Chapter 173: Artifact Refining College Exams (Part 1)

The next day, before the class bell rang, Amalia showed up in the classroom, and giving Professor Frans some respect.

Surprisingly, everyone arrived early today, and many prime seats with a good view were already taken.

In the front row, the girl from yesterday suddenly stood up, and vigorously waving her hand towards her whuch is impossible to miss.

Amalia then approached the girl.

"Today’s class is quite important. So, everyone came early, and I saved you a seat. Come sit next to me," the girl said cheerfully.

Although it’s a little bit presumptuous, Amalia accepted it in silence; after all, she didn’t want to reject a friendly gesture.

"I’m Isabella Xiao. I know you’re Amalia. I’ve heard a lot about your victories over Sebastian Caceres and Yannis Yoder. Many people are talking about it. I watched your match with Yannis Yoder. You’re really amazing; you don’t seem like an artificer," Isabella Xiao said.

Isabella Xiao seemed even more friendly than Amalia had anticipated, she was chatting non stop like a chirping sparrow from ten minutes before class until Professor Frans entered the room.

Throughout the conversation, Amalia mostly responded with "Hmm" and "Yeah." But, her aloof attitude didn’t dampen Isabella Xiao’s enthusiasm.

"You’re in luck today. Professor Frans is going to teach us artefact refining. He’s a master-level figure, which is quite rare. If he hadn’t already accepted a direct students, many would have wanted to study under him," Isabella Xiao whispered to Amalia when Professor Frans called attendance.

Amalia became instantly interested when she heard this.

Despite being at the school for so long, she hadn’t had the chance to witness a school instructor practicing artefact refining with her own eyes.

"Isn’t Professor Frans supposed to teach us artefact refining?" Amalia inquired.

Isabella Xiao saw her reaction and she knew that she had hit the right topic.

She then chuckled, "Because Professor Frans rarely gets directly involved. So, he just lets students to do it by themselves and then explains it from the sidelines."

Amalia nodded, and deciding to focus more during the class.

Isabella Xiao later shared with her many things about Professor Frans, such as the two esteemed artificers at Heavenly Path University.

One of them is Dean Kirilova, while the other is Professor Frans.

Given Professor Frans’s qualifications, he could have long been become the vice dean.

However, he never pursued it because he felt it was useless.

His status wouldn’t change due to a mere title.

Senior Michael Wang is one of the few direct students that Professor Frans has taken under his wing over the years.

"Professor Frans is very particular about people. He doesn’t like students without personality. I think you, Amalia, have a good chance," Isabella Xiao said with a smile.

"Despite Professor Frans being harsh when scolding, the more he scolds someone, the more he likes them."

"I don’t have a masochistic tendency," Amalia replied.

Isabella Xiao chuckled, "You’re really funny, but I believe you can do well."

"Okay," Amalia nodded, and then glancing at Professor Frans, who had just put down the attendance register.

"Let’s start the class."

Isabella Xiao reluctantly ended the conversation.

The class with Professor Frans was indeed as Isabella Xiao had described.

However, this time, he called someone up to assist him—a position that unfortunately fell upon Amalia, who was thoroughly singled out.

Amalia had no complaints; being able to observe Professor Frans’s artifact refining up close was something other students wished for but didn’t have the privilege to experience.

The other students felt a mix of envy and relief.

They were relieved because only those singled out by Professor Frans had this honor, yet most of the time, being singled out might not be a good thing.

While refining the artifact, Professor Frans didn’t speak much or explaining the process.

His intense focus was almost frightening to watch.

As a master-level artificer with extensive experience, he effortlessly solved many problems that had troubled students for a long time.

It wasn’t until Professor Frans completed shaping the artifact that everyone realized only a little over half an hour had passed.

"It’s no wonder he’s a master-level artificer. While others would take at least an hour, he only needs half the time; that’s the result of his experience and skill."

"Alright, tell me, what did you all observe? Any thoughts after watching?" As Amalia returned to her seat, Professor Frans then asked the question to the whole class.

"Seeing Professor Frans refining artifacts up close must have been exciting, right?" Isabella Xiao asked Amalia sneakily upon her return.

Amalia nodded, and acknowledging her significant gains.

The books within the Soltice Ring were merely texts; they could outline procedures, but the understanding depended on personal comprehension.

Observing Professor Frans refining artifacts allowed her to witness the entire process firsthand, and clearly understanding her approach to certain details.

It was immensely helpful.

If Professor Frans taught like this every day, she would gladly attend daily.

However, considering Isabella Xiao’s words, Amalia realized that Professor Frans probably wouldn’t demonstrate artifact refining for the class frequently throughout the semester.

"So, what’s your gains from observing?" Isabella Xiao’s eyes gleamed.

"I still have much to learn," Amalia replied.

Isabella Xiao nudged her, "I meant specifics. Saying ’I still have much to learn’ seems like you’re brushing me off. Everyone in their first year needs to learn. Just share some details with me."

"It’s hard to explain specifics. I don’t know your exact situation," Amalia said earnestly.

Offering casual advice to peers might come off as showing off.

Seeing Amalia’s reluctance, Isabella Xiao sighed, "Okay."

"What are they murmuring about over there, unable to keep quiet? Stand up and share if you have so much to say!" Professor Frans’s distinctive booming voice echoed towards their direction.

Isabella Xiao immediately quieted down.

Professor Frans’s gaze remained fixed on her, "What are you staring at? I’m talking about you, Isabella Xiao!"

Isabella Xiao turned pale.

If she had known, she wouldn’t have remained silent, she then signaling Amalia for help as she stood up.
