Chapter 813: Dual Cultivation Technique (Part 2)
Kenny Lin threw his identity token at Elder Pan.
"I’ll leave this with you. If I return even one book short, I’ll pay for it," he said and continued walking.
"Wait!" Elder Pan, now mentally prepared, quickly stopped him again.
"What now?" Kenny Lin, eager to share these dual cultivation techniques with Amalia, was clearly annoyed.
Elder Pan was almost in tears, "Junior Master Uncle, the Hidden Arts Pavilion has rules. If you do this, I’ll be in trouble."
"Rules are dead, but people are alive. Sticking to the rules for no reason—do you plan to spend your whole life guarding the pavilion?" Kenny Lin said righteously.
Elder Pan was speechless for a moment.
How was that related?
He paused for a second before muttering, "...I really don’t want to spend my whole life guarding the Hidden Arts Pavilion."
The pavilion was nice, but it hindered cultivation.
Cultivation required more than just staying behind closed doors.
Although Elder Pan had accepted the task of guarding the Hidden Arts Pavilion, knowing it was a sign of the sect’s trust, it limited his ability to go on missions or train outside.
"Very well, I’ll speak with Nephew Qing and have someone replace you," Kenny Lin said before swaggering off, not sparing another glance at the stunned Elder Pan.
By the time Elder Pan snapped out of his shock, Kenny Lin was already gone, having taken dozens of techniques without following the rules.
Elder Pan was left feeling both amused and helpless.
It wasn’t a huge issue, but it wasn’t small either.
If word got out, it might hurt his reputation.
After some hesitation, he arranged for someone to guard the pavilion in his place and decided to report the matter to the Sect Leader.
Sect Leader Qing, who had once been extremely busy, had since delegated much of his work to Renshu Chang and now had more free time.
When he heard Elder Pan wanted to see him, he assumed it was about the Hidden Arts Pavilion and, being free, allowed him to come in.
"Why has Elder Pan come today? Everything at the Hidden Arts Pavilion is fine, I hope?" Sect Leader Qing asked with a smile.
Elder Pan sighed and replied, "Everything is fine, but there’s something I think I should report."
"What is it? Go ahead." Sect Leader Qing’s good mood soon faded as he quickly regretted feeling so cheerful that day.
Elder Pan pulled out the identity token Kenny Lin had left behind, "Today, Junior Master Uncle came to the Hidden Arts Pavilion and left this as collateral."
Sect Leader Qing’s smile froze, "Collateral for what?"
"He took dozens of techniques from the Hidden Arts Pavilion. I told him there’s a rule against taking high-level techniques out of the pavilion, but he didn’t listen. He left this token as collateral," Elder Pan explained.
Sect Leader Qing rubbed his temples.
He had expected this.
Every time something involved Junior Master Uncle, it never ended well.
"Did you really just let him take away dozens of techniques?"
Sect Leader Qing ground his teeth as he emphasized "dozens."
Elder Pan replied defensively, "Of course not, but he insisted. He even said..."
"Said what?" Sect Leader Qing was getting a headache.
"He said that the rules are dead, but people are alive. He told me to let him take the techniques out and that he’d have you find someone else to replace me as the guardian of the Hidden Arts Pavilion," Elder Pan explained, looking helpless, "I was so shocked that he just left."
Sect Leader Qing’s eye twitched.
Now he understood—there wasn’t a single straightforward person in the Green Lotus Sect.
Everyone had their own hidden agendas.
He thought: He says something like that, and you really come to me to report it? Now I can’t even pretend I didn’t hear about it. If Junior Master Uncle really comes to me about this, should I agree or not?
If I refuse, I’ll offend him—and he already has a long list of grudges against me.
If I agree, who knows what even worse trouble might come next?
"Elder Pan, Elder Pan... I think it’s you who wants to be replaced," Sect Leader Qing said with a sarcastic smile.
"You’re joking, Sect Leader. If I wanted to be replaced, I wouldn’t have come to you about this," Elder Pan said innocently, his expression as earnest as ever.
Yeah, right.
Who would believe that!
Sect Leader Qing kept a blank face.
This guy must have been a sly fox in a past life.
"The techniques have already been taken. Talking about it now is pointless. What kind of techniques did Junior Master Uncle take?"
"Well... I didn’t get a clear look at what he took, but most of them were high-level techniques," Elder Pan said, remembering how stunned he had been at the time.
He hadn’t even had the presence of mind to check what techniques Kenny Lin was taking, "Sect Leader, do you think Martial Uncle will spread them around?"
"He probably won’t. Junior Master Uncle may seem careless, but he’s not the type to be reckless with such things. Still, someone needs to remind him," Sect Leader Qing said thoughtfully, wondering who would be the best person to do that.
Just then, a disciple reported that Renshu Chang had returned.
Sect Leader Qing’s mood brightened.
His second disciple was always so considerate, showing up right when he was needed.
He immediately called him in.
"Master, is there something you need me for?" Renshu Chang asked as he entered, bowing slightly to Elder Pan in surprise, "Elder Pan, what are you doing here?"
He had just seen Elder Pan at the Hidden Arts Pavilion earlier.
Elder Pan smiled, "Just reporting something to the Sect Leader. I’ll take my leave now."
Sect Leader Qing responded with a stiff "Hmm," watching as Elder Pan slipped out quickly like a wily fox.
"Your Junior Master Uncle took dozens of high-level techniques from the Hidden Arts Pavilion. Go to Upper Nine Peak and remind him that while it’s fine for him to read them, he mustn’t share them with anyone. Also, they need to be returned to the pavilion in their original condition," Sect Leader Qing instructed.
