Chapter 603: Devil Battlefield (Part 5)
However, human cultivators and devils were not eager for large-scale conflicts either.
Not only were the devils building up their forces, but human cultivators were also training, and nurturing batches of elites through the battlefield.
That night, they settled in the city and later convened to discuss their plans for the next day.
The following day, Renshu Chang came looking for them, wanting to join their group.
Cai Jianjun had called Renshu Chang over the previous night, despite Kenny Lin’s refusal to have anyone accompany them.
He couldn’t simply do nothing.
These two groups of people were not in the minority.
Seeing that Renshu Chang and their relationship seemed fine, Cai Jianjun estimated he would let him join.
Unexpectedly, before Kenny Lin could speak, Amalia flatly refused Renshu Chang.
Renshu Chang had always thought it would be Kenny Lin who would refuse him, and for a moment, he was stunned.
"Why? Even if I can’t assist you directly, I can help keep an eye out," Renshu Chang said, hoping to persuade her.
"No need, Senior Chang."
Amalia firmly declined.
Seeing her resolute and unwavering expression, Renshu Chang suddenly realized that once Amalia made up her mind, she was unlikely to change it easily.
He sighed.
"Alright then. Just be careful yourselves. Avoid dangerous places and keep your distance from devil cities. It’s best to target solitary devils," Renshu Chang advised.
Perhaps it was his usual role as a "caretaker" for other junior disciples that slipped out, but Renshu Chang couldn’t help but show his concern.
Amalia didn’t stop him; after all, Renshu Chang was genuinely concerned about their safety.
As the two of them left the city, Renshu Chang stood on the city wall, anxiously watching their departing figures.
"Renshu Chang, you’re not here to babysit. Since it’s their decision, there’s no need to worry further. The devil battlefield isn’t a place to nurture delicate flowers. Everyone has their own fate," Cai Jianjun said with a sigh, seeing him on the wall.
"I understand. Thank you, Uncle Cai," Renshu Chang acknowledged, knowing his concerns here were futile.
He then redirected his thoughts.
Cai Jianjun nodded his head in understanding.
When Renshu Chang came down, the others immediately crowded around, bombarding him with questions.
"Renshu Chang, is that tall, handsome young man really Master Lian’s disciple?"
"I think his cultivation seems to be only at the Golden Core stage and his aura is not very stable, so he just breakthrough recently, right?"
"He should be around twenty-six or twenty-seven years old. I remember when you broke through Foundation Building, you were only twenty-four or twenty-five. Your talent isn’t inferior to his."
The inquirers were mostly disciples of the Green Lotus Sect, some were Renshu Chang’s senior brothers, and some were junior brothers.
These people had just arrived at the devil battlefield recently and missed the recent recruitment competition.
"To be honest, Renshu Chang, how did Master Lian take a liking to this senior?"
One of Renshu Chang’s senior brothers couldn’t help expressing doubt.
In his view, the Green Lotus Sect had plenty of people with higher talents than Kenny Lin.
"My fellow senior brothers and junior brothers, how would we know Master Lian’s thoughts? Similar discussions should not be brought up in front of Junior Master Uncle." Renshu Chang looked helpless.
"We know, we’re not stupid."
Just mentioning their seniority could make them breathless; even their own elders had to obediently call him senior, how could they dare say anything in front of him?
Without him lifting a finger, the elders could hit them first.
"Don’t feel unjust, perhaps junior master uncle has an extraordinary talent and Master Lian can see that."
Renshu Chang had always thought this way, especially after learning about his junior sister Amalia’s talent.
He dared not underestimate Master Lian’s.
He always felt that the disciples chosen by Master Lian couldn’t be based on such a simple judgment.
There must be something he didn’t know about.
Some of his fellow disciples and seniors, though, were not too sure about this.
All they knew was, that talent decides everything.
Even if he has heavenly spiritual veins or a mutated one, there were many people with these two in the Green Lotus Sect.
...
In order to put Renshu Chang’s mind at ease, Amalia and Kenny Lin headed directly to south when they left the Obsidian City.
Within a hundred-mile radius of the Obsidian City, there were almost no devils in sight.
The two of them flew forward, flying over fifty miles before they finally spotted a devil.
The devil’s appearance was vastly different from that of a human.
It had two horns on its head, its entire body had a greenish hue, and it stood over two meters tall, making it instantly recognizable as a devil.
Apart from these features, it was otherwise similar to a human.
This devil did not realize that two human cultivators were watching it from above.
By the time it sensed the sword energy coming its way, its head had already been severed.
It didn’t even know how it had died.
Amalia and Kenny Lin descended from the sky.
This devil was only a trainee-level devil, yet it dared to roam the battlefield alone.
A trainee-level devil’s crystal core that was nurtured in their brains was still immature and therefore they’re useless.
After a quick glance, they continued their search for new devils.
"Next time we see a devil, don’t attack them right away," Amalia said to Kenny Lin.
Kenny Lin glanced at her, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
Amalia explained, "Your cultivation method is different from mine. Even if you want to help me, you can’t hide your aura. If you kill all the devils, what will I have left to kill?"
Kenny Lin reluctantly replied, "Fine, but if you encounter any danger, I will not hesitate to step in."
"Don’t worry. If I do encounter danger, I won’t try to be brave. I’ll definitely ask for your help," Amalia said, feeling relieved.
After traveling seventy to eighty miles from the Obsidian City, they encountered more and more devils.
These were no longer trainee-level devils; occasionally, they came across groups of warrior-level devils.
However, there was a small accident happened.
