Chapter 862: Rivals and Allies

By the time the two met up again, they had already led the devils and demonic beasts straight into the trap and escaped swiftly.

Only the Lord-level devil saw their retreating figures. The approaching demonic beasts, however, were unaware, their eyes slowly turning red as they caught the scent of the special musk on the devils.

"Roar!"

Without hesitation, the enraged demonic beasts charged at the devils, tearing them apart with their massive jaws.

The Lord-level devil tried to explain to the leader of the demonic beasts that they were merely passing through, but in the blink of an eye, his most trusted subordinate was torn to pieces by the enraged demonic beast leader.

"Damn it!" The Lord-level devil cursed in fury, abandoning any further attempts to reason.

The devils ceased their pursuit, and Amalia and Kenny Lin knew their plan had succeeded. Without lingering, they continued on their way to meet Zhar’khaen without stopping.

After a chaotic battle, both sides suffered heavy casualties. The Lord-level devil, alongside Rehimes, who arrived later after hearing the commotion, finally managed to kill the nearly maddened demonic beast leader.

"Osmos, what’s going on? Weren’t we supposed to be discreet, so as not to alert the humans?" Rehimes immediately questioned Osmos once the battle ended.

Osmos’s face was grim as he responded, "I was outwitted by two humans. They are disciples of the Gren Lotus Sect, and they may have already uncovered our plan."

Rehimes’s expression darkened instantly. "How could they have discovered our plan?"

"We were spotted while hunting humans from other factions. Now, we must eliminate them. One of the Gren Lotus Sect disciples is at the late Nascent Soul stage, and he could be of great use to us." Osmos knew this was his mistake and was eager to make amends.

Rehimes, who had been irritated moments earlier, immediately let go of his anger. "Is that true? Which direction did they flee?"

"Of course it’s true. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have fallen into their trap." Osmos breathed a sigh of relief as he pointed out the direction in which the two had escaped.

"Chase them! We can’t let them meet with other humans," Rehimes ordered, wasting no time as he led his men in pursuit.

"Sir, what should we do?" one of Osmos’s subordinates approached, whispering cautiously.

They all knew why Lord Rehimes was so eager.

Osmos’s eyes flashed with malice. If not for the need to redeem himself, he wouldn’t have told Rehimes about this at all.

"Don’t worry. Those two Gren Lotus Sect disciples are cunning. Even though we don’t know how they managed to make the demonic beasts attack us, capturing them won’t be easy for Rehimes."

"Master, you’re wise. Should we chase them too?" the subordinate asked again.

"Of course, we’ll pursue them. If we can take advantage of the situation, all the better." Osmos had already decided. He planned to wait until they had exhausted themselves fighting each other, then swoop in and claim the victory for himself.

On the other side, Rehimes’s subordinates were also questioning their master’s motives. "Sir, Osmos told us this valuable information so readily. Could there be something suspicious?"

"We’ll know soon enough," Rehimes replied, unconcerned that Osmos would dare deceive him.

The fact was, that Osmos had allowed a serious breach in the plan. If he couldn’t redeem himself immediately, the consequences would be more than he could bear.

Those two Gren Lotus Sect disciples had to die. It didn’t matter who killed them in the end; as long as they were dead,

Osmos’s mistake would be minimized.

"Master, you’re brilliant," his subordinate flattered him.

Rehimes remained impassive. "Take a team and head in another direction. Don’t let them escape."

"Yes, sir!"

...

"Jiho Wang, I didn’t come looking for you, yet here you are, delivering yourself to my doorstep." Taejin Yun stared coldly at the suddenly-appearing City Lord Wang.

"If you don’t kill me today, once I leave, my Skyward City will wage war against you with no quarter," City Lord Wang snorted. Did they really think he was so easy to deal with?

The grudge between the two sides was no secret, though it hadn’t been openly discussed until now.

This time, the incident with Pixiu had finally torn the veil away completely.

Facing City Lord Wang’s provocation, Taejin Yun sneered but said no more. At the moment, he really couldn’t kill Jiho Wang. He glanced back at Huoyan Huasheng of the Green Lotus Sect, Hayeon Ren of the Divine Maiden Sect, and Hyunwoo Chen from the Artifact Refining Valley. Almost every major faction had gathered here.

Everyone who was supposed to come had come, but so had those who weren’t.

"Since we’re all here, how about we get an explanation?" Hyunwoo Chen broke the silence, seeing that no one else was speaking.

Taejin Yun looked around at the others, realizing that this matter wouldn’t end peacefully. If he didn’t share some information, these people would never have left easily.

"Pixiu has run into Ten Thousand Beast Mountain."

Silent Echo Valley was home to Ten Thousand Beast Mountain, a place inhabited by countless powerful demonic beasts. The strongest among them were at the Mahayana stage, and even the weakest were formidable. It was a dangerous place where few humans or devils dared to venture.

Initially, they weren’t too worried about Pixiu entering Ten Thousand Beast Mountain, because its ancestor, Nine Heaven Pixiu, had once been a Beast God. However, it had been betrayed by the very demonic beasts under its command. Some of the demonic beasts in Ten Thousand Beast Mountain were said to be descendants of those traitors.

If Pixiu dared to enter, those demonic beasts likely wouldn’t let it off. This was one of their hopes, yet the demonic beast had gone in anyway.

Taejin Yun, however, kept one crucial detail to himself: there were actually two Pixiu.

"Who wants to enter Ten Thousand Beast Mountain?" Hyunwoo Chen asked.

"With so many powerful demonic beasts there, aren’t you afraid of dying?" Hayeon Ren, the sole female cultivator present, spoke coldly. She was from the Divine Maiden Sect, and though she was the only woman, no one dared underestimate her.
