Chapter 599: Devil Battlefield (Part 1)
"Don’t pretend. Did you think I wouldn’t know it was you?" Amalia said calmly.
Kenny Lin remained motionless.
Amalia took a few steps towards him.
Kenny Lin blinked a few times, then opened his eyes, "Huh, what are you doing here?"
"Keep pretending," Amalia cracked her knuckles threateningly.
A faint twitch appeared at the corner of Kenny Lin’s mouth, "How did you know it was me? Aren’t you still not at the Golden Core stage?"
Amalia rolled her eyes, "Can we not compare? You’re just an ignorant fool on your own."
"That was days ago. Can’t you come up with something new?" Kenny Lin retorted.
"Nope, this is what your master told me to give you."
Amalia handed him the white jade bottle, "How are you feeling now?"
"I’m fine."
Kenny Lin shrugged indifferently, "I’ve already formed the Golden Core, and my spiritual consciousness has strengthened a lot."
Spiritual consciousness, or spiritual power.
Before it can be projected outside, spiritual power, no matter how strong it is, it has limited effectiveness.
After condensing the Golden Core, the spiritual power can be projected outside.
If used skillfully, it can even kill people without a trace.
"How’s your spiritual artifact refinement going?" Kenny Lin got off the bed and asked.
"The formation techniques are too complicated. I’m still not entirely confident." Amalia shook her head.
The formation techniques in Mystic Void Continent were much more complex and different from the ones she had used before with spiritual artifacts. She realized that achieving a breakthrough in this area required reaching the Golden Core stage, so she decided to temporarily give up.
"Then let’s buy a magic treasure first."
"That’s what I’m thinking too, but we’ve used up all our spiritual stones."
They had spent all five hundred mid-grade spiritual stones, which was a considerable amount.
"Don’t you know that guy Baolin Jia? Just borrow from him again." Kenny Lin suggested casually.
Amalia shook her head. "He still thinks I’m from the Artifact Peak. If I borrow more, he’ll get suspicious."
Kenny Lin’s gaze immediately fell on the bottle in his hand.
Amalia noticed his glance and chuckled, "What’s the matter, still thinking of selling what your master gave you? The pills inside are all tailored for the Golden Core stage, both in quality and potency."
Kenny Lin glanced in the direction of Upper Ninth Peak. "I didn’t say that."
Amalia found it amusing that this guy finally recognized the importance of spiritual consciousness after his breakthrough. Teasingly, she said, "You just joined the sect and haven’t been expelled yet, must’ve been some good luck charms burned by your ancestors."
"I don’t think so," Kenny Lin chuckled, his eyes narrowing.
Having spent enough time with him, Amalia knew his tricks well and didn’t engage further.
"Why don’t you ask me why I’m not?" Kenny Lin prodded.
"I think what you might say isn’t what I want to hear," Amalia replied frankly.
Kenny Lin grinned knowingly. "That might not be the case. I’m sure you’d love to hear..."
Amalia cut him off with a pointed look, "Enough with your drama. I’m not interested."
Seeing her unresponsive, Kenny Lin persisted, "I may not know if my ancestors burned good luck charms, but I do know there’s someone around me who’s exceptionally lucky."
Amalia almost threw the white jade bottle at him, but luckily remembered its preciousness and refrained from using it to shut him up.
She knew well enough not to indulge his antics.
"Let’s talk business. I plan to leave for the devil battlefield tomorrow. There’s no more time to waste," Amalia said impatiently.
"I’ll accompany you," Kenny Lin’s expression turned serious.
"You can accompany me, but you can’t help me," Amalia retorted.
"The devil battlefield is far enough that he won’t know," Kenny Lin argued.
Amalia glanced at him, "Integrity is important. Taking a master seriously is a matter of honor."
"Let’s discuss this later," Kenny Lin refused to compromise.
If he kept pushing, Amalia decided, she’d just kill a few more devils to make up for his absence.
In the end, before Amalia could decide whether to ask Baolin Jia for a loan of spirit stones, someone came to deliver them.
"Are you looking to borrow spirit stones?" Renshu Chang seemed a bit confused. He had only come to find his junior sister to ask her about her plans for heading to the devil battlefield
Amalia and his Junior martial uncle had never been to the devil battlefield. He felt responsible as the guide and didn’t expect his junior martial uncle to ask him for a loan of spirit stones.
Amalia cleared her throat, "If Senior Brother Chang doesn’t have any, we’ll figure out another way."
