Chapter 388: Stonefish (Part 2)
Amalia put away the remaining spiritual beads.
Even though she still had dozens left in her ring, Wealth had already eaten more than ten in just a short while.
Wealth drooped its shoulders and resignedly led the way ahead.
Some of the deep-sea creatures with awakened intelligence were indeed clever, but there were always exceptions.
Having awakened intelligence didn’t mean being smart; just like humans, there were smart ones and foolish ones.
They happened to catch a foolish one, and with a threat, it spilled everything.
Wealth floated in the water, paddling forward with its limbs like a dog.
In the end, because the speed was too slow, Kenny Lin dragged it back and stuffed it back into Amalia’s arms.
"Which direction?"
Wealth immediately pointed in a direction.
With Amalia and Wealth in tow, Kenny Lin, like a sword cloud streaking across the sky, left a long trail of splashes in the water, truly disappearing before the splashes even had a chance to react.
No matter how large the bottom of Kilika Lake was, it didn’t take more than a dozen minutes for the three of them to reach the end.
At the end was just a layer of soil, with no apparent passage.
"Are you sure about this?" Amalia tried to touch it with her hand.
The soil was very hard, and there were no illusions.
Wealth nodded confidently.
Those deep-sea creatures had said so.
As for why they couldn’t find it, it didn’t know, but it was definitely here.
Amalia and Kenny Lin searched around but still found nothing.
"Could we have guessed wrong?" Amalia couldn’t help but think, but he quickly denied it.
They couldn’t have guessed wrong, otherwise, the deep-sea creature that was interrogated by Wealth wouldn’t have said it was here.
"There must be a passage here," Kenny Lin said, he then suddenly moved slightly and lowered his head to look down.
Following his gaze, Amalia saw a huge shadow below.
If they had searched anywhere, it was only this shadow below.
The two swam downwards, finally seeing what this shadow was.
It resembled a huge stone, with a length and width of at least fifty meters.
"Would there be such a large stone here?" Amalia questioned, she reaching out her hands to touch it.
"Be careful," Kenny Lin suddenly grabbed her and disappeared from the spot.
Dozens of thin and long thorns sprouted from the surface of the stone where Amalia was about to touch and they were densely piercing the spot where he had just stood.
If Kenny Lin hadn’t pulled her away, she might have been pierced through her body by now.
Of course, Amalia had defensive measures on the surface, so the thorns might not have pierced through, but it was still extremely dangerous because the thorns were highly poisonous.
Without hitting Amalia, the stone knew it had been exposed and pretended to retract its thorns as if nothing had happened.
"It’s actually a stonefish," Amalia identified it and knew the origin of this stone.
A fish that could mimic a stone.
It is unremarkable in appearance and likes to hide on the seabed or under rocks.
They also like disguising themselves as an inconspicuous stone.
If others didn’t attack it actively, it wouldn’t attack them, but once you accidentally touched them, then don’t blame it for immediately counterattacking.
Those spines were the evidence.
The average person would die instantly upon contact, while a spirit cultivator would die a little slower.
If a Wood-type Spirit Cultivator couldn’t find treatment in time, they would eventually die in agony because the potent poison on the thorns wouldn’t induce unconsciousness but would keep them in excruciating pain until death.
"Ordinary stonefish are only about 30 centimeters long. After the mutation, it reached fifty meters. That’s more than a hundred times the difference in mutation. I wonder if those larger mutated deep-sea creatures also have a hundredfold difference," Kenny Lin said with interest.
"It’s unlikely. If a shark were to undergo such a mutation, wouldn’t it be kilometers long?" Amalia hadn’t seen such large sharks in marine biology books.
"The ocean is a mysterious place. Just because we haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist," Kenny Lin said mysteriously.
Amalia nodded, "You have a point. But let’s not dwell on that. How do we deal with this stonefish?"
She just touching it and it had caused a heap of thorns to spring up.
If they were to drive it away, wouldn’t it pursue them to the ends of the earth?
"I’ll handle it. You find a place to hide. After I lure it away, I’ll come back for you," Kenny Lin suggested.
Amalia knew that was their only option, so she handed over Wealth to him, "Take your son with you. If you get lost, with him, you can find your way back faster."
Kenny Lin didn’t think he would get lost, but he agreed nonetheless.
If he hadn’t agreed, Amalia would have worried.
Just thinking about it made him feel delighted.
He felt he liked his girlfriend even more now.
"Don’t worry, wife. I’ll come and find you soon. I’m off."
Seeing his gallant departure, Amalia decided not to nitpick with him too much.
It was just taking advantage of a small benefit anyway.
Amalia quickly found a hiding spot.
Due to the angle, she didn’t see how Kenny Lin provoked the stonefish, but she noticed there’s a sudden violent waves surging around her.
The massive body of the stonefish finally stopped pretending and moving angrily.
Its disguised coloration reverted to its original hues.
Its round, large eyes, resembling those on a stone, suddenly opened, rolling like marbles.
As it locked onto its prey, it immediately gave chase after Kenny Lin.
Its enormous body was not clumsy at all.
It was fast, but Kenny Lin was even more faster.
This wasn’t even his fastest speed.
To lure the stonefish, he deliberately dangled himself as bait.
When the waters calmed down, Amalia could no longer see Kenny Lin or the stonefish.
