the others really coming back? Can we..."
"You can’t. Don’t even think about it. That kind of thing comes with a heavy price each time it’s used. Your strength is improving, so the best you can do is train harder and figure it out yourself." Tian Wuya finished speaking and walked away, not giving her a chance to respond. Amalia felt helpless; her master was acting unreasonable and wasn’t even trying to hide it.
Luckily, Kenny Lin didn’t make her wait too long. That same night, he came back.
The first thing Kenny Lin did when he returned was ditch his master and come straight to Nameless Peak to find Amalia.
"Late Nascent Soul Stage? Not bad, you’re almost catching up to me," Kenny Lin said.
He looked clean and neat, with no trace of the scars that had once marked his face. The injuries were nothing serious, and with some healing pills, they had completely vanished. Dressed in black robes, he looked just like Kenny Lin from before.
"You’ve already reached the Soul Formation Stage. How could I possibly catch up?" Amalia said with a straight face. Kenny Lin’s talent wasn’t any less than hers. The only way she could ever catch up to him would be if she found some incredible opportunity and jumped an entire level.
"I’m just at the early Soul Formation Stage. That’s not so impressive. You, on the other hand, just advanced an entire stage," Kenny Lin replied.
"I wish I could say ’just’ like that," came a sad voice from nearby.
Both of them turned their heads to see Renshu Chang standing halfway up the mountainside, watching the two of them talking at the entrance. He couldn’t help but wonder why he had chosen to come here at this moment.
Even though his master supported him, Renshu Chang was still only in the late Nascent Soul Stage. He was one small level ahead of Amalia, but back then, he had been much stronger than her. Now, she was catching up, and he feared it would only take a few days for her to surpass him.
Thinking about this, Renshu Chang felt a wave of despair. He had made his choice and promised his master he would follow this path without regret, but every time he saw these two people, his once-firm heart filled with doubt.
"Why is Senior Brother Chang here?" Amalia asked with a smile.
"Don’t call me that. Just call me Little Uncle Chang,’" Renshu Chang said. Being called ’Senior Brother’ was more painful than being called ’Little Uncle.’ It was humiliating to be surpassed by a younger disciple, so ’Little Uncle’ felt like a bit of a relief.
Amalia chuckled, thinking he was joking. "What brings you here?"
"I came for something, but now I don’t feel like talking about it," Renshu Chang replied gloomily.
"You’d better think it over. If you don’t say anything, we’re leaving," Kenny Lin said lazily, his whole demeanor relaxed.
Renshu Chang looked at him with frustration. He thought, Would it really hurt to be nice for once?
Amalia smiled and said, "Alright, don’t bully Senior Brother Chang."
Renshu Chang sighed. "You’re still the kind one."