"I do have some," Renshu Chang, having been in the sect for many years, still had some wealth. However, he discreetly glanced at Kenny Lin and continued, "Didn’t you just receive sect benefits a few days ago?"
Amalia understood he was referring to Kenny Lin who is receiving benefits from the sect master, "We’ve spent it all."
"So soon..." Renshu Chang blurted out.
"We bought a lot of refining materials and pills," Amalia explained.
"Oh, I see. You’re preparing for the devil battlefield. How much do you need to borrow?" Renshu Chang asked without hesitation.
Amalia inquired, "Senior Brother Chang, do you know how much a spiritual artifact costs?"
Renshu Chang nodded. "Low-grade artifacts are cheaper, but they still cost a few thousand mid-grade spirit stones. High-grade artifacts are even more expensive, starting at tens of thousands."
"Then lend us twenty thousand mid-grade spirit stones," Kenny Lin said bluntly.
Renshu Chang suddenly became embarrassed and chuckled, "Junior Martial Uncle, I don’t have that many mid-grade spirit stones."
Kenny Lin asked, "Then how many do you have?"
"Only a bit over ten thousand..." This was after saving for a long time.
"So poor," Kenny Lin underestimated.
Renshu Chang sighed with a mix of amusement and exasperation. Among the inner disciples of the Green Lotus Sect, he was considered relatively wealthy, yet in his junior martial uncle’s eyes, he was now labeled as poor.
Amalia gave him a sharp look, "Senior Brother Chang is indeed wealthy. I don’t need to borrow much. With a few thousand mid-grade spirit stones, I should be able to buy a mid-grade spiritual artifact."
Kenny Lin wanted to say something but was silenced by her gaze.
Senior Brother Chang also needed to keep some for himself. If he lent everything to them and had an emergency, he would need to borrow from someone else.
"Ah, money makes the world go round," Kenny Lin muttered.
Renshu Chang heard him and felt guilty. Even a respected junior martial uncle was so poor he was starting to lament the lack of money.
"That’s enough," Amalia said with a glare.
Renshu Chang felt that his junior martial uncle’s cold image had been shattered.
However, this kind of junior martial uncle was actually more approachable.
Thinking about it, Renshu Chang was quite pleased, as his usual junior martial uncle would never have said a word to him.
"It’s okay, I’ll lend you another two thousand mid-grade spiritual stones. After all, I won’t need them in a short while." Renshu Chang was excited for a moment.
Kenny Lin smiled proudly at Amalia, feeling that he was too powerful.
In the end, they borrowed eight thousand mid-grade spirit stones from Renshu Chang and, with his help, bought a top-grade spiritual artifact.
Perhaps the attributes were a bit inferior, but it was much stronger than a mid-grade spiritual artifact.
Renshu Chang could be said to have helped them a lot, lending them spirit stones and doing favors.
Amalia remembered this favor and planned to repay him whenever she had the chance.
The next morning, the three set off for the devil battlefield.
Except for the sect master, no one else knew about this matter.
If Amalia could fulfill Senior Tian’s conditions, someone would eventually find out. If not, there would be no need to publicize it.
After leaving the Green Lotus Sect, Renshu Chang took out a small flying boat, threw it on the ground, and instantly turned it into a large flying boat that could accommodate several people.
Seeing the two of them looking like they were eyeing a rich person, Renshu Chang hurriedly explained, "This flying boat isn’t mine. My master knew we were going to the devil battlefield and specifically asked me to bring it out."
"From the Green Lotus Sect to the devil battlefield, if we rely on flying with our swords, it will take two to three months, definitely too late. If we ride the flying boat, it will only take two to three days to arrive, but we need to continuously input spiritual energy midway to ensure the boat has enough power to fly. If you don’t want to do it manually, you can put in spiritual stones."
"Let me and Kenny go. You don’t need to come," Amalia volunteered. She and Kenny Lin absorbed spiritual energy faster.
Renshu Chang had already paid and made an effort. Now his master had let them borrow the flying boat, so he had to do some work.
"That won’t do. Let’s take turns," Renshu Chang suggested. He couldn’t let his junior martial uncle do all the work while he enjoyed himself. That would be too disrespectful.
Amalia didn’t say anything, just glanced at Lin with her eyes.
"You go first, and I’ll take the next shift."
Renshu Chang’s lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but Kenny Lin had already taken his place, thinking that it was better to let his junior sister finish first before he went up.
In the end, as the flying boat approached the devil battlefield, Renshu Chang looked at Amalia, who had taken over the day before, still appearing confident and capable, and he couldn’t help but look bewildered.
