Chapter 854: Clash of Pride And Unyielding Hearts

Amalia and Kenny Lin exchanged a glance before stealthily moving closer. As the sounds grew louder, they finally saw what was happening.

A man was surrounded by a group of devils. Several devils attempted to launch a sneak attack from behind, but the man quickly dispatched them. They didn’t last more than a few moves in his hands. The devil leader watched with an increasingly grave expression.

"Lord Forvach, this human’s strength is formidable. We’ve already lost several of our own. If we keep fighting, even if we manage to kill him, our losses will be devastating," a devil reported to the leader.

"I know. But if we retreat now, I suspect he already knows our objective. If we let him leave, he could expose our secret," Forvach replied.

Forvach hadn’t expected the first human cultivator they encountered to be such a tough opponent. But now, there was no choice but to press on.

"A human?" Zhar’khaen, who had been listening to their conversation, suddenly sneered. "Who told you I was human?"

Forvach’s face changed. "You’re not human?"

"How could I possibly be one of those filthy humans? Humans aren’t worthy to be compared with me!" Zhar’khaen spat with disdain. What he hated most was humans, as they were one of the main reasons the Pixiu race had been nearly wiped out.

With that, Zhar’khaen unleashed the aura of a demonic beast, a clear distinction from the energy of a human.

Only then did Forvach realize they had been mistaken. "You’re a demonic beast, and a shape-shifting one at that."

The fact that this demonic beast could take human form indicated it had a high-level bloodline.

It was a difficult decision: to spend more effort to capture this demonic beast or to leave now. He didn’t doubt the demonic beast’s hatred for humans, just as humans despised devils.

Forvach’s expression flickered for a moment, and he ultimately decided to retreat.

They couldn’t ruin their entire plan for an unknown demonic beast. Silent Echo Valley was close by, and they could always return later.

"So, you’re thinking of taking me on? Feel free to try. Let’s see if you die first, or if I kill you first," Zhar’khaen said arrogantly.

Forvach didn’t engage in a war of words and decisively gave the order: "If it weren’t for the grand plan, I would have subdued you. We retreat."

The devils obeyed instantly, withdrawing completely under Forvach’s command.

Once Zhar’khaen was sure they had gone far enough not to return, his face suddenly darkened. His cold gaze became tangible as it shot toward where Amalia and Kenny Lin were hiding.

"Come out. Don’t make me act. If I do, it won’t matter what relationship you have with my kin; I will show no mercy."

Had it not been for suddenly sensing the bloodline power of a Pixiu nearby, he wouldn’t have revealed his identity as a demonic beast. He would have started the slaughter much earlier.

Seeing that they couldn’t remain hidden, Amalia and Kenny Lin stepped out from their cover.

"Humans?" Zhar’khaen’s face instantly turned grim upon seeing them. Could Gor’kan have been right, that their kin had truly submitted to humans?

"Are you a Pixiu?" Amalia asked cautiously, not missing the disdain in Zhar’khaen’s eyes.

Since Wealth could sense the bloodline of a Pixiu, it stood to reason that the Pixiu here could also sense Wealth’s bloodline power. Therefore, she surmised that this shape-shifting demonic beast in front of her was most likely a Pixiu.

Had those devils known this demonic beast’s true identity, they likely wouldn’t have let him off so easily.

"You carry the bloodline of my kin. Are you a hybrid of humans and Pixiu?" Zhar’khaen was startled by his own guess.

That would explain why the bloodline power he sensed was so weak, and why it only emanated from this person.

"No..." Amalia hadn’t expected Zhar’khaen’s imagination to run so wild. "I’m fully human."

As soon as she said this, Zhar’khaen’s expression darkened further, his eyes gleaming with a savage light. He growled, "If you’re not a hybrid of humans and Pixiu, that means my kin have bonded with you, submitting to humans, and worse, to a weakling! Unforgivable!"

The thought of the proud and noble Pixiu becoming this weakling’s mount enraged Zhar’khaen. The violent energy within him began to stir uncontrollably, and his aura spread out wildly.

Nearby, birds and demonic beasts were startled by the overwhelming power, fleeing in all directions. The sky became dark with countless birds taking flight, forming what looked like a massive, black cloud.

Forvach, who had seen this from afar, initially felt a tinge of regret but was suddenly relieved. The aura of this demonic beast was far stronger than he had imagined. It was fortunate they hadn’t engaged in a real battle; if they had, he wasn’t sure they could’ve won.

"Let’s go. We’ll hunt for other small group humans," Forvach ordered decisively, turning and running in the opposite direction. His subordinates followed without hesitation.

Amalia, who had been insulted as a "weakling," was momentarily stunned, but Kenny Lin reacted instantly, in just 0.1 seconds, and immediately got angry.

"What did you say? You dare call my wife a weakling?"

"You’re insane," Amalia quickly sent a telepathic message. "Do you even know what level of cultivation he’s at compared to you? If you provoke him and he kills us in a fit of rage, no one will be able to save us in time."

Zhar’khaen was momentarily bewildered. "A Nascent Soul cultivator dares to insult me?"

He had encountered many challenges in his time, but never one like this—an insect that he could easily crush was actually daring to provoke him, a cultivator at the Deity Transformation stage.

"And what if I insult you?" Kenny Lin retorted, "I’ll even insult your ancestors! Just wait until I reach the Deity Transformation stage. It won’t take long—a year, maybe a year and a half, and I’ll crush you with one hand!"
