Chapter 472: Investigation (Part 2)
However, knowing Kenny Lin’s character, he might not just surrender quietly.
This could be his chance.
"Nice to see you again," President Luis said with a smile to Amalia, appearing friendly and not at all like someone who came to pick a fight.
Amalia nodded slightly and glanced at Vice President Turrion, asking, "President Luis, are you here to see Kenny Lin?"
President Luis didn’t beat around the bush either, "Indeed, that’s the case. We’re just following orders. We hope you both can give us some face. The longer this remains unresolved, the longer everyone will be restless. Don’t you agree?"
Amalia had a good impression of President Luis, so she was willing to give him that face, even though she had already discussed it with Kenny Lin beforehand.
"What do you say?" Amalia looked at Kenny Lin.
She was willing to give President Luis a face, but she wouldn’t insist on Kenny Lin going with them.
Kenny Lin’s imposing aura didn’t diminish at all because two Tier 1 experts were standing in front of him.
Instead, it became even stronger, and his target was Vice President Turrion.
President Luis clearly felt it, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, thinking it was because of their previous grudges.
Vice President Turrion’s face turned red, out of anger.
"I can go with you, but I have one condition," Kenny Lin said lazily, a sneer playing at the corner of his mouth.
President Luis asked, "What condition?"
"I hope your association can provide an explanation for Vice President Turrion’s order by sending Jacinto Luque to assassinate Amalia."
Kenny Lin’s gaze at Vice President Turrion was both gloomy and cold.
President Luis immediately looked at Vice President Turrion with a cold, scrutinizing gaze.
"What’s going on? Did you send Jacinto Luque to assassinate Amalia?"
Vice President Turrion gritted his teeth.
He had initially planned to take action against them by using Jacinto Luque’s matters first, but Kenny Lin seized the opportunity first, leaving him at a loss.
He had to explain, "President Luis, you can’t just believe his one-sided words. Whatever Jacinto Luque did, it was his own decision."
Although President Luis wasn’t clear about the details, Jacinto Luque’s recent disappearance had already given him a clue.
The possibility that Vice President Turrion wasn’t involved was low, but the outcome might not be favorable for him.
"Don’t worry, I’ll thoroughly investigate Jacinto Luque’s actions and provide you with a satisfactory answer," President Luis promised Kenny Lin and Amalia.
He decided to go back and have someone investigate what Jacinto Luque had done.
He was already tired of Vice President Turrion’s antics.
"I hope President Luis will keep his word," Kenny Lin said meaningfully and then walked away with his head held high.
Amalia almost wanted to pull him back, but then she realized that Kenny Lao Ye couldn’t deceive her.
"Be careful," she couldn’t help but remind him as he reached the door.
Kenny Lin waved his hand confidently without turning back.
Vice President Turrion followed behind with a dark expression, his eyes fixed on Kenny Lin’s back, his gaze flickering.
Another enemy scheming behind their backs was added.
Amalia realized she needed to pick up the pace.
The same afternoon that Kenny Lin was taken away, Amalia also packed up and left the school with Wealth.
According to the information and address provided by her aunt, they found the mercenary market.
The mercenary market was not located in the royal durian capital city
With low entry barriers, all sorts of people from different backgrounds were involved in the mercenary world, making it as bustling as a regular marketplace, unlike the more formal circles in the capital city.
Amalia arrived in less than half an hour.
Unlike the more formal atmosphere in the capital, the air here was filled with a sense of rawness.
The bustling streets resembled an ordinary marketplace.
At the entrance of the street, Amalia saw the person arranged for her by Yolanda Yoder, a young man in his twenties whose eyes were darting around as if searching for someone.
Upon noticing Amalia approaching, the young man’s eyes lit up like light bulbs.
"Are you the Savior?"
Hearing this rather cringe code name, Amalia’s lips twitched slightly.
She internally rejected it, but Yolanda Yoder didn’t give her a chance to protest.
If Yolanda Yoder knew about Amalia’s resentment, she’d definitely exclaim in disbelief.
After all, "Savior" wasn’t a codename of her choosing; it was the rather the cringe choice of the young man standing before her.
When she received the information, she hadn’t paid much attention to the codename issue, so she was unaware of the young man’s somewhat cringeworthy choice.
Seeing her expression, the young man seemed to guess her thoughts and acknowledged the oddity of the codename with a grin.
"I always thought ’Savior’ sounded pretty cool."
"It’s... definitely something," Amalia replied, acknowledging the excessive adolescent flair.
"Really? Looks like we’re kindred spirits then," the young man chuckled happily, "Oh, by the way, I’m Ernesto. Yolanda Yoder already told me your name is Amalia."
Amalia didn’t dwell on it, "Did she tell you why I’m here?"
"She did," Ernesto replied while glancing around warily, "Follow me."
With that, he led the way into a less crowded alley.
Amalia followed him, not worried that Ernesto might be deceiving her.
Her aunt had told her that Ernesto was trustworthy.
Operating on mutual trust, she wouldn’t suspect him unless he did something suspicious.
"You must be curious about how I know Yolanda Yoder," Ernesto began, launching into an unsolicited explanation as they walked.
Amalia wasn’t particularly curious, but she listened politely.
"I grew up without parents, living on the streets, scraping by with inadequate meals," Ernesto recounted, "I nearly got beaten to death once for stealing from a spiritual cultivator. Yolanda Yoder stepped in and saved me. Feeling sorry for me, she helped me find a legitimate job."
He scratched his head, sidling up to Amalia.
"But I didn’t take to that kind of life. I’ve always been around the mercenary market since I was a kid, picking up things here and there. I decided to stick around, sometimes helping Yolanda Yoder gather information."
